Hawthorn are probably the most protected club in terms of umpiring, they get one bad game and they're up in arms
That is simply and completely BESIDE the point dog.

Watch the footage without prejudice and the evidence is undeniable.

Tight games boost ratings.

The AFL have their snouts in the media trough whilst the game is being reamed for media profits.

Having a look at the bombers review thread basically 95% of them are blaming the umpires, which is poor, no mention of the rubbish hold against Langdon on Baguley that resulted in a direct goal.
And McDonald-Tippenwutti threw then ball to Daniher for his last quarter goal. So that's both of their last quarter goals gifted by the umpires.

As for the booing, they were definitely booing Pendles. The umpires we long off the ground by that stage and they had already booed them off. They started up again as soon as Pendles' name was called out.

Can you imaging the fallout if Daniher had won it and we did that.

They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

I just watched the last qtr and there were quite a number of questionable/non calls, (for and against both teams) as everyone has mentioned.
However, there's a bigger, (dare I say smaller) scandle that hasn't been addressed.
Who the hell shrunk Callum Brown's jumper??!!

If I am reading this right, your proposition is that AFL umpires have been directed to award free kicks (or not award clear ones) to teams in deficit in order to manufacture close finishes? And this is an edict issued across all, what 40 or so AFL field umpires?

I don't know why people don't just admit we got a dream run yesterday. I took great delight at work saying I agree we got very well looked after by the umpires. In fact in bordered on bias towards us it was that good. The second goal Essendon got was a gift but we had too many to mention.

It was an epic meltdown on their part, I was cheesed off at the shocking behaviour immediately post game but looking back on it now, hilarious. Was like watching 20,000 toddlers simultaneously having a tantrum in the lolly aisle at the supermarket when mummy said no to buying a chocolate bar.

Pies got the win, no fairytale ending for the Bombers. Too bad, so sad. The chant at the end to drown out the booing flogs was brilliant, best response.
Exactly what I was thinking!

When we all started chanting to drown out the booing, it was a great feeling of Collingwood solidarity!
I had been so stressed during the match, so it was a wonderful outlet of relief.

Finally .... how these morons think they were stuffed by the umpires is beyond me. It’s not the free kick tally that matters it’s the incorrect ones and missed ones.

Stringer and Heppel literally drop the ball cold atleast 4 times each

Is incorrect disposal still a free kick ? That’s a genuine question cos maybe I’ve missed a rule change somewhere.

Look i'm not going to touch on the umpiring, this is your thread. You guys were in front the whole day, when that happens, the time deserves to win. It was a cracking game though and I enjoyed it very much.
Feel free to touch on the umpiring if you want.

I'm not saying they didn't make poor decisions. They did. All day. AMT was taken high twice which was let go, Brodie Grundy was called for push in the back 2 or 3 times and on every single occasion never once landed in anyone's back lol. Collingwood and Essendon forwards were being blocked and bumped off the ball numerous times which were consistently let go.

But for so may to focus one one or two decisions late in the game simply because they were late in the game completely ignores everything that led to those moments. Had it been a pretty close game all day with Essendon equally deserving of a win, I could see more of an argument for the umpiring decisions, but given our first half dominance which we were unable to capitalise on, I struggle to accept umpiring decisions that were consistent with most of what had gone before it being the issue seems off to me.

It's similar (but not the same) as the Richmond supporters who complained about the free kick count in Round 2 while COMPLETELY ignoring our utter dominance of general play. If the opposition has like 70% of possession and then you don't lay any tackles when you don't have the ball, how can you expect free kicks (talking about Richmond here)?

I honestly didn't think the Richmond game had too many bad calls. We got a couple of rough decisions, but at the end of the day, you lead for 99.95% of the game (it took a few minutes for you to score) and when that happens, well, you can't blame the umps

I love a good boo. Dangerfield, Gunston, etc have all copped it from our fans in recent years.

Booing the presentation is vastly different though. Firstly the disrespect to the RSL representative and then to boo a classy and fair player like Pendles (one of my favourite non-AFC players) was disgusting.

Absolutely staggered no one mentioned that throw. Like, their only 2 goals for the quarter were a direct result of incorrect umpiring calls (or non-calls) and yet they want to complain about a correct push in the back and a correct non-call for holding the ball?

F*king spare me. Stephenson was already being tackled before he even had proper control of the ball, and made EVERY effort to get rid of it despite that. There is no scenario where a free like that ever gets paid outside the rarest of exceptions and no way was an umpire going to pay that at that stage of the game.

Mind you, that completely ignores that Essendon supporters somehow assume that even if they go that free kick, they would have taken the ball down and kicked a goal even though we had already repelled numerous attacks combined with them turning it over. As we said, their only 2 goals were a result of poor umpiring so why do they assume they would have kicked any more goals for the rest of the game?

The commentators on TV were no better. Darcy Moore gets the ball, immediately tries to kick, gets knocked off the ball drop and they’re all screeching that it’s holding the ball.

There was no prior opportunity, and he immediately sought to dispose of it, so it simply can’t be holding the ball. It’s either incorrect disposal or play on. How many people would have to be called for getting dragged off their kick? Hundreds?

Couldn’t agree more. I think people are definitely missing the Stephenson one... he was being held as he scooped up the ball, he never could have disposed of it, so the fact that he got boot to ball was probably beneficial to the bombers, because he could have safely held it in under the rules.

Shpeshal Ed they went over at least ten frees from yesterday's game on SEN this morning and we got the benefit of 90% of them. We got a great run with only the Guelfi goal being un called for according to the ex umpire on SEN this morning.

The Richmond v Collingwood game showed how umpires can win a game for a side. The AFL couldn't have Collingwood zip from 2 coming into the West Coast game and the umpires made sure we the got the points. Thanks gents.

A quick look at the post history of someone who joined after we demolished the Tigers in round 2.... not a positive word said about the Pies.

Even though there is some truth to what you say about us getting the rub of the green (albeit not to the extent you’re suggesting), my guess is this is a troll account.

Unfortunately I have family who are scum bandwagoners, apparently McDonald-Tippenwutti should have got a heap of frees for being tackled high. Yeah, he was taken high on occasion, but that was due to him trying to draw the free by shrugging and ducking under the tackler.

Only a few players in comp can draw frees in such a manner; McDonald-Tippenwutti isn’t one of them and they’ve also criticised Selwood for doing the same.
