DBJ is playing at an All Australian level. You don't move a player of that calibre to a position he hasn't played during his entire AFL career, just so you can play a first or 2nd year player across half back.

Hartlett is almost 30 so he won't have too many years left. Burton is always going to be out for a few games each year. Jonas is going to be 30 soon as well. There will be plenty of opportunities for Jones in the coming years without having to move our more important rebounding defender out of our back line.

Has a 21.1 yo-yo, that’s above average for draftees. For comparison Will Gould got 19.4 and Matt Rowell got 21.3.

His endurance is a lot better than what his body image suggests.

Jones hasn't done much in the quarter and a bit I have seen against South this arvo, but Timmy G showed his highlights against Westies last week and he is a hard at it bastard type defender. Reckon he will hurt anyone he gives a decent hip and shoulder to.

CLUBS are anticipating changes to Next Generation Academies for next year as the AFL works through its plans for the talent program.

However, they remain in the dark on whether this year will be the last that highly regarded draft prospects can join clubs under the system.

The 2020 draft pool is the most compromised in history with a high number of NGA, northern Academy and father-son players available, including the potential No.1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (pictured) with the Western Bulldogs.

But with a lower investment at club level, it is unclear if access to top talents such as Ugle-Hagan and Lachie Jones, who is tied to Port Adelaide's NGA and predicted as a first-round pick this year, could be altered.

At the end of last season the AFL begun reviewing slashing the 20 per cent points discount afforded to clubs who match a bid for their Academy players.

20% discount is absolute bullshit for most of these selections. If they genuinely develop someone who had a really strong League, Union, basketball etc background or a kid born O's in a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background and ploughed significant time and resources into them, then fair enough to get a discount, but what bullshit that John Blakey's son gets a 20% discount because he trained in the Swans academy. Same with the 20% father son discount. These kids wouldn't have had that much resources ploughed into them.

The West Australian and South Australian clubs had been granted access to extended zones in their respective states, with metropolitan areas being included for their NGAs, before this season. However, as COVID-19 struck, their applications to add more players from metropolitan regions have been left on the back burner.

Once again how Vic centric is that reporting by AFL Media. NGA kids born overseas covers metro areas for all of Oz. But WA and SA clubs can only use it for indigenous kids who live in WAFL and SANFL clubs' country zones not metro Perth and Adelaide zones. That's what they were asking for changes to the rules. But the rest of Oz, metro indigenous kids qualify for the other 14 clubs' NGA.

NGA should focus on under represented people like the African community of which there is a large migrant population who don’t have access to the rich upper class private schools that offer excellent sports programmes that are producing the bulk of afl talent.

If this comes into effect, surely clubs will reduce their investment in Next Gen Academies? If you've put significant time and investment in, only to not get first access to highly rated players from your academy, why would you continue to devote significant funds to it?

If so, this means we are near certainties to miss out on Lachie Jones despite us manoeuvring through the draft last year to stockpile late picks to match the bid. Typical VFL bullshit.

I don't think it is applying to this years draft. Certainly hope not as like you said, some clubs have positioned themselves to take NGA players in the next draft.
