Potential training breach?

They're doing exactly what they're paid to do.

And it's wrong.

The thing is, it's absolutely possible to run a successful media organization that doesn't succumb to bottom feeding, clickbait, zero research, sensationalist garbage.

But no one does. Because the AFL doesn't want to accredit journalists that act professionally, and the companies that control AFL media have no interest in it.

It stinks. It's rotten.

There is demand for a professional, accurate, balanced AFL media outlet. But no, instead we get bullshit

Australia seems to have a much higher percentage of shit ones than a few other big sporting nations
The AFL want a compliant media. you are either in the camp or out

Used to be great sports reporters who wrote interesting researched articles.

Now it's mostly sensationalism chasing clicks, which personally I completely switch off from.

Also, and I think this is important, if you are being paid to write garbage, you have no right to complain when called out.

That's what really pissed me off about the AFL Exchange segment I mentioned. AFL.com.au pushed out garbage, got flak, then whinged about it. If you are being paid to put out that rubbish, then don't come whinge about being treated poorly when you receive fair negative feedback

The thing that amuses me most are when journos cry when called out on stupid statements.

The other day I was listening to the AFL Exchange podcast and they had this really salty section where the hosts had a go at GWS for calling AFL.com.au out for photoshopping Jeremy Cameron into an opposition team jumper. The hosts were having a massive sook saying it was bad for them to be called out publicly, they were totally fair with the photoshop, etc.

No one in this industry ever wants to accept responsibility. It's all deflect deflect deflect, blame blame blame, plenty of doubling down. Never a "sorry I got that information wrong" or a "we're pulling that information and issuing a correction" or "sorry we shouldn't have done that".

Just today we've had media personalities suggest draft and points sanctions. Then when that wasn't the penalty, instead of saying "we might have overestimated the severity of the situation"... well they double down again and complain about the sanctions, because they can't admit fault and don't want to admit they made themselves look bad.

I've mentioned a few times here that I work in the media (thankfully a completely different area). The action of sports journalists is among the worst I've come across, it's utterly disgraceful and I'd be ashamed of myself in a professional sense if I acted like they did. They constantly perform in an unprofessional manner, then wonder why they have no reputation and get slammed on social media 24/7. Yeah... I wonder...
I had a conversation with an AFL journo on Twitter yesterday, he admittedly that he has on occasion blown up a story but it's something he hates about his industry.

He didn't mention names but he referred to our current situation as the perfect example.

He said sometimes he wishes he wasn't.in his industry, and it's getting worse due "to 1 particular group of people lowering the bar"

A deformation case would shake things up.

Croc Media. Craig Hutchinson is cancer.

If we had copped draft picks and/or a 100k fine, I would have torn up my membership and quit AFL for good. It is time the idiots that run this club understand that saying you will cop a penalty whatever it happens to be, or offering a self-imposed penalty as we did with the Tippet thing is utter bullshit. We need a CEO, Chairman, Coach, etc that are willing to fight like f*** for this club.
I think the penalty that has been imposed is over the top for the minor infraction that occurred. There is no way our 16 players should have received any penalty at all.
Said it before..imagine if we had an eddie maguire type running our club. No way eddie would have sat back and copped it if he knew other clubs were also breaching the limit

Most of the Victorian AFL media are basically gutter journalists.

Unfortunately the AFL have encouraged this to keep them in the news, despite trashing journslism.

You're correct. The actual game itself is rubbish though. Interest isn't generated in/by the game, it's generated by everything but the game.

It's on the way to eating itself.

Croc Media - lets not let them be hidden away

It's not just his industry that's affected. Journalists acting in this way (from sports and other problematic sectors) taint the entire global media landscape. The race to the bottom has created a negative connotation for the phrase "the media" in general. Not good.

The AFL don’t want journalists that will criticise THEM or their crooked biased ways.

I think it's possible to operate a successful AFL media organization that isn't AFL accredited. The accreditation process grants you access to things which aren't required to cover the game properly. You don't need match day access to be a reporter.

And a journalist that isn't willing to put their "access" on the line to break a story (accurately) isn't doing their job properly anyway

I have over the last couple of Month Been Privleadged or burden, In reading news reports from around South East Asia, and they're a lot of them
The Level of Reporting and the details from some of these reporters put our lot to shame.

Funny part is when Caroline ask Sam who his source were which he deflected.....it like she has information it's someone related to Port Power.
Must admit i’m a bit disappointed in the outrage. I was expecting a lot more. Caro was only running at about 70%, Lloyd wasn’t much more than a shoulder shrug. Kane was Kane.

And the question no Vic journalist will answer if what we did was so bad and not in the public interest why are the VFL planning multiple games in the corona virus capital of Australia?

Yet everyone seems to think he's this ray of sunshine who is going to make everything ok.

Cut from the same cloth for mine.
I've literally seen no one on here say that. Consensus seems to be a cheap interim appointment who won't rock the boat and cause further rembarrassment to the establishment.

I don't think anyone is expecting any kind of performance turnaround.

Let's be honest. Pyke was the best coach we've had in decades. If you wanted performance you would've held a wide ranging review starting mid-season and turned over the tired players and inco football dept staff, like Richmond and Collingwood did.

Instead we went for the faux review far too late and the brains of the operation left us. But at least we still have Chappy at the helm.
