Levi wasn't great today but I tell you what, his attack on the ball to create the turn over off Danihers ambitious corridor switch, then the repeat effort to win it again, lead to a turn over goal that just about sealed it for us. One of the best pieces of play for the day.
Funny thing was i couldn't wait to get Greenwood in for his hardness to help out our midfield but f**k me ball in hand he looks like Kepler Bradley out there. I love his attack on the footy but if he isn't tagging i don't see what role he has to offer that someone else can't do better.

Yeah agree. He played defence today and his field kicking, unsurprisingly, was heart in mouth stuff.

Not when we were up by 30. Bombers got a few gifts in that 2nd quarter to close the gap and give them belief.
I actually blamed our turnovers and poor decisions tbh. At one stage 48 points of their 56 was from turnovers. I who am usually ridiculous biased couldn't believe some of the calls today, where were these f**kin calls in the grand final when we needed it most. smh.

When he went backwards 20 metres before kicking it and losing 50metres of terrority or when he looped a potentially dangerous 20m handball to grundy in the back pocket was vintage Greenwood, but hard to hate the man with how verocious his attack on the footy is. It's definitely a love hate relationship.

What went wrong for us in the centre clearances today? We got absolutely mauled in there after half time. I thought Beams was largely ineffective and that's a big concern. Adams and Treloar were off their best too. Between that and a failure to hit an average set shot conversion rate, we really let Essendon back in. If we can't sort out the centre clearances I don't reckon we'll take the next step as a team.
More so is the concern of 1st quarter blitz, then 2 quarters of OPPO control before deadlocked last quarter. A theme in most games this year and a few last year notably vs WC.

When they adjust we struggle to get the game back on our terms, we also seem to stop all run and dare.
Top 5 players late in 3rd quarter for meters ran per minute were all Essendon not a great stat as to our workrate.

I think it is premature that people are calling for Sidey to be dropped because his input is down on last year. However, lets keep in mind that he played centre/rover last year and this year he has been predominantly half forward and wing.

2018 Average Stats per game for first 6 rounds
38.6 possessions; 11.8 cont poss; 74.5% DE; 4.3 mks; 4 tackles; 4 I50's; 5.3 clearances; 2.5 centre clearances; 3 stoppages; 1.5 RB50's; 1 goal per game

2019 Average Stats per game for first 6 rounds
24.5 possessions; 7 cont poss; 77.5% DE; 6 mks; 2.3 tackles; 3.8 I50's; 1.6 clearances; 0.5 centre clearances; 1.1 stoppages; 2 RB50's; 0.33 goal per game

Move him back into the midfield (+ he runs both ways) and push Beams to the wing/half forward

While the coaches will examine the game in fine detail to digest what went right and wrong and the media scribes will no doubt focus on the umpiring decisions for a simple fella like myself the key moments that allowed Essendon back into the game was the poor entry inside our forward 50 during the second quarter that limited our ability to capitalise on our dominance. We simply bombed the ball long and high all to often when we needed to lower our eyes.

This inability to take our pound of flesh off Essendon during the second quarter was only compounded when we fell into our old habit of not running out quarters and allowed red time goals. Ouch!

Not surprisingly our biggest issue of the day was of course our set shot goal kicking.

A lot might have changed over the decades in football but one thing that will always remain the same is that you need to take your chances more often than not in front of goal and ending the day with more goals than behinds showing on the scoreboard is always more advantageous.

Missing set shots can not only rob a team of valuable momentum that is often translated into a run of goals that win games it can also hand it straight back to the opposition if they can reply with a goal of their own in a timely manner.

The scoreboard will say if we kick a point and the opposition kick a goal it will equate to a negative 5 point differential.

If you think it through a little further though if you have the opportunity to extend let's say an 24pt lead to 30pts, miss and the opposition then score a goal what could have been a 5 goal buffer is suddenly little more than 3 goals. That's an 11pt turnaround.

Repeat that outcome enough times in succession like today and what could have been game over is suddenly game in the balance and the opposition have gained the momentum.

I have never in my life seen both teams totally stop...thinking it’s a free kick with the ump calling to play on...bizarre

Have seen it with marks etc but free kicks? Never.
The one where he handballed on our f50 line after being tackled to the ground, typically they would pay holding the ball but technically he disposes of it. It's one of those borderline calls.

For those saying the booing was not for Pendlebury, come off it. We can all expect a boo, and the way Essendon lost I understand the frustration, but when Pendlebury came up to speak, was booed as any player might be, he paused and waited for the boos to subside. Alas, they did not but they become more vociferous. Clearly aimed at Pendlebury.

I am sick of being criticised for calling out bullshit behaviour under the false pretense of political correctness or free speech. It was deplorable.

Pendlebury has likely achieved more in his life than each of those that booed him, particularly the second time.

I think there were bad calls both ways. It went their way in the first half, ours in the 2nd with a few dodgy ones in their favour too In the last q.

Sure we made mistakes but there was also a few important free kicks that fell their way in the 2nd.

If we were to be completely honest they didn't pay holding the ball against either side today too often but luckily for us it was Essendon more often than not on the bad side of decisions involving holding the ball.

Been Happening in nearly every game this year that we look terrible in the Clearances. Grundy has to do the work sometimes by himself.

We looked way better then De Goey goes in there

A surprising amount of Collingwood fans remained to watch the grand final presentation, none around me booed Shuey or any of his teammates as they were awarded their premiership medallions.

There's a time and place for everything, booing Pendlebury as he was getting the ANZAC medal isn't one of them.
This was my thought exactly. There was even a missed free kick to lose a Grand Final. No one booed. I just watched the ANZAC Day replay and they were within 3 points after a dodgy free kick to Bagley which even the commentators were saying should not have been one. Plenty of missed free kicks all day. On the commentary, Bruce and BT are practically barracking when Essendon goes forward. Leigh Matthews seems most balanced. They comment on every miss on free kicks for Essendon and don’t seem to notice the Collingwood ones, with one or two exceptions. On the game, kick straight and it’s a clear win. We kept them in it. Take the 4 points and move on.

BOO HOO. ooops.

So what if Pendlebury was booed? If I'm not wrong we booed Dom Sheed when he collected his GF medal? Who cares. It's a fans game. We should be allowed to show emotion as long as it does not cross the line. In cricket, some of the bigger Indian players like Tendulkar/Dhoni have their houses stoned by fans after they lose a game. Here we are worrying about some noise being made in the crowd. Booing is just part of the theatre. PC society doing their best work here.

Pendles is a champion of the game and our club. Absolutely loved his game today on such a special day. Don't let this PC controversy take from that.

Now can we talk about that vintage Pendles sidestep to get onto his left in the first half?

he's got a point, I'd rather drink detergent than have all my home games at shitihad and tassie
Picure this, north playing saints, it's a monster crowd of 19500 at Marvel, late in the last, big gangly Brown flops for a free and gets it. He lines up and slots the goal and the 9000 north fans erupt in unison with KANGA KANGA KANGA ROO ROO ROO, it almost blows the roof off!

Now if that doesn't warm the cockles of your heart nothing ever will.
