Potential training breach?

Weird that 16 players, an assistant coach and a dietician all misunderstood the communication in the same way.

I guess 1-2 people misunderstood, and the rest were too ignorant or spineless to say “hey I’m not sure we are supposed to do this”

Or more likely some did speak up and were told to shut their mouths.

Still overseas and can't be bothered reading up on all of the information.

Can someone give me a summary of what happened?

Group of players in quarantine in the Barossa Valley, 10-12 of them trained together?

Ben Hart was involved, about all you need to know

As I had said we would be stupid if we werent already training as a group I am not going hard on the club

But I will roll my eyes on how we got caught at it so quick

Everyone needs to listen to Adam Kelly’s interview on 5AA tonight, it’s on Spotify or their website.

We got a discount to stay at the hotel and ended up being cheaper than supplying gym equipment to the players homes.

Essendon managed to keep a full on doping regieme hidden from how long?

We can't hide a few blokes kicking a football for even a few days.

Also, without any proof, we should have come out and said, "didn't happen"

But someone reported you were.

Didn't happen. You got photos?

Uh... no.

So you have zero proof, yet claim something happened. Is that the same way I can claim you're a paedo, without any proof?

But someone reported you.

Righto, excuse me. **pulls out phone, rings Gil** Hello Gil? I'd like to report Essendon are training together.

also, Essendon have the Hangar and Collingwood have the Lexus centre. But there's no way they'd be training together, in their purpose-built, enclosed, away-from-prying-eyes facilities. **** me.

And they still barely got in trouble.

I suppose you could say...

wait for it...

I've been waiting weeks to pull this one out...

Hird Immunity.

Fastest way for all of this to become a non issue would be for one of the above clubs to be accused of the same thing.

Mate, you're missing the point. If this was a once off miss-hap, I think we'd be far more understanding. No one, well apart from Sam Maclure, is really suggesting this is a massive breach in and of itself.

The AFL is effectively trying to negotiate with multiple levels of government a way around strict travel rules to get a season going. Part of the success of that negotiation would rely on players being able to follow simple quarantine/social distancing instructions.
At one level I agree with you. On another level, if you take into consideration all the ****-ups the NRL had, this doesn't even compare. And the NRL clubs are already back training.

Dan Andrews and the AFL admin seem to be joined at the hip, which I find somewhat concerning.

How will we have delayed the rest of the comp?

We've already been cleared by SAPOL.

Nothing to do with SAPOL.

Victoria restrictions ease to the same as WA and SA on Monday, whereby groups of 10 individuals could train together. Up until monday, its only groups of 2 legally in Victoria I believe.

WA teams were reported as getting an advantage being able to train as groups of 10 prior to victorian clubs, hence the AFL brought in its "fairness" rule. The rule was set to be released on monday in line with Victorian change in restrictions.

Last week, I believe, we requested the AFL extend the rule as a group of 16 of our players would be required to isolate for 14 days and thus wouldn't be able to train like those in Victoria. Now those 16 players have been caught breaching that very same rule. Its not a good look...

Rowey said he called the club about the draft pick thing (after Derwayne’s comments), and they told him effectively ‘over our dead body’. Sounding more and more it will be a suspended fine to deter any club from trying it again, especially after being cleared by SAPOL.
Might go and have a look at the thread on the MB. Sterge will be melting up a storm. What an embarrassment of a mod.

How exactly is the NRL's deplorable record relevant here? Should are aim to be "better than the NRL" because thats a pretty f'ing low bar. Personally I'd rather we aim a fair bit higher

If I had any interest whatsoever in the NRL, no doubt I'd be pretty critical of them too. But I couldn't give 2 shits about the NRL, whereas I have been a Crows supporter as long as I can remember...

Don't disagree re Andrews and the AFL btw.

In the grand scheme of things, ie infection control etc, yes, its pretty minor.

But when we've delayed the rest of the competition from expanding training to larger groups because our guys are stuck in this very same quarantine camp?

Quite frankly, we probably deserve a $20,000 fine as a club, $2,000 fine and 2 week suspension for each player/coach involved and move on. Mainly just because of the stupidity of it happening in the first place and the general "optics" of the whole scenario.

Unless Hart was under direct instructions from Nicks to bring the guys into larger groups, which is a much, much more serious situation, I think this has to be the last straw for Ben Hart. Players are young and stupid, most were probably sub 25 and if your coach say jump, they say "how high". But Ben played over 300 games and has now been an assistant coach for 12 or so years. He is THE most experienced coach (in terms of years served at AFL level) at our club, let that sink in...
Experience does not guarantee competence!

You missed the point. I appreciate that Andrews and by extension the AFL are being careful.

NSW of all states is in a far more precarious position that any other state. And SA has consistently had, along with the ACT, the most relaxed quarantine measures.

Far enough that the AFL and AFC needs to be better. However the NRL has shown a precedent. Whether they the AFL look at and still smash us is up to them

That’s a very long rant for a very minor mishap that was only brought in because Victorian clubs complained.

It is the most ridiculously petty rule the AFL has ever brought in, especially when Victorian clubs will be at a massive advantage when games start back up and we can’t play home games for a while.

All other rules are state based right now, so why are the AFL above that?

Hold on, I know that you're one of the better credentialed apologists, but you've been more normal lately. ams4crows post was clearly not about our club's most recent screw up in isolation, but rather a lament of our, "decade" of **** ups. I guess that there's only so much negativity that an apologist can handle before they start lashing out indiscriminately.
