We got better once Ziebell was off the field.

Thomas was great in the last. Tarrant and Walker were brilliant down back and saved us a lot.

Re Ziebell... I don’t think it’s a coincidence this has happened already twice this year. He looks finished. Very limited footballer at the moment.

We were in front for 13mins out of 103 v Saints, 58 of 111 v GWS, 26 of 105 against the Swans, 11 of 106 tonight. That 25% time-in front. You keep playing games on the back foot then you better be prepared to lose.

In first quarters we're 1-3 with a % of 72.9
In second quarters we're 1-3 with a % of 60.6
In third quarters we're 2-2 with a % of 95.8
In final quarters we're 4-0 with a % of 231.7

Kicking red time goals in the last 7 - 10 minutes of the 4th quarter making the scores closer at the final siren doesn't count in my book.

i watch some of the game this morning and decided to go back to bed after a while. i know a sinking ship when i see one.

It sunk up until the last 10 minutes

I'm trying to figure out how, regardless of how the ball was delivered to him, a bloke could cover that much ground and only get the ball in his hands 3 times. You'd reckon it would fall into his hands by luck more than that. Must be running to where the ball isn't a lot.

Amazing how despite only playing 5 minutes of footy, we only lost by 4 points. Imagine if we played 4 quarters for once this century!

Hawthorn also played their A game. They're not much better than that. We, on the other hand, played very average footy for 70% of that match.

Clarkson was ultimately BOG. His questionable strategy paid off due to complicit umpiring.

It's really noticeable and disruptive when you have a poorly umpired game.
We've had a good run up until this game.

The Hawks just too experienced in their set ups and spread. They suffocated us and applied too much pressure. This is something Shaw will learn to counteract with experience.
I like how he backs our players to stand up and believes they can compete with the best of them
But under normal circumstances with longer quarters , it would have been a blow out .

The Hawks were well drilled in holding up the ball when it was our mark or free. And pushed the boundaries a bit with the man on the mark.

Criticism of the forward line unjustified. **** me the ball didn't even get in there , let alone delivered well.

Some harsh criticisms of our players.

We miss Cunnington around the stoppages. Even though suprisingly we won the clearances.

Skills, well our disposal efficiency was better then Hawthorns.

We lost the tackle count and 1% ers was almost half that off Hawthorns.

The smothers and non clean hands were painful beyond belief.

Smash Curtis for taking that shot, but at least the kid had all the confidence to want the moment. Brown's kicking had been poor and would likely missed but even worse.

There is a huge opportunity this year.

We are capable now.

They maintained their pressure and ours dropped. This was definitely a missed opportunity, as was last week.

A team is going to win the flag this year playing 3/4s of real football.

There will not be an opportunity like this to jag one early in this stage of development again.

I've always thought that an ordinary player can't play 200 games at this level. I'm holding to that although Atley has me doubting myself. Can't actually think of anything he brings to the team that can't be done by anyone else. Has never had a "break out " game, can't recall any high B&F finishes and doesn't appear to be an onfield general. 201 games of 'meh'. If JMac can be dropped (and I'm fine with that) then surely Atley is on thin ice - just as he has been for the past 5 years.

Why the heck everytime Tazza or Walker take a mark, they slow it down, and go back and then go sideways 15m to an unmanned McDonald or Pittard or Marley ?

And then the recipient of the pass goes back and slows it down again ?

Meanwhile the Hawthorn defence are setting up and double teaming Brown and getting ready for when we eventually do go forward.

We didnt play on enough....We didnt take risks....We played into their hands....

It was sad to watch. It was frustrating to watch.

Fun fact. After the first four games, North have only been in front 24% of the time. 2-2 is , probably, a pretty respectable result. Jay Clarke has labelled us “brave” in the HS.

yep, when it happens it takes a player from both teams away from the contest, and this has to be a good thing. Just let it go on.

Their ability to smother and our inability to take a mark was a huge issue. Sure our kicking wasnt perfect but boy did we drop some easy marks.

Shaw has stated several times defence is the number one priority.

First we got out hunted and then outplayed. When we righted the ship in those departments we got out-coached. Then it all clicked and we almost stole it.

There are some really good building blocks there and some luck with injury will help us but we are spluttering a bit. We don't have the quality to over possess the ball and miss Cunnington's ability to release from the contest to a bloke on the move, allowing for quick F50 entries.

Overall, I think our 2 Z’s came up short yesterday. That exacerbated the absence of Cunnington and Larkey and, ultimately, cost us the game. From the beginning of the season, the expectation was for us to physically hurt the opposition. Zurhaar, Ziebell & Jed are in the forefront of that. Yesterday, only Jed fulfilled his role. Everything else stems from that, in my view.
