Potential training breach?

Surely the police don’t have the authority to grant exemptions. They’re there to enforce the rules, not create them. Obviously the exercise discretion in terms of charging, but they wouldn’t grant that in advance and as an ongoing practice.
Why are the NRL teams in both NSW and Qld back training again together? Because they were granted exemptions.

Why were Andrew Forest and Kerry Stokes flying around Australia? Because they were granted exemptions.

The idea that state police and governments grant exemptions is and has been happening

That's where having a strong chairman helps. Eddie would've done exactly that if it were the pies. Essentially would've dared the AFL to class it as "cheating" by being strong on the front foot.

Whilst we've got SA hide and seek champion Chapman as our beacon of shining light........

Correct weight.

Ours doesnt just not only bend over, ours asks for how long and for how many times.

Watch "Matthew Nicks on Fox Footy Live: May 9" on YouTube

Nicks is in a tough spot but too apologetic for my liking. Said it was an innocent mistake but when pressed on the penalty we may receive if any he stated he didnt want to elaborate. I feel he could have elaborated and put the incident into a better context that it was purely an error of judgement by young kids. Everyone makes mistakes and i am sure other clubs have. Doesnt sound like there was a lot of direction at the training. Not really sure why they didn't just isolate at home. Pretty sad this is even a story.

Fagan practically begging for maximum punishment. Nicks gutted and blaming himself when he was nowhere near it. Chapman invisible.

What a bunch of lily livered masochists. Grow a bunch FFS.

I know Tanunda Pines like the back of my hand, but lucky for the crows my playing days are over... **** I would’ve dobbed in the club too if it meant the guaranteed sackings of... ummm about 6 key staff.

I’ve had a closer look at this. We didn’t have an exemption. There’s no provision for exemptions per se. You can be exempted but only on the grounds of being an essential worker.

We don’t qualify as essential workers, we don’t fit any category. We can’t have been under the impression we were essential workers, otherwise we would not have gone to the trouble of booking the resort. We knew we had to quarantine.

The only confusion that could have arisen was what we were allowed to do during quarantine. I don’t believe SAPOL would have told them they could train in groups during quarantine, when they have no power or authority to do so.

The only logical conclusion was that, in querying what we could do, we have somehow failed to make it clear we were going there to quarantine and SAPOL thought it was a normal training camp.

The only person able to give either a discretionary exemption in full or in part would be the relevant minister - certainly not SAPOL.

The only bit of that that's true is Chappy

SAPOL knew we were going there as we explained the circumstances that Nicks did on TV today. It wasn't that we were essential, it was that host families could have been.

Plus in quarantine you can still use your private property. We made the deal with Novotel which is an AFL partner to treat this as "our house".

If the players kept to the rules for the 2 weeks we wouldn't have heard anything about it, like the first 3 days they were there.

Incorrect.

If you’re sharing your “home” with others you are expected to nominate a dedicated room and stay there. Certainly not mix with other members of the household.

They were in breach of quarantine as soon as they left their room, as stated by the Commissioner.

They may have thought they had some authority to move - but they didn’t

Your probably correct but what I do not want to see is the AFL punishing us for something our local authorities have dismissed. The only AFL thing to look at was our guys getting together at the end for a kick to kick . More than 2 players. Reprimand at worst.

what tweet

Oh some 19 year old, Instagram, possible "Influencer" tweeted "Guess what height I am".

Now, he could have said "The height of stupidity" and I, for one would have laughed

But he typed "Just right", which given he is 50 in an age of "Metoo" is just asking for trouble...and even outside of that, really isn't cool for a married guy to do. I know it is hard to believe that one of our leadership would misread the room but there is Nige

Even if they personally knew each other and it was some in joke, it's STILL a bad look for a public figure to tweet that.

Shows a clear lack of judgement

Actually that's exactly why they HAD to go where they did.

It is unreasonable for a person who's profession is to be at peak physical fitness to do so in their room.

This is exactly why we sought to, and were allowed to go where we did. Again the AFL and SAPOL had no issue with this in the first few days of us being there.

Nicks even said it today, we stuffed up for 5-10 minutes but otherwise we did everything we were asked to do.

Have a read of this one.

We are being cautioned by SAPOL for breaking quarantine laws.

Commisoner Stevens says we were in breach for leaving our rooms.

There’s no room for misunderstanding here, we broke state laws. The only redeeming issue is that we did do under the misapprehension we had some kind of permission that we clearly didn’t have.

The only alternative is that we got permission from a SAPOL officer who had no authority to give it, and the Commissioner has stared down the barrel and lied to cover up. Unlikely i would have thought.

If a 50-year-old man does not know why it isn't cool to be "flirty" with a teen, then I seriously question any other decision he makes. I don't care if they knew each other and it was an in-joke ( and i know where you are coming from on that point), as a 50-year-old guy, there are things you don't do anymore...donuts in the car, the white-eared elephant joke at Xmas work parties, dancing and trying to mac on crumpet.

If he was sacked on Monday, I'd be like "fair enough" but I'd be like "can he take Benny with him?"

Should be hauled over the coals
