Is he promising?
Didn't watch the U18s comps last season. First time I'll see him is in Academy trial games next year most likely.

I just meant that it's great that we have a father-son in the ranks at the club.

See ya in 18 years Robbie junior

Gary Tredrea, another Port Adelaide small forward/midfielder, once had a son born in the week before Christmas.

Can you see where I'm going with this?
That the draft should be held on the 6th of January?

and to think that if Cahill stayed on as coach, a supporter from a Victorian club would be saying the same thing!

To be honest I thought we already had a father/son academy, so yesterday's announcement was a surprise.
We did, it started in June last year .... http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/video/2017-06-07/fatherson-next-generation-academy-ptv

This article looks to be just an article about the Academy, not an official opening of it .... although a few of the heading links look a little misleading.

"CHILDREN of past Port Adelaide greats will have the opportunity to follow in their father’s footsteps, with the establishment of the club’s elite AFL Father/Son Academy. After kicking off in 2017, the program has seen a number of famous family names return to Alberton to train in Port's AFL environment.

Trent Burgoyne and Taj Schofield – sons of Power premiership players Peter Burgoyne and Jarrad Schofield, and Mitchell and Jackson Mead - sons of Port Adelaide great Darren Mead - have all spent time at Alberton under the tutelage of Port’s development coaches over the past year.
.....

Taj will be draft eligible in 2020, as will Oscar Lade and Owen Montgomery.

Oscar played U15s for Plympton last year. Does anyone know if a SANFL club has picked him up for their U16s team this year?

Also, does anyone know where (if?) Owen Montgomery is playing junior footy in Melbourne?
Forgot to mention Noah Wilson (Cherry Gardens) is also eligible in 2020.

Then we've got Tex Wanganeen (Walkerville), Will Francou (Mosman, Sydney) and Jace Burgoyne coming through in 2021. It's exciting to see how many father-son prospects are coming through for us over the next 5-10 years.

Just the next 5 years F/S:

2019 - Trent Burgoyne
2019 - Jackson Mead
2020 - Oscar Lade
2020 - Owen Montgomery
2020 - Taj Schofield
2020 - Noah Wilson
2021 - Jace Burgoyne
2021 - Will Francou
2021 - Tex Wanganeen
2023 - Oliver Francou
2023 - Jack Lade

If that's the case we might see some of Jackson & Trent in this years SA U18's as underage players. Fingers crossed they are up to it and earn a spot.

Exciting times ahead. We haven't had a lot of famous Port names play for us in recent years outside of the Eberts and both T.Burgoyne and J.Mead seem to be on the right track given they made the U16 state team last year.
