Great win. We were excellent in the first quarter and a half and should have been 40 or 50 points up at that stage. We struggled after that but our ability to withstand Essendon's constant attacks into our under siege defence was great. They're an incredibly fast team, so that was always a worry heading into the match but we absorbed it well.

Fantastic game by our captain. He was involved in everything and a worthy winner of the medal today. Disgraceful by the Essendon supporters to boo him especially in a moment when he was thanking the crowd and paying tribute to the significance of the day.

Impressive return game for Hoskin-Elliott. I was worried about his fitness as he wasn't match hardened, but he held up well and made the absence of Elliott easier to adjust to. He's clearly a best 22 player when fit.

Starting to become a bit worried about Beams. I've wondered whether we should play him as a half forward flanker rather than through the middle. He doesn't win many clearances and he's not a great two way runner either. He's a very handy player and will provide a solid contribution to the team, but I don't think he's greatly enhanced our team from last year. It will be interesting to see how he progresses as he begins his adjustment to the team.

Losing the clearances on a regular basis has become a pressing concern for mine. I don't know what the story is with him, but I think we're missing Sier more than we realise and he would go some way to addressing this problem.

Overall, it's a very good sign that we're grinding out victories even if we haven't played our best football yet. It's a sign of a strong football team. We're building nicely, but we've got plenty left to give.

At the end of the day, they’re only so ropeable about umpiring because they were competitive for most of the game and still lost. Easy to forget about the number of times Shiel kicked it straight to one of our players or how pathetic they were kicking into the corridor.

A lot of contributing factors to their loss, but the simplest and most satisfactory approach is to blame someone else.

At the moment I'd take brown over Thomas and levi is useless unless he is tagging someone. Almost Levi's worse game for us today and JT has looked off the pace so far this season.

I think Brown showed lots today and last week, love the way he plays and takes it on.
Callum cant kick though, at least Thomas can finish.

Worsfold can **** right off, his belated "I assume" done nothing to hid that he was alluding to Pendlebury somehow being deserving of that treatment. As bad as their disgraceful fans.
We lost a grand final because of a dubious decision and I don't recall Pie fans booing the Eagles during their medal presentation.

Worsfold is a two faced prick.

Always comes across as squeaky clean, but this is the same man who was coaching a team that was shitfaced on illcit drugs and apparently didn't realise it. Ironic that as a chemist by trade, he ended up joining the drug cheats.

Spot on Dave. In the heat of the game everyone has frustrations but at that stage, on that stage, it was extremely poor by a majority of supporters.

I am so over umpires inconsistency on the holding the ball/incorrect disposal rule. Pay it every time, I don't care how many free kicks there are in a game.

Drives me mad, no wonder players stop expecting a free to be paid.
Today twice Essendon done us cold, players on both teams stopped and crisp even stood the mark haha. But some how they had the audacity to call play on. If that happened in a final, no matter what team, there'd be a f**kin riot.

I have never in my life seen both teams totally stop...thinking it’s a free kick with the ump calling to play on...bizarre

Have seen it with marks etc but free kicks? Never.

Luckily De Goey did the right thing and gave the ball to the bombers

Probably because it was almost the 2 worst non paid freekicks in history. I mean bloody hell we held onto it to not give away a 50 and had a player standing the mark too!

Levi wasn't great today but I tell you what, his attack on the ball to create the turn over off Danihers ambitious corridor switch, then the repeat effort to win it again, lead to a turn over goal that just about sealed it for us. One of the best pieces of play for the day.

If you are going to watch the replay, it happened so many times. Player is tackled, is spun right around, ball falls loose (not making any attempt), play on. Then player barely has possession, is tackled, free kick. I have no idea what instructions umpires are under but for goodness sake, some consistency.

That episode you refer to was so strange. Really frustrates me.

Said a few weeks ago concerned about Beams. Top player but has he added much? Time will tell. Better than Mayne’s first couple of years and now look at what he adds. Though what do you think of Beams return vs Wells when he’s been on the park?

What went wrong for us in the centre clearances today? We got absolutely mauled in there after half time. I thought Beams was largely ineffective and that's a big concern. Adams and Treloar were off their best too. Between that and a failure to hit an average set shot conversion rate, we really let Essendon back in. If we can't sort out the centre clearances I don't reckon we'll take the next step as a team.

Was a good game regardless. Good to see we can match it with a contender.

Soured a little during pendles presentation though, not proud of that.
