Potential training breach?

We don’t need to destroy Poort Pear, they are doing a fine job of it themselves.

Ignoring the AFLW and going all in China has set them back a decade. They can only revalue their assets including memorabilia so often before the VFL gets sick of pouring money into their coffers.

I don’t think they ignored AFLW. SA were always getting one team to start with and they were brilliantly outmanoeuvred by Fagan when he joined forces with the NT. They had to save face and rather than admit we won. They’d signed Erin Phillips to some role hadn’t they? A second SA team would always be in the last couple of expansions. I’m sure they’ll put their hand up as soon as the AFL ask and pay. Might be a while now though.

I've reallly lost a lot of respect for Caroline Wilson over the last few years. She has to be the biggest 2 faced individual in the media, especially when she's on Adelaide radio. She's usually all nice and glowing about us, then you listen to her on vic radio shes bagging us left right and centre. Her whole obssesion over the camp has also gotten out of control. Would say she's beating a dead horse but because she's beated it so much, there's pretty much no horse left.

It’s hilarious that anybody ever thought any different. She’s a paid mouthpiece for hire. Give her the inside scoop and she’ll leave you alone for a bit. Deny her and you’re fair game. You don’t want good copy from her, it means you’ve sold your soul. Better to be attacked.

Does anyone on here have any idea what these television panelists get paid. I heard this Morning Pete Evans on MKR was on $850k per year and even one of his assistants with a very minor role was on $300k. This might explain why these journo's need to be controversial as reporting the facts does not relate into ratings. Mistruths (maybe lies) get more reaction. Craig Hutchison likes this type of journalism.

Whilst yesterday was a good result for the AFC, and no one likes giving it to the shocking VicMedia more than I do, broader issues remain.

Once again we get a black eye in terms of admin and competence. One of the players caught up in this was McAsey....what would his thoughts be i wonder.

Clearly a very professional youngster, was probably ribbed a bit when we called his name - few camp jokes. They would have been shaken off with a laugh and the thought that stuff couldn’t happen again.

In his first season he finds himself sanctioned by the AFL.

How is our reputation with players I wonder. Do they cringe at the thought of coming here? I used to think - why wouldn’t you want to come to AFC. Big club, well off, highly professional etc etc.

How do we attract and retain when we just appear a bit dumb. It’s one thing to push the boundaries and even break rules with ruthless intent, but Tippett, Camp and now Barossagate, all just seem a bit stupid - embarrassing

It’s like we just roll our eyes and think - what have they done this time. Hard to club to like sometimes

You mean ‘mummy’s boy McCasey’ the mercenary that we’re better off without? Could only handle 2 years away from mum and left to that rabble for the cash. Enjoy getting spanked every week chief.

What? Too soon?

More like a happy day for the Crows and an embarrassing day for Vic Jurno's
Yes, correct me if I'm wrong, but the AFL at no stage made a comment until 'sanctions' were handed down. All we heard from the Vic journos was what they said the AFL thought, but nothing from the AFL itself

Adelaide has been pushed into this position of it potentially affecting sponsorship. Perfect chance to do it.

Interesting point of view, I hadn't considered potential effects on sponsorship.
However, someone legally trained might answer this: Is it defamation if you have actually broken the rule just because someone else has? You are still guilty of the breach no matter what others may have done.

Hutchy only loves one thing more than sensationalist journalism, and that's carbs

I had a conversation with an AFL journo on Twitter yesterday, he admittedly that he has on occasion blown up a story but it's something he hates about his industry.

He didn't mention names but he referred to our current situation as the perfect example.

He said sometimes he wishes he wasn't.in his industry, and it's getting worse due "to 1 particular group of people lowering the bar"

The AFL media hasn't been the same since Footy Prophet went under and lost me as a freelance writer IMO

All very well that the AFL hasn't commented, but the announcement of sanctions on the AFL site is written by old mate Barrett. So where does the AFL stop and the world of footy journalism start?

On another note, the problem is far more widespread than Vic journos. Rucci, Kornes, Barich......

So, I've been on the record for a long time about my hatred for all things Rucci. He's a small minded, bitter and pathetic creature.
I haven't bought an Advertiser for years thanks to his endless petty articles. I refused to listen to him on 5AA and won't listen to SEN while Rucci or his protege in the Failed Fireman is on air.

So I'm very, very reticent to say this, but, in light of the recent record coming out of the Crows, and the endlessly pathetic mistakes being made (really amateur stuff), was he right all along? Are we a real football club, with passion for the jumper, or are we a plastic club that is run for the corporates and so the board can have functions to back slap each other?

This is how I feel writing it, but it's becoming hard to ignore.

Look, this sort of shit is embarrassing - but West Coast had this as well, and had players **** up drug tests and get possible life bans, and had 20 years of drug abuse and probably a thousand other things, including MUCH more corporate activity.

The thing is, they win. And we've been shit.

We've been no more plastic than West Coast or Richmond. We just haven't been as ruthless or driven as them.

It's not the stuff we're doing, it's the stuff we're NOT.

I think most AFL clubs are plastic & run for the corporates compared to the olden days, it's just what the business of football is these days.

What we have at the moment is some seriously deficient leadership, primarily at board level now that the footy dept has been cleared out. A combination of a culture of blame-shifting, lack of responsibility, jobs for the boys, plus a lack of credentials to hold the positions they do. I do not believe it has always been this way, and there are some good people in the admin still (I think Fagan is decent but can't overrule the incompetents above him on the board), but things will not get better until there are changes. Chapman, Roo, Smart and Jamo's positions are all untenable for starters if we are being serious about improving things, they have all proven multiple times they are not up for the job.

Depends. Pete Evans is the "star" of a show delivering six or eight hours of prime time content a week (I've no idea how often it's on as I'd rather poke my eye out than watch). An hour of late night TV is far different. Often the networks are paying $0 for that content, as they just have an advertising revenue share deal. That's how Crocmedia and others have hoovered up so much off peak time.

I think there's a bit too much blame taking this time, but maybe that happened because they knew what was going on in back room negotiations (unlike when Trigg did it).

I think Chapman has to go (happy to say he's maybe delivered more good than bad), Smart (surely there will be some qwuality football administartors on the market), and I'm not sure what Jamo adds. Different to most, I'm happy to keep Ricciuto but I'd rather he didn't do commentary. Or he does it in the outspoken style of McGuire, where he shits off the opposition because he's clearly in our court.

FTFY :)

Also of note from the same story: Kochie's copped a 20% salary cut.

Yeah, I used to stick up for Caro because it must have been tough being a woman in the footy industry - but she's become a parody of herself the last few years.
For me, I was done with her when she released that story on Dangerfield wanting to go back to Geelong, on the eve or day of, our season opener against Geelong. Journalists that time their stories like that is the definition of gutter.

It’s not the breach. It’s the slander of suggesting the crime was worthy of being punished unreasonably making the club look worse than it actually was.

This is usually the time of year AFL media seek attention, and basically with Covid around they aren't getting it atm.
Its killing them, you can tell...

I’m not too worried. His first 2-3 games couldn’t have been any less encouraging. Fumbled everything. Long way to go before he will be on anyone’s shopping list.
Wouldn't write him off. Guys like Talia and Doedee has a significant amount of time to develop in the SANFL. McAsey doesn't have that luxury and got thrown straight into the deep end.
