Potential training breach?

It’s also worth noting in a prior Age article, SAPOL was quoted as saying that AFC have now applied for, and been granted, permission for single players to train solo.

This is indicative of us not having permission to run around prior to the blow up.

Have a read of this one.

We are being cautioned by SAPOL for breaking quarantine laws.

Commisoner Stevens says we were in breach for leaving our rooms.

There’s no room for misunderstanding here, we broke state laws. The only redeeming issue is that we did do under the misapprehension we had some kind of permission that we clearly didn’t have.

The only alternative is that we got permission from a SAPOL officer who had no authority to give it, and the Commissioner has stared down the barrel and lied to cover up. Unlikely i would have thought.

That's exactly what happened. I don't believe for one second we would have gone there and used the grounds if we didn't believe we had permission to do so. If we flat out said "**** it let's do this" on our own accord then we would have been absolutely reamed and rightly so.

We haven't been punished because of this misunderstanding. I don't believe Grant Stevens is covering anything up, rather he will be speaking to whoever was involved and keeping that in house.

I admire Nick's taking ownership and I think that is the kind of coach he is but he didn't need to. It's a bit like when a coach apologises to supporters for a teams poor performaces. It is admirable but you can burn those chances quickly. Save it for when it counts.
This is a pretty big deal in the eyes of many, he's right to use one up here.

Oh absolutely agree on that mate, no way have we done this deliberately. There is no doubt in my mind we had an honest belief we were ok to train in 2’s.

Equally Im certain the cops didn’t give us that permission knowing we were in quarantine - if they did Stevens is lying.

The only plausible explanation is that we were talking about what we could do during quarantine, but they thought we were talking about what we could do as SA residents at a resort.

I think that's a fair assumption.

IMO looking at Marion and TTP today, the Crows are low on their social distancing priorities currently

It is a big deal, I guess I was assuming someone in the football Management had organised it and communicated what was allowed.
It's a big deal in terms of national attention and the message we.want to send.

The actual act is seen every day of the week on numerous occasions with little to no consequences.

Can’t believe the notion of draft sanctions are even being discussed.

However, this is the AFL we’re talking about, so who knows.

If that were to happen, I’d be putting a block to my monthly membership fee immediately and calling it a day with VFL.

It's plausible that SAPOL had the idea of the quarantine accomodation and the training area being a contiguous area, (you are allowed to enter your own backyard when in isolation after all,) rather than the Novotel set up where they have to enter common areas to get from their rooms to training area.

To be honest I don't really care either way. It's only a technical contravention of preventitive rules to prevent you accidentally violating other preventative rules to prevent you engaging in behaviour that may spread the virus. As long as the important rules (distance and hygeine) were observed. Germ theory is not suspended for bad optics.

I don't even really care that AFC is again trying to sneak around AFL rules.

What annoys me is that the club has just cleared out a bunch of players and staff in the offseason, ostensibly to start a rebuild on field and off. But here we are again with the same group of people making the same sort of mistake.

Kind of funny, some in the media seem to be using this to attract national attention. More than it’s worth ..?

Same media continually speculating how big a **** up it is and demanding unrealistic sanctions.

Same media whinging it may delay or completely derail any start to the season .. I’m sorry, but I find that more that a little amusing

Second point is very good, the shops have been packed the last couple of weeks especially, even cafes and takeaway food places on weekends.

There is no social distancing going on at supermarkets anymore, they’ve given up. All self serve checkouts are open now. Ten people are standing next to each other at the butcher etc.

AFL players would be going through far stricter lockdown measures than the general public and happened to do an exercise with ~10 people who would’ve been more than 15 m apart.... suspend them all! Draft sanctions! Mass fines! ****ing spare me.

See for me, this depends on who is suspended. Say it's Mackay, Gibbs and a couple of others who really have no business in our best 22 now, I'm all for it. If it's kids who we need to get games into, then I'm not.

You underestimate the extent to which AFC has inadvertently blundered itself into things outside the usual Crows vs Victorian conspiracy politics, like federal party politics, NSW vs Victoria nonsense and various other intrigue. The fact that Victoria has the least impressive, (I won't say 'bad' because all Aus jurisdictions have handled CoViD 19 well,) testing and infection numbers and the strictest restrictions is very inconvenient for many groups for multiple reasons.

A complete non issue. Not worth any punishment, not even worth the oxygen that has been expended on it. Probably the least significant thing to occur ever in the history of human civilisation. But observe the try hards from all walks of life fall over themselves in performative bliss virtue signalling until the end of time.

In the current environment the AFL are salivating at this opportunity to focus on an imaginary perceived unmeasurable advantage that the Crows have allegedly gained, in order to deflect from all the actual real, measurable, systemic, long term advantages affored to their precious VFL sides, which currently have a lot of focus on them.

And Sam 5head Manure is at the front of the pack, unrelated, but what a fake individual. The way he carries on, he knows he doesn't deserve to have the career he has.

The issue is that the AFL were desperate to distract everyone from the VicBias discussion and the footy journalists were desperate for something to completely overreact to in order to justify their jobs. In comes our incurably stupid management and we hand them the opportunity on a silver platter.

FMD that took 1 minute to find

Like, is there anyone at the club who isn't a ****ing moron?

I've ****ing had it with these people.

If a 50-year-old man does not know why it isn't cool to be "flirty" with a teen, then I seriously question any other decision he makes. I don't care if they knew each other and it was an in-joke ( and i know where you are coming from on that point), as a 50-year-old guy, there are things you don't do anymore...donuts in the car, the white-eared elephant joke at Xmas work parties, dancing and trying to mac on crumpet.

If he was sacked on Monday, I'd be like "fair enough" but I'd be like "can he take Benny with him?"
Ex-AFL footballers can be like all the self-proclaimed winners at life. Think they are still special and their behaviour is still that of an overpaid, over-adulated personality of someone in the spotlight. They think youth is forever and still see themselves as part of the ‘in’ set, still one of the cool guys. They don’t see themselves as growing old.

They’re like the toolies who crash schoolies, still thinking they’re all part of it.

It turns my stomach.

If Geelong can breech the salary cap for 8 consecutive years and get a 40k suspended fine, but take us to the cleaners I'm so done with this league and this game.
It's not just that the AFL can, it's that we will let them.

Once again, a decent chairman would already be making noise in the public that we'd look at legal action if the penalty was too harsh for a 15 minute hiccup.

Instead we pull down our pants and stand there, allowing our master to select their weapon of choice for the caning.
