potential mids?

I'd be more concerned with GC and WS poaching Pav.
They already have the best young talent served up on a plate, unlike us at our inception, and they are more focused on "marque" players.

If pav was going, he would have gone, the fact is, is that he will be on the veterans list with his next contract, we'll be able to match gold coast price wise because of that.... and what forward would want to leave a team with nic suban and stephen hill kicking them the ball? :thumbsu:

Palmer, Hill and Suban will be the type of players they'll be after. 20 years old, 40 games under their belt and ten years of footy left.

They'll look for 2 or 3 big names who are 25-26 but the rest of the guys they'll be targetting will be in their early 20's.

Yeah Pav was a poor call on my behalf considering his age. But I reckon that they will still be sniffing around.. I was thinking of them wanting to poach established high class, Marque" players and Pav automatically sprung to mind.
Hill, Suban and Palmer make much more sense.

all three of which, are thankfully under contract :thumbsu:

When they are coming out of contract they will come knocking.
I wonder how different our history would look if we received the same concessions?
I know it's another "what if" question, but it is interesting.
I would start a thread on it, but I am still recovering from my last effort.:p

yeah but thats not different to all other clubs... every club chases the young players of other clubs... well except melbourne ;)

He is never going to be the prime Centerman like Judd or Ablett now but he can be a very good one like Greg Tivendale or Joel Bowedon in the 2001 Richmond side. Not the main mids but very good ones considered for AA

I think Ibbo is somewhat under rated on here. I thought his 09 season was excellent, top 10 in the Doig I think, and long term he projects as one of our best couple of mids.

what about mayne, ballas, and ruffles the next 'kevin bartlett':D.when do they come out of contract?

well, mayney and ballas are WA boys, i would be staggered if either consiedered leaving the club, i know mayne recieved a 3 year deal which would mean he is out of contract at the end of this year. id expect the club to sew him up pretty quickly, have a feeling, but am not 100% sure that ballas got a 1 year extension on top of his 2 year deal, meaning he would be in contract. and as for the great man, i have spoken to him personally and he loves the club and i quote "would give anything to be a part of a premiership at fremantle" so im not concerned about Tim "potentially the best player that has ever kicked a footy" Ruffles :D

i agree, if anything i reckon he gets a rough deal, think 2010 will be a breakout year for him

It obviously helps to start with a winning culture.

Without turning this into another Schwabolly bashing thread (although in my opinion there can never be enough of those ;)) I think the fact that we had been so bad for so long played a large part in people accepting our underachieving seasons in 2004 and 2005.

Everyone certainly appears better in a winning side. Look at all the young adelaide players last year.

We have to know what defines a great midfielder. The midfielder award gives a pretty good indication as to who are the elite midfielders at the moment I have removed any non-midfielders (around 10 in all). I grant that most of these players come from teams pushing for the 8 but at the end of the day midfielders win you games. *odds from sportsbet

So who will make this list at this time next year :
IMO Palmer and Hill will. Maybe Suban and Broughton. Potentially Ibbo (would need to win a hell of a lot more of the footy though.

Is Walters a candidate for the midfield?
I have just presumed he would be a small forward, maybe pinch hitting in the mid on occasion.

Has he got a background in the mid?

When Walters gets his fitness base up he could be a terrific mid. Already in our best few kicks (in terms of low flat fast pinpoint delivery) and good attack on the ball.

KPR love the Ruffles love! I'm a big Timmeh! fan too.

Hill, Palmer, Suban, Morabito, Walters, Ruffles and Mayne will be a very exciting combination, hoping Hall/Crichton/Hinkley will make it too.

Ibbo strikes me as one who needs the coaches constantly riding him.

He's not soft per se and we've seen him do plenty of gutsy things when he's switched on properly, but he seems to sometimes let the hardness drift out of his game unless he's getting regular kicks up the arse to stay switched on. A bit like how Leigh Matthews handled Dessie early on in his career.

Brilliant analogy on Ibbo/Des.:thumbsu:
Ibbo has all of the talent in the world but just does things at times which make you cringe at the softness of them.
Let's hope that Harv's has a big stack of firecrackers at his disposal.
I reckon that he does.
