Totally agree. Ever since he moved back from the wing Harry has been comfortable and certain in his role. He is strong, a great tackler and one of the best kicks in the team.
One of my faves.

Nick Smith was never dropped after 2010
Nick Smith was an all australian (should've been multiple)
Nick Smith was top 10 best and fairest (multiple)

2020 List, Game Plan and Best 22?
IMO pieces need to be thrown around. Now is the time to do it. So many blokes are out of form it's unbelievable (See: Cunningham


IMO cunningham isn’t much chop one on one, so can’t see him ever being a Smith. That’s more likely to be COR. Either wing or pressure forward for Cunningham but he’d wanna have more impact if he’s gonna play those roles

He has real leg to create some run on the wing, good foot skills to deliver inside 50, but all the right traits to play as a small forward. Loves to chase and harass, good kick for goal, can find space for himself inside 50. I always saw him being a pressure forward.

I'm rewatching the 2020 season as we speak and Cunningham has been great. Combined with his 2021 season I think he has put two stellar seasons together as a small defender. I already said their careers are not comparable, Cunningham wasn't even a lock in the team til his mid-20's, so not sure what listing Smith's accomplishments is about.

I'm also not sure what the purpose of quoting old comments is. I'm sure it's supposed to be a "gotcha" type of thing, but the whole point of me bringing Cunningham up was to acknowledge his performance, having not done so so much in the past. Opinions can change and I don't believe mine are important enough to accompany with PSAs declaring a change of mind.

So Cunninghams 2020-21 while 'not contributing, being soft, should be dropped, shouldn't even play out of defense' is as good as the best footy Nick Smith played (while achieving All-Australian status and winning Premierships)

How many goals did Smith get kicked on him in any 2 year period of his career and how many has Cunningham the last 2 years ? I was not the originator of the comparison and then I did compare them which is probably unfair on Cunningham as he is not always in that backpocket role and is at times up on a hb flank or wing. As far as a specialist small defender aka back pocket not fit to carry Smith’s bag.

Nick Smith is an all-time favourite of mine but I think sometimes we make out like he was defending small forwards while painting the Sistine Chapel. There's nothing particularly complicated about being a small lockdown defender. I think no one did it better than him, plenty did it as well as him, none did it for as long and as consistently as him. I personally think Cunningham's last two years would have him in the 'did it as well as him' category. Which still would not have his career anywhere near Smith's. We might have to agree to disagree though if you think there's such a chasm between them. It's a weird topic for people to get up in arms about. It's not like I said we should take Smith out back and have Harry shoot him.

C88 does not fall into that category as he always puts forward an opinion with reason. Right or wrong. Fwiw I’m with you as I will say for the last time Harry Cunningham as improved as he is as a small defender is not fit to carry Nik Smiths Bag.

I think we all agree Smith was a primo small defender.

I think we all agree Cunningham is much improved and is a valued member of our current defence.

FWIW, I don't think Cunningham's last couple of years are up there with Smith's best. Cunners being a current favourite of mine, Smith an all time favourite of mine. But reading this exchange does feel like headbutting a brick wall and it's not from C88's view. C88 has flat out agreed at times, and is still being told he's completely wrong.

I saw a United Australia Party poster where Clive Palmer said he was going to make Australia great again. Really ambitious and that's what our country needs right now so I think at the next election I'm going to vote for the Unite- Oh I see.

I can only think of two occasions where Australia has been truly great.

September 24, 2005 & September 29, 2012.

Other than those, we as a nation need to lift our game.
