Practice Match at Casey Fields

Didn't make the trip to Cranbourne so no summary from me today. Will be there for Rd 1 next week, but for a team that was clearly bottom half last season, I must say it's definitely disappointing to lose regardless of being a practice match.

Any news?
It was he's left knee he injured prior to draft. Ryan had it iced before the break and came out after h/t showered up in a compression bandage without ice.
Immediately after could put no pressure on it at all, but after the break he was able to.
I believe he is hopeful that it's not too bad and will no doubt have scans. While around the 190cm mark not tall enough for KP but they tried him down back early.
Onto the match it was a better performance than last week (which wasn't hard).
Pittonet was strong and made a real impact. Save for a little bit of class on disposal he's an absolute goer who makes a great contest.
KB held he's own in a few marking contests and also makes a contest. Disposal has improved and you can tell he feels he belongs above this grade. Was tried in attack in 3rd qtr which is interesting given he's history and our current injuries. Still has decent pace and great size.
Kiwi tried he's guts out and also had a few wins one on one. Slightly smaller in height and weight than KB but read the play well on several occasions. Thought he did ok.
KL is a tank. Loves the contest, has good pace, and marched he's way through traffic on many occasions. Like the whole team torched some of he's delivery but being windy and tight so I'm allowing some credits.
TOB has really put on some size and looks AFL ready body wise. Has good height (understand at 194 odd now) and played up forward with a few goals. Didn't quite impact the contest again on some occasions but tried hard. Just half a second behind maybe due to instincts or power. Still there's enough there to remain hopeful he has a role at AFL level.
Hardwick (pretty sure no.37) also has good size and belongs. Some poor turnovers but again maybe I'm being harsh. Certainly don't see turnovers like that from some of the VFL boys in the AFL thank god.
Langford looks ultra keen. Has some size now and he also thinks he belongs. Played on the flanks but didn't shirk any contests like he's brother. Again some poor disposal but made a contest. There's also something there with Lach. Great to see he's dad there too looking like he's just come from a catalogue shoot.
Dallas' disposal stood out at this level.
Miles was at he's elusive best but in the heavy contested traffic didn't stand out from what I could tell.
Overall a few goals down in defeat, due to some costly turnovers and kicking for goal.

Wow , you saw a few players differently to me and there's nothing wrong with that as reports like this are opinion based .

T.O i thought had one of his best outings , his hands in the marking contests the best iv seen from him and what he didn't mark he made sure came to ground . Really liked his game today .
Pitts is coming along nicely , nice tap work and a willingness to get his hands dirty at ground level on the follow up hold him in good stead going fwd. He's also a very good contested mark for a ruckman . A lot to like and work with .
The player that had my attention again was Stewart , all aboard is all ill say , played on a wing and showed it all ..
Pace
Goal sense
Aggression
Good disp both by hand and foot .
Endurance
KB was solid down back , read the ball in flight well taking a few good marks and used it well when he won it .
Was hoping for more from Dimma , don't get me wrong as he was solid its just that i hoped he might really push hard for selection next week today but his game didn't do that .
Willsmore is a nothing player ...

Thanks M1. Really like the way LL is coming along. Let him slow burn at BHH and see what we got at seasons end.

BHH may lose more often this year but from a HFC perspective will be great to watch the emerging players be forced to take more responsibility.

He did it right in front of me. Was one of those nothing things, just from kicking the ball.

I get more impressed by Pitto each time I see him, we have one here I reckon. Took a few good marks today.

Nothing more to add that others haven't said except JML surprised me a little today, died out of it at times, but when he did get involved he was well involved in the first half.

Our forward set up, esp in the third term into a tiny breeze was a farce, you'd think we were kicking into a gale with how high our forwards started. The amount of times we'd get it to 2 meters past center wing and there was nothing ahead to kick to was embarrassing from a structural point of view, keep this in mind when reading reports about TOB and other forwards, horrible set up for a marking forward.

That is terrible to read, makes me worry and hope it isnt an issue the medical staff could have averted or detected...

Regarding pitto he is such an exciting prospect...

Spot on Dasher. TO had a really good game with some strong lead ups and marking and good finishing. Pitto was very good in the ruck and his follow up work was really strong. His game in the AFL was no doubt beneficial as he showed an improved confidence and impacted on a game. Stewart was very good with his ball handling, disposal particularly by foot and his ability to read the game. KB was solid down back and took some strong marks playing in front. His progress is encouraging especially given he is coming off missing a year of footy.

Lovell was in and under and solid. Kurt competed hard but on a number of occasions he misread the flight of the ball and reacted slowly. Before Burton was injured he showed his class with a beautiful kick into the forward 50. The fact that Ryan stood on the boundary in the second half will hopefully indicate the injury was more about a knock than any damage. Dimma competed strongly but wasn't able to get into the game. Miles was OK but I'm looking for improvement in his second year. JML and LL did some good things but need to build up their endurance to perform more consistently. In thought Willsmore was underwhelming - failing to make a positive impact or impression; disappointing.

Disappointingly I was previously misinformed about the injury to Zac Monkhorst as today I was advised he suffered a broken ankle.

What is the problem with this fella, he has all the assets to make it.

I really liked the tackle he rode on the wing before kicking the ball forward, showed some strength.

Not sure why we kept Wilsmore on the list, clearly isn't going to make the grade. Would've thought last year was enough to make a judgement call.

Not saying the cupboard is bare but if some of the high risk picks don't work out we are in trouble. Kurt has intensity in spades but lacks skills. Spank, Webster, WhiteX and Woody have suspect bodies. Willsmore, TO and Sicily all have AFL skills, all seem to lack a bit of intensity. Given the shape of our list we have no option but to stick with these guys and try and find their ON buttons.

Compared to most other clubs, the cupboard is rather bare.
When we fall we will fall hard for a couple of years.
Not necessarily poor recruiting, just the result of five years in the top 3.

Unfortunately I think you're right on the money there..

Add to that that our cap is currently at almost 100%. So it will be a challenge to fill up that cupboard.

Sorry about the quality of these pics and how few there are, but I dropped my camera lens first onto the concrete, had the water girl for the opp decide they needed water every time I raised my camera so she could run in front of me smiling, so I included her on here since she wanted her pic taken so bad. All in all had a shocker with the camera gave up and went and sat in the grandstand.

I'm stoked to come on here and see ppl's review the BHH games!

I saw Kade Stewart's u18's highlights, and he looks like a jet provided his size doesn't hold him back; took several clips for me to see what his preferred kicking foot was!

Can't really comment on the other boys, but look fwd to reading more reviews in the future!
