He's got Russell Ebert thighs - already. I can see the fitness staff putting a lot of running drills into his first preseason. If Bonner is watching Lachlan Jones he should be on the phone to his agent.

I wouldn’t let his size fool you, he is a very good runner. A great athlete all roundHe's got Russell Ebert thighs - already. I can see the fitness staff putting a lot of running drills into his first preseason.
Does the app have access to the replays? I’m interstate.Lachlan Jones Playing for WWT today on ch7 at 1.30
Monty will play him straight away as he can play on talls and smalls which he loves. I really hope we push Byrne-Jones into the midfield next year to open up a spot for Jones or Bergman.
He might be a good athlete but the fitness staff have their ideas on body shape and kms expected to be churned out. He has some puppy fat on him. no dramas. but he will get pushed like never before at his first preseason.I wouldn’t let his size fool you, he is a very good runner. A great athlete all round
Has a 21.1 yo-yo, that’s above average for draftees. For comparison Will Gould got 19.4 and Matt Rowell got 21.3.He might be a good athlete but the fitness staff have their ideas on body shape and kms expected to be churned out. personally if he has great speed then I don't care about his endurance stuff, by the fitness staff think different.

It's so nice that this program designed to help develop multicultural young men who might otherwise be lost to football is going to allow us to pick up *checks notes* Lachlan Jones. What part of Africa is he from?
The AFL also has contributed $150,000 to each club annually for the development and resources in the Academies but has not yet confirmed to clubs if that sum will return in 2021.There is a view amongst clubs that the role of the NGAs could be mixed into the restructure of second-tier competitions, which could form greater ties with under-18 clubs in Victoria.
If it is changed, several clubs have called on it to be phased out over years so that players who have already signed on for Academies and are due to reach the draft in coming seasons remain tied to their clubs. At the end of last season the AFL begun reviewing slashing the 20 per cent points discount afforded to clubs who match a bid for their Academy players.
The West Australian and South Australian clubs had been granted access to extended zones in their respective states, with metropolitan areas being included for their NGAs, before this season. However, as COVID-19 struck, their applications to add more players from metropolitan regions have been left on the back burner.

From the article HH linked
I know AFL Media are Vic centric, but absolutely nothing about the alternative for the rest of the country
20% discount is absolute bullshit for most of these selections. If they genuinely develop someone who had a really strong League, Union, basketball etc background or a kid born O's in a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background and ploughed significant time and resources into them, then fair enough to get a discount, but what bullshit that John Blakey's son gets a 20% discount because he trained in the Swans academy. Same with the 20% father son discount. These kids wouldn't have had that much resources ploughed into them.
Once again how Vic centric is that reporting by AFL Media. NGA kids born overseas covers metro areas for all of Oz. But WA and SA clubs can only use it for indigenous kids who live in WAFL and SANFL clubs' country zones not metro Perth and Adelaide zones. That's what they were asking for changes to the rules. But the rest of Oz, metro indigenous kids qualify for the other 14 clubs' NGA.
Not enough Victorian clubs benefiting. Will come into effect after the 2020 draft so we can still grab Lachie Jones.
If this comes into effect, surely clubs will reduce their investment in Next Gen Academies? If you've put significant time and investment in, only to not get first access to highly rated players from your academy, why would you continue to devote significant funds to it?
I don't think it is applying to this years draft. Certainly hope not as like you said, some clubs have positioned themselves to take NGA players in the next draft.Have read this morning that the AFL is likely to change the rules on academy players such that if they get drafted in the first round by another club, the academy club doesn't get the right to match the bid.
If so, this means we are near certainties to miss out on Lachie Jones despite us manoeuvring through the draft last year to stockpile late picks to match the bid. Typical VFL bullshit.
