Im just ya normal reserved seat holder 17 game member and am curious as to what would happen IF we make the GF. Do u get a ticket to line up in a queue and how many tickets can u get from one membership?

I need to take someone who is a non member with me and dont know how i would do it. Is there any way around it at all?

Yes very hypothetical but the earlier i know what the process is the better.

To get them through GFC you need to be a september member if gfc is in the GF they will have more tickets to sell

The process when we were in our last prelim was this:

Had Geelong won, all members could queue up after the game for a a ticket to line up the next day at fed square.

So you get to line up twice, which is great :)

in the past usually one membership is good for one ticket, so it may be an idea to get a hold of someones membership who isn't going so you can buy one for your friend. A certain amount of tickets are allocated to GFC members and if you are not a September member or a Social Club member you wont get one through the club. Best bet is to do what every other member does is grab a chair and a warm sleeping bag and get ready for a vigil outside ticketek office in Federation Square to get your ticket. I have known people to stay outside the ticket office from after the Saturday prelim final to the next morning. Then you may get a ticket.

If it has changed in recent years someone may give the updated version

Post this on the main board, you'll probably get 50 hits in a minute. ;)

There's a 60% chance you won't be getting a ticket, so there's definately no chance of the non member getting one. One ticket per membership are the rules, if you are lucky enough to even get one.

Plus, they probably, in all fairness, don't deserve a ticket when so many members miss. That's just the way the ticketing debacle works for the grand final unfortunately. Tickets are scarce as they are, let alone a non-member taking the place of a Geelong member..

Question for everyone. Would you got to the final IF we made it and you were the only person who was a member and you had to sit by yourself???

Yes.. i don't think anyone would pass up the opportunity, just because they were by themselves.

what does one do if you have September member membership? :thumbsu:

Does anyone know the procedure? I am likely to be overseas the week before the GF

Yup, definitely.

I got a ticket for the 95 GF. Did not line up, went to Ticketmaster at Windy Hill about 12pm, on the day they went on sale. The lady said her boss gave her 6 extra tickets to sell not 5 minutes ago. I was just in the right place at the right time. (or in hindsight.. the wrong place at the.. ) Anyway, my poor mum couldnt belive I got a ticket. Asked to buy one of them, but couldnt since she wasnt a member that year. :D

I go to every Vic game and maybe 2 interstate this year. Been to Aurora so far. If i missed out i would............................... yeah you get the picture.

In 2004 , if we had won the Preliminary against the Lions , the club had informed the Captain(Now September) members along with Social Club members that they would have a period of time (on the Sunday morning I think from memory) to purchase the tickets before the release of any to the rest of the general members. We were going to be able to purchase them from the club in Geelong and somewhere in Melbourne. If you didn't purchase at that time your rights would be lost.

However , It's still a bit early to be thinking about it Boys and girls. We finished on top of the ladder in 1980 and didn't get to the GF so finishing the guarantees nothing

If you missed it would be an absolutely typical Grand Final week story.
Its sounds like you haven't been thru the pain of GF week.I have , I missed out in 89 and I dont want to ever feel like that again. The pain of people that have followed a club for 50 years etc and then miss out.Tears , anger , dispair. Its not pretty and it has the potential to permanently divorce the members that miss out.

The fact is the G holds around 100,000. Take out MCC members , AFL members , Grand Final tickets to all the other clubs. It will leave around 20-30,000 seats max. to be divided among the GF clubs proportionally based on their membership numbers. So If Kangas with 20,000 members and Pies with 40,000 members play off , the Pies will receive around 2/3 of the available tickets. Even so , at least 50% of their members would NOT get access to a ticket.

How do we solve it? Its all about money. Most of the tickets that go to the other clubs are sold as high priced packages or given to high price sponsors . Would every member be willing to pay double or more for the tickets cause thats what they are really worth. The fact is its so hard , so rare to get, it makes their their worth far more than their face value. Look at a ticket to the Formula1 or the World Champs Swimming and I know what I'd rather pay money to see.The Captains club charges $150.00 each year for the right to purchase IF we get there. I have been in it from the start and some might say it would be cheaper to pay scalpers but at least the money gos to the club.Others agree I believe its now full.

No easy answer I'm afraid.

Wasn't going to renew my september membership! lucky i did haha. That being said what is the likelynes of getting level 1 seats from it?

Not very good. As for those wondering if there will be tickets about, there will definitely be tickets on ebay and elsewhere. If money is no issue, you will easily find one.

True i know that would be a typical GF story and yes i never have had to worry bout attending previous GFs, i was just a kid playin country footy watchin the cats on tv when i could. Since '99 i go to alot of games and now ALL Vic games for the past few years.

Dont think a thread like this is gettin ahead of ourselves. Its not like im gonna ask questions on here after a preliminary final win am I? Be to late. Pretty much have made finals and almost top 4 (will be a choke if we dont). So i would say we are like 2 important wins away from a GF! Roughly maybe 40% chance to make it so im gonna ask questions now not later.

This is why the prelim is the real GF atmosphere, where the true fans are at the game, not neutral MCC and AFL members along with corporates and other rich knobs....

It would happen only once a year but they'd seriously fill the stadium if it held 150,000.....the only solution is to get on the MCC waiting list, buy an AFL membership of the september member.

I just hope we MAKE the GF let alone me getting a ticket to it.
