Scans have confirmed that Richmond midfielder/forward Sam Lalor has sustained an undisplaced hairline fracture of his jaw following a collision late in yesterday's match simulation.

Lalor will have surgery to aid his recovery, with a timeline of his return to play to be clearer at a later stage. It is still hoped that he will be available for the Round 1 game against Carlton on March 13.

The 18-year-old has also entered the concussion protocols, with the Club having already ruled him out of next Wednesday's Charity Shield clash against Collingwood.

Richmond will monitor Lalor closely over the coming period and provide a further update on his recovery when available.

Looked like Lalor tried to minimise contact for both players by using his hands to absorb the shock...Elbows and forearms next time, the young fella has to learn it's him or them.
The contact looked quite innocuous but the shove was deliberate and caused a head injury, so the WCE player has to go.

I don’t think what Ginbey did was completely malicious or anything. But it says more about the bloke that he didn’t even come over to check on Sam at all after the play was dead

I think it will either be 3+(careless conduct, severe impact, high contact) weeks or 0. It's not an incident that fits nicely within the table of offences so the AFL can massage however they see fit.

If they're serious about protecting the head then it should be 3 weeks but we know the AFL pick and choose when that applies.
