I dont know but i have been having arguments on it on the main board.
The consensus seems to be that umpires have added a prior opportunity ruling to it like with htb rule (umps have said it in response to players asking for it was one in our game a few rounds ago said over mic). But no one can find that as rule in laws of the game.

People seem to confuse the prior in holding the ball rule with an incorrect disposal rule. Prior on incorrect does not exist but the umps have been using as a reason not to apply the rule.

Yeah I find it frustrating and I think people are getting away with it , for example yesterday stringer takes possession with momentum is tackled just drops the ball and it’s play on , I believe they are getting away with dropping it being adjudicated as knocked out in contest but that isn’t what happened in the examples I’m speaking of. I think one of stringers then resulted in an Essendon goal.

I think the frustration is enhanced when Sidebottom gets called holding the ball but managed to get a terrible kick away.

Don't think Dropping the Ball is even a Rule anymore as I have seen it plenty of times and never called

Yep you are spot on they rarely if ever pay it, despite it happening very regularly in games.

That’s what I’m asking I’m genuinely interested hopefully one of the journalists gets onto it. I’d love to know.

It would severely impact heppel a game though :/

Not sure you've thought this through. Won't the lack of coverage diminish the production of belly button lint?

He wont be wearing his match top all the time though so there should be plenty left to harvest.

I can then fashion a kewpie doll from his lint and when he next misses a soda from 30 out dip the doll into a vat of distilled Essendon supporter tears which is the most salty substance known to man and hook up a car battery. That should encourage him.

Of course i might be arrested for assalt and battery but thats a risk im prepared to take.

The PC Crowd give me the Shits
That's why we need blokes like you Dave, to remove them from their delusion, and show them that the world isn't a fantasy fairy land, where nobody can be offended. Preach it brother.

Pendlebury has played 283 games, won 5 B&Fs, made the All-Australian team 5 times, won 3 ANZAC Day medals, played in a premiership and won a Norm Smith.

...and in all that time, Essendon haven't won a final.
The Power fans are here early!! Welcome brother, and fantastic stat :thumbsu:

There's something sinister about harvesting a man's lint and then using it against him as an instrument of torture. The war against ponies has warped you, Horse, the moral compass has slipped from your saddle bag.

The horror.

The horror.

Were Essendon ever in front? No? So they were robbed of being second all day?

Second is a promotion for Essendon. They deserve to be third in a two horse race.

Well, I’m watching the game again now with a cool head and keeping a specific eye on the umpiring and I have to agree with Swanny - just finished watching the 1st quarter and umpiring ok so far, a couple of missed HTB calls on Ess, specifically Stringer. Nothing to complain about but noticed the flogs were up and about booing already during the 1st quarter.

They have a lot of pools in Brisbane, but I'd surmise as of last Thursday, very few Bears. Off to the snow with the Dees fans.

What has this board become with all the trolls? WordPress? Reddit? Come on mods!

And who the heck is AdamH? Streuth. Not our fault saints haven't won a flag in fifty years. Maybe milney should have chased the Hayes rain maker!

End of the day the Pies were to good over 4 quarters.

We started poorly, gave up a 33 point head start and failed to reel it in. Our blokes haven’t been in that situation often, big stage close game, and it showed with our lack of composure late.

Hopefully we learn the lesson moving forward.

In the last few minutes, there were some game killing skill executions from your guys, but to be honest I thought our composure was worse resulting in rushed, poor decisions. Treloar always worries me in close finishes, just wants to lead the team to victory so urgently that he just starts to hack the ball forward in blind hope or tries to do too much and looks more likely to lead us to defeat.

But dropping the ball is holding the ball.

By rule, its holding the ball due to incorrect disposal. You said it yourself ball drop. Unless you dig deeper into the rules where it gets very grey.

I was having this discussion with my old man before the game (funny that). About how there is a general confusion around holding the ball with people getting the many variants of the rule confused. Regardless of if you had prior opportunity or not. You did not dispose of the ball correctly by dropping it, throwing it, falling out whatever.

But to that point, the rules have too many ways of when umpires shall allow play to continue regarding certain potential holding the ball calls. Its open to personal opinion of the rules too much.

Being at the ground, i can feel the frustration towards the officials. And i'll be honest i booed them off the ground, but then I left. I didn't stay for what happened afterwards because I had a plane to catch. But it seems a little blown out of proportion by the media as usual.

There was a lot of general anger. So much so that by god if it was the queen that made a speech after the game instead of the medal presentation we would of booed her probably. People needed to vent. They pay the money to attend the game, they should be allowed to do what they want, including boo providing it doesn't breach laws that we abide by in day to day life. (discrimination, violence etc).

This notion of people were booing pendles needs to stop, it was far from the case. Nothing more then a headline for the blood sucking media.

We vented, Collingwood still won, we all went home and will be back again next year to do it all over again, and hopefully have another classic.

I am happy we managed to be competitive on the day. I was worried before the game we wouldn't be and you would kill us. Boy was I more worried at QT.

Same time next year :thumbsu:
NOT venting.

Umpires had been booed off the field minutes before.

The ONLY target on the ground was Pendles.

It was a simple and direct mass insult to one of the fairest players ever to play the game.

STOP SPINNING and piss off.

Wasn't so much the skill but 2 minutes left and we rushed everything. Just needed to slow down and assess the situation better.

The booing has distracted us from a very entertaining game that had some valuable lessons.
Callum Brown is on the improve. He is likely to make it.
Phillips should have his detractors silenced by now.
Two goals as a small forward means Thomas did his job, but the arrogant checkside (successful) and the attempts to run around or away from a very fast opponent should penetrate his consciousness. He is not as good as he thinks he is.
Cox is now an established forward pocket and change ruck. It is no longer potential.
Varcoe may not get much of the ball, but he is enormously valuable.
Mihocek is now an established key forward who demands the constant attention of his defender. He gets a lot of the ball if not respected, and drags a good defender with him if he is.
Howe is an outstanding defender, and Moore looks it too. Roughead is solid.
Our midfield has work to do, particularly in the centre square.
Grundy is beyond price.
De Goey is a good full forward, despite his set shot problems.
Stephenson is working back into the form of last year, after a first few weeks where he seemed to believe his own publicity.
Crisp and Langdon, with support from Maynard are very hard to score against, and they look to attack as well.
Hoskin-Elliott is very valuable.

The umpires were awful. They cost us a several of goals, and gave Essendon several. As luck would have it, we didn't goal from the errors in our favour, while Essendon did, but the bad decisions on marks ( Langdon was the worst) cost us, while the around the necks not paid to Tipinwoudi (is this how you spell it?) cost them. The trend in holding the ball decisions is good, but too many are missed, and there sis a subjectivity in the decisions that seems to favour some players over others. The more skilled players seem to get less time (think Treloar and Sidebottom) while the bullockers (think Caddy or Stringer) get more.
The crackdown on players being thumped seems to have been closed out by the chorus from the media.
There have been many comments as if this was an easy game and we should have thrashed them It wasn't. They are very hard and very fast. We had chances to blow them away, but they pressured us out of them. We had to fight tooth and nail for the win, and it was a very meritorious one. At teh end of the game, WE were pressing for another score, not them.

So what does that make mules? Zorses? Or zedonkeys? Asking for a curious friend.
The old, I’m asking for a friend trick.

We don’t judge here at our board.

Unless it’s ponies, then we judge.
Big time.
