Game Day Practice Match up in QLD v the reigning premier

Pre season is almost never a guide to the real season.

A few fluffed kicks aside from Murray, I thought we looked fairly sharp going into round 1. Nice to play some good opposition in a practice match.

Soligo looking really good again. Always thought he had Neale vibes, but I'm slowly changing my mind on that. Not really sure who he reminds me of now. Very classy and balanced.

Nank again just shows he's 100% an afl player who should spend zero time in the Sanfl. Has pretty much every tool you need. Good in the air, 1v1 on the ground, very elusive, makes good decisions and executes his skills.

Worrell our best defender.

Hinge and ANB improved as the game went on.

Peatling and Cumming also impressive. Use the ball well.

Draper some good signs. Made good decisions, which is something I'm sure we'll be watching closely.

The first quarter I was thinking it was more of the same as last year, literally nothing looked any different to the rubbish we played last year.

Luke Pedlar was good, getting space at half forward but his disposal is garbage sometimes.

Sid Draper looked a cut above the rest of our mids.

Some nice Worrell intercepts. Hugh Bond has to play, just a brick who wont let you get the football.

Laird can go back and play with his mate Smith in the SANFL.

I liked Keane and Murray trying to take risks with the ball, didn't come off a lot but the conditions weren't conducive for that stuff.

I liked Peatling, ANB and Cumming getting around the ground. ANB's experience is huge for us moving forward, those 2nd rounders will be worth it and more.

The best thing was Brisbane had a dip last night a week out from their first game. Some great opposition 2 weeks from the opening round.

If this is the standard of umpiring, we are in for a rough year.

Eric Hipwood sucks but the delivery is elite, the Ashcroft boys and Lohmann are Jets and Neale is a superstar. Powerful side who will be there again this year.

Sid Draper is going to be a 12+ year Crow and a gun. Im not even a Crows fan.

And Im all good for Crows players showing emotion, I know some in social media have bagged them for that but it shows the players care about what is going to happen in 2025. Also is it me or alot of the players looking more fitter this season?

Where did Crouch play the rest of the time?

Was mentioned after the game that they will all play sometime forward.
I don’t recall seeing Crouch forward last night. What was his game time do we know?

I mean I'm all in on Draper, but a cut above ??

Dawson was our BOG, Peatling was fantastic

No sure if its been mentioned, but I actually think this week is a lost opportunity not giving McAndrew a run against the Big O.

Oscar is one of those ruckman that ROB seems to get owned by. An ultra tall, long armed player with a huge reach and enough of a jump to consistently reach over the top of Rielly.

Would have been a good opportunity to see if our plan B is actually a player who can compete against that type of ruckman. Because I can't remember too many good games from our Plan A against the Big O, or Witts, or Gawn, or English.
I thought ROB beat the Big O last night.

I agree, leaving out McAndrew was the biggest mistake of our selection for this trial. We needed to see how he would go in as real a setup as possible. What strengths/ weaknesses and what level does he go at against real oppo.
He's our backup ruck.

We need to get ROB ready, we're not running the backups at this stage.

Think people are forgetting he was fresh vs the rest as well. Love the kid but..

There's not enough football to go around for Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Walker and Curtin to all succeed up forward. Someone will get ignored, or end up doing the unrewarded running to clear space for others.

Structure-wise hopefully we encourage Curtin into that mythical high half forward role, pushing up to the stoppages. Because he can actually play, this would become an asset.

Didn't see any of it as I was getting my live goblin and pirate metal fix at the Gov, what's the TL;DR on this one?

Did Brissie look like they were playing hard? How did we go against their midfield?

I see we came from behind to win at the end, was it a case of practice match cue in the rack, or did we genuinely run the game out better?
