Geelong currently has picks 15, 33, 39 and 49 in the draft and is believed to be keen on Tom Swift, a medium-sized midfielder from Claremont, WA, who finished in the top five in the 20-sprint and top 10 in the beep test at the draft camp last month.

whats everyones take...not sure tom swift is a medium sized midfielder...pretty sure i heard in a report saying hes 192cm tall..is he likely to slip, 2 knee opp's i dont think any of the 13 clubs (dogs already have taken Ayce) will take a punt on him

What about Casey Sibasado? Looks to be a Lance Franklin type of player.
Is he worth drafting? What draft number pick do you think he will go to?

i have never seen this guy play so i'm not actually saying that he's not talented, but really why compare him to franklin... if he was anything like him then he would surely go number 1. what characteristics does he have, from interest, that make him a lance frankin type player?

Is the general consensus that if Swift is there we WILL take him? The rumours certainly are that we are very keen on him. I wonder which sides with picks ahead are seriously considering him.

Can I pose the question that if Yarran were to slide to us, would he interest us? I saw his highlights on youtube and he can sure play.

I don't think its consensus. AFAIK the 'rumours' amounts to a throwaway comment by Emma Quayle in a draft camp article suggesting we were rumoured to be keen on him; the only thing giving it any credability is that Quayle wrote it, as she is generally pretty accurate on this sort of stuff. Only other thing I've seen on the matter is the circumstantial (if I can call it that) evidence that Swift is the type of guy off the field we've been known to go for - country boy, solid citizen, bible basher etc.

EDIT: The 'consensus' until pre-finals was that based on an analysis of the list, we would go tall and that in all likelihood this would leave us choosing between Lisle and Trengove. The finals campaign shook that up a bit, though; I for one think Swift is looking a more and more attractive option and that a tall player can wait until lower (Post, Jones) or until next year.

Geelong under Thompson have already sucession planned quite well but we need to replace those that haven't come on and fulfilled there part of the plan.
I think our most pressing need is a mobile leadup kp position forward who can compliment the THawk and is more in the Riewoldt, O'Keefe mould. Nathan was the man but he is off to join the booming recession proof building industry
Simpson may be the man but needs more time. Charlie G was the man in the plan but proven not to be up to it.
There seems to be a few draftees that meet the criteria but I wouldn't have a clue how good they will be but that's Wellsy's job. Names include, Johnston, Shoenmakers, Cahill.

The next most pressing need is a run and carry midfielder with extreme pace. We need to succession plan for Wojo and his natural replacement in Tenace is proving not to be up to it. Djekurra may be the man but I am not so sure.

Another clever goalkicking small/medium forward in the SJ, Didak mould would be more than useful. Yarran sounds like he meets the criteria but most expect he won't be available at 15.

Finally a big bad gorilla keeper defender would do just nicely. People are saying we need to succession plan for Harley and Milburn but I think this has already been done with Taylor and to some extent Mackie. Besides, the year before they retire is too late. Trengrove sounds like he fits the mould.

But overall I am happy for Wells to go best available with our first pick and work the succession plan therafter. Tom Swift sounds like Joel Corey reincarnated and I would be very excited if he landed at the Cats. However, apparently he is the best under 16 footballer that Voss has ever seen and Vossy gets a pick before us.

Looks abit like buddy, hes not bopping up in draft threads are you sure hes eligible this year? if so yeh we should use maybe our second rounder on him:D

I'm 100% sure he is eligible this year. He is a NT kid who has played a lot of school footy in Melbourne. Only played a few games for the Chargers so he has been hidden away a little I guess.

People only really started talking about him on bigfooty after Jason McCartney did a profile of him on afl.com. I've got a feeling he is rated higher by AFL recruiters than the bigfooty experts. He looks really good on that video footage.

Does anyone know his exact height?

Anyone else following the official phantom? Solid if unspectacular picks:

Bloods Boy from the Bush said:
Pick 15 - Geelong - Ash Smith - Midfield - 185cm, 84kg - Dandenong Stingrays

Yeah as VC mentioned I really do like Smith's pace and as Geelong stated in trade week they want speed. Smith recorded the fastest 20M sprint as this years DC with a 2.80 the fastest ever by a non-indiginous player. To add to his pace is his thumping kick something which I really liked the look of in the finals I watched him in. Thought he was sparingly used in Nationals usually off the bench playing only 2 or 3 quarters a game put his pace and kicking off half back were a big asset to VM in the games I watched. I see him as a similar player to Wojak but with more elite kicking.

I realise he is a it of a bolter but I rate him quite highly and a players the cats will target given his speed. Knowing he wouldn't be around for my next pick I felt it nessesary to take him here.

Pick 33 Geelong - Rhys O'Keefe SA

Quite surprised he sild this far TBH and was grad to take him. Was looking for KP with this pick but couldn't turn down O'Keefe who is quality Midfield/Half Back. Won MVP for SA in this years carnival and in the games I saw was there stand out player racking up possesions and using the ball really well. Will be a good rebounding Half-Back of a solid midfielder for the cats for a number of years.

Pick 39 - Nathan O'Keefe - KP Forward (third tall) - 192cm, 82kg - Eastern Ranges, Vic

Tallish Key Forward who joined the Ranges list mid way through the season (Not sure why he didn't at the start). Played mainly as CHF in the couple of games I saw and has a strong pair of hands and was very good kick for goal. Out-marked and Out-played Hurley in round 19 and than was very dangerous in the final I saw him in against the Bushies. Bit of a risk I just think he has plenty of upside and could be a really good quality forward for the cats who will give him plenty of time to develop.

Pick 49 - Geelong - Taylor Hunt (Sandringham Dragons)

A really quick midfieder who loves to run and carry the ball. Watched him a couple of times for VM and noticed that he quite gets the ball and takes off breaking lines. His delevery can be little off at times but makes up for it with the speed and carry he generates. Together with Smith the will charge off the half-back line and give Geelong the little bit of speed they require.

I think Swift might be more likely than Suban and we might go a bit taller/backer :)p) than Nathan O'Keefe...still, about what we've agreed on I would have thought. Couple of speedy mids, solid HBF'er and a KPP. Alongside Ranga as the insider and whoever we pick up in the rookie, a solid collection.

From memory the last time Swift played he was about 185cm so he has grown a bit. He is an interesting prospect now at 192cm.

Whoa, having both reread my post (I meant Smith, not Suban) and realised who he meant by Ash Smith...hell no! Smith it a second rounder at best. Would much rather have taken Swift purely on the basis that he's fast and tall.

yeah ive been having a look at the mock draft with a bit of interest.... agree that weve been solid without getting anyone who i see to have the potential to be an out and out superstar.

would rather take swift as a midfielder at 15 if available ahead if smith.

interesting to see what we could have ended up with e.g people that were still around at our picks that we passed on

i'm having a browse and it could have ended up like this
15 swift
33 broadbent
39 cornelius/ tom hill
49 sibsado

prob like the look of that better imo although not a bad effort from BBFTB do like r okeefe with 33 so not too disapointed with that just threw broadbent out for something different

anyway i thought i'd ask you guys who would be your ideal picks at 15, 33, 39 and 49. obviously taking into consideration who might still be around, so no rich or watts with 15 but just interested to see who you guys are eying off

personally like swift at 15,and dont mind mckernan too much either although it seems a lot of bf posters dont rate him that highly.

then for our later picks would be happy with a cornelius, broadbent, luke shuey, r okeefe, suban, sibsado or maybe a jordan lisle if he slides to 33

a little disappointed we dont have a fourth round pick, as i think this would be agreat spot to try and nab some late talent at 64 or whatever it would have been. a developing ruck or kpf would top off the draft nicely imo... i know a lot of people are saying they dont want another ruck because we have a lot, but i think we have a lot of average rucks and once ottens goes then we really dont think we have anyone that will be able to handle the burden of no1 ruck with any great confidence

anyway who are you guys hoping we snare come a few weeks time???

Details - Played for Nt in the NAB Champs, but only as he is bording in VIC (Xavier) and was unable to train for WA locally due to distance. NT called him up. He is from (near) Broome in the Kimberley, and has been on Scholaship to Xavier for 2006-2007-2008.

Height is 192CM
Weight approx 85-90KG

Plays TAC with Oakleigh, and School footy for Xavier.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They should have got a Geelong supporter to do the Geelong picks because it really doesn't look like our selections are being as well thought out as others. Picking Smith ahead of Swift just wouldn't happen. I don't think the Nathan O'Keefe pick had a lot of thought to it either.

Thanks for that info Geminicatz. At 192cm, he would have to be highly considered. There must be more to the story as at that height (plus the likelyhood of growing further) and with that video package, he almost sounds too good to be true.

Word on the street is, "shithouse attitude"

Just to let everyone know, my phantom draft is very close and should be up within the next few days!

Are there any Cyril Rioli clones?

We need a lightnig, balanced, aggressive player who will take full toll of all the ball we generate inside 50m.

Basically what Travis Varcoe was supposed to be.

If Egan's future playing career is confirmed to be over then I think we have to seriously look at taking Trengove if he is available.

I doubt he'll be there at 15, seems too good for other clubs to pass up.

With today's news, I wonder now if we'll take Phil Davis with pick 15? Guess it might depend on how Dan McKenna is rated internally.

Still, if one of Trengove, Johnston or Swift fall I'll be happy, and then try to get a tall defender with a later pick (if they don't get Trengove that is).
