Having read this thread I agree that a new sub-board will lower activity on such threads.
I also agree that AFL topics can really sidetrack the thread at times which can lead to people skipping a few pages and potentially missing other good posts.

So I believe the status quo is good, then have an AFL thread as well.

I don't think it works too badly as is, though creating a specific AFL-specific thread, as glenferry23 suggested, is a pretty good idea as well.

But I don't think you need to complicate things by trying to artificially shoehorn particular discussions by creating multiple threads for every separate topic, like movies/TV shows, music, AFL, other sports etc.

Yes that would seem to over cook things by having multiple threads for specific categories. And then creates another problem in terms of then overlapping with other sub forums on this site.

It seems that 2 main things dominate the Off Topic thread - AFL, and then everything else. I like the idea of a specific AFL thread which then removes the congestion from the Off Topic thread.

Perhaps that's all that's needed for now. Because where would one draw the line in terms of creating additional threads?

Crickets just so ******* boring, like baseball on valium.
See most of my cricketer friends find Soccer to be the same. Which is why I can watch both. Mellow way to spend a few hours.

I only like test matches. 20/20 and ODI can GAGF.

Beers, BBQ and cricket in summer.....perfect.
Agree. Test match drinking full strength in the Members stand. Nothing better. The other two are meh.

i dont get that with soccer, obviously its not high scoring but its not stop start either. Cricket and Baseball are similar in that regard. But i did use to like cricket when i was younger but i cant take more than a couple of overs nowadays.

Please leave straya

im not much of a yobbo unfortunately:D

You got that the wrong way around. Have you watched baseball? It's basically cricket without variety. It's so dull they only give the batter a few goes before it's someone else's turn to try and be interesting.

Inevitably, that person isn't interesting either and it cycles through more batters and more innings and more games (160+!) in the vain hope enough decent contact between bat and ball is made to justify calling it a season. Take away the drugged-up big hitters and the only things it has over cricket are those catches where the player hangs over the high wall and the fact you can try a mankad without everyone complaining that its ungentlemanly.

Baseball is just a mom and dad giving their kids equal time trying to hit the ball before the picnic's finished.
