Why would they even want jones? They need kpp and mids. You can find defenders with mid draft to rookie picks.
half the last decades all-Aus small and medium defenders were probably rookie draft picks and the rest 2nd rounders onwards.
Lol they have a massive dose of offended going on. Everything about getting one up on Port.
Must be an ambassador thing. Just enjoy your three-peat in season junk time you sad sack bunch of losers.
Today someone called up AA and told them Port's combined losses this year totalled 119 points. Of course it was horseshit.
they got a couple of 196cm KPP last year:- Worrell & McAsey
they might get another KPP / Ruck this year:- Thilthorpe
If they get a 2nd pick for Brouch then they could get either:- Hollands or Phillips
and it looks like they will get Edwards, Borlase & Newchurch very cheaply (with picks 44, 48 & 60)
so that will leave for them picks 9, 20, 31 and the compensation pick they will get for Atkins going to the Suns (maybe either 2nd round or 3rd round and maybe after their pick for those rounds)
Remember we can match if they try and use pick 20, 31 or the compensation pick.
the problem pick is their pick 9 which was GWS (it is a pick that will go Higher due to Freo being 254pts in deficit).. it will be pick 8 which is 1551pts
the next problem is with our picks we have a 116pt deficit from last year we have to make up
we also have the problem with a few compensation picks being given out this year which pushes back our picks (so the draft points we have get lower and lower) at this stage the cows could get 2 (with BCrouch & Atkins going to other clubs) and their will probably be other clubs
the final problem is we cant go into debt for 2021 especially for the father sons & Academy players we have then ...
We will have to find a way to get more draft picks

Take a read of the draft thread. REH did some calculations which show that even if they bid at pick 9 we have a 2nd round pick worth of additional points beyond what is needed to match.they got a couple of 196cm KPP last year:- Worrell & McAsey

I wonder how they would feel if they bid pick 9 and we did not match. I know we want Jones, but do we rate him highly enough to match there, and do they really want to risk using pick 9 on a HBF player.
A player like Jones, yes. If it came for Taj, probably not.
If they do bid 9 for Jones, we then Trade Bonner and Lienert for 2nd and 3rd’s after the fact, live trading and watching Sydney exploit this, we would have learnt. The deals will be done prior, just needing to be executed.
If Borlase rest pretty well at the Combine, I wouldn’t be against spending a Second on him.

Interview with Lachie Jones up on AFL.com
No Jones no Eagles. Centrals beat them.Darn, Lachie is out injured this week. He spoke about an ankle in that AFL interview and said he'd be right, but with the Torrens-Peckers locked in for top two they've not risked him. Good.
Rest up lad.No Jones no Eagles. Centrals beat them.
Rest up lad.
And if we do happen to get him and he is AFL ready who would he replace round 1 ?

Last 10 yearsHe would be a plug and play defensive small, so unless we have a few injuries I'm not sure he'd be a walk up start into our team. Burton, Houston and DBJ are locks. He would probably be ahead of Bonner and Mayes though so would be the first called up in the event of an injury.
Last 10 years
2011 Pick 6 Wingard, plays rd 1 2012
2012 Pick 7 Wines, plays rd 1 2013
2018 Pick 5 Rozee, plays rd 1 2019
2018 Pick 10 turns to 12 after NGA bids Butters, plays rd 1 2019
If he is a top 10 pick and hasn't had surgery and doesn't get injury in the preseason he probably plays Rd 1.
Injuries and form loss happens in the preseason.
When was the last time an AFL side picked the same 22 or 21 when it was 21 or 20 when it was 20, in the last game of Year X and for the first game of Year X+1??
when has Port Adelaide not picked up injuries in late January or early February when training really cranks up and the competitive match simulation starts? then there are injuries in the preseason games. If DBJ, Houston and Burton are all healthy come week 1 next season, would you still expect Jones to get a spot ahead of one of them though? I get that form, injuries etc always play a role in the rotation of selections on any given week. But strictly speaking, our small defenders are one of our bigger strengths in the team, and at full strength, I'd be sceptical that Jones would get a game ahead of the three aforementioned.
Is this kid guaranteed to Port from the sounds of it? Surely the neighbours want to snatch anything from us.
The draft isn’t compromised because of father sons like Taj
It’s compromised because there’s a tonne of guys like Ugle-Hagan who was always going to be in a football system are tied to clubs, because the expan ngas get players like Blakey, and because everyone’s draft picks are going to be pushed back a dozen picks when free agents get oversized contracts.
F/s is the least of the problem.
