b. You say the AFL has committed acts far worse than VISY. This is not only false, but see point a/ for why it is wrong aynway.
I don't know which is worse, but the AFL has constantly colluded to fix prices and abuse its monopoly position. And Graham Samuel himself was behind most of it.

Theres a very simple solution nutcase and if you are so ashamed go follow another club because this one and its supporters turn you off..... Im sure youre original post should have read PRATT MUST RE-SIGN

He has fixed a penis to his head !!!

:p

Ha ha ha

Very good.

Is that the same Roy Morgan organisation that told us the Sydney Swans had the most supporters? The same one that had Paul Keating winning the 1996 Federal Election? The same one that had Mark Latham winning the 2004 Federal Election? Lies, damn lies & statistics.

Kennet winning the 99 election?

ok I am sorry for upsetting u all

also sorry for hating white collar crime

sorry for not wanting the biggest price fixer in australian history as our president and most importantly off all....

sorry for caring about the image of Carlton

cheers

How disappointing that Carlton fans would even think of this.
What's more disappointing is that people cannot seperate a football club's dealings from personal/business dealings. I can understand non-Carlton supporters because they would love to see us fall over again, but Carlton people. Disappointing and LONG LIVE the "Pratt Pack".

Who cares Parrott. There are probbaly other athletes out there who are doing drugs on a larger scale than Ben Cousins. Does that justify doing drugs? No matter whether other companies are doign it or not it doesn't make it right. 36 mil fine is evidence he has done somethign very wrong. Every person i spoke to about this that does not have a vested interest says that the only reason Pratt is not going to gaol is b/c Australian law is slow to catch up. I am ashamed of the Carlton fans on this thread all of who have defended Pratt except for one. I guess what those oppositions supporters say is true. You all really don't care what these guys do as long as they bring in the money. SHAME SHAME SHAME

You are right Surrey ...

I am starting to think honestly that Nutcase isn't even a Carlton fan, why would he start such an illogical thread, after all the good Pratt has brought to the club ..

Why would someone write such a damaging statement if they loved the Carlton footy club ??

Funny, that's exactly what I said about you.

I am struggling to find one positive thing you have posted about the Carlton Football Club. Most of your posts are negative and verging on being anti-Carlton.

Now my problem is, should I go with my gut feeling or should I listen to my heart and believe you really are a Carlton supporter who really loves the club and just venting his frustration.

LMAO:D:D:D:D

I have you pegged Nutcase. Its been one year I've been reading these threads and I can now see the pattern.

Come on Blue Baggers, hear the sanctimonious breast beating, feel the high moral ground being staked out, the moralising, the sermonising and lecturing.

Nutcase, henceforth you are named and shamed as the troll otherwise known as "The Fireman".

Now go ride your miniature high horse off into the sunset.

Rather than focusing on the negatives, why don't you have a look at the good he has done. Not just for the Carlton Football Club, but for society in general. He has donated more money than you will ever see. Plus, he has owned up to the fact that he did the wrong thing, and he took the punishment on the chin.

HBF, I would love to agree with your suggestions of generosity by Mr Richard Pratt:) if it were not for the fact that he was only being generous with other peoples money - the money he fleeced from the Australian public, estimated to be in the MUTLI-MILLIONS!:(
Secondly, Yes, he did own up - but only AFTER he was caught by the ACCC. Not good enough for someone who was in the past bestowed with the Australian honors, AC,AO.

What a load of old horse crap.

This debate lacks any independent thought.

The price fixing was set at a minimum amount charged for the boxes and not "poach" each others customers. Now there had previously been a price war between the two and this was put in place to end that war. This is the cartel behaviour which is being spoken of.

The prices were fixed at what has been described as a 20% increase since 1999. This means that despite petrol prices rising by as much as %100 since that time, the box prices have not even kept pace with this. Housing prices have rise by almost 220% since that time, something many consider vastly more burdensome on the average person than the paltry figures related to a card board box.

Further to this consider the implications of a price war and its ultimate conclusion, Visy would have won, no doubt, then there would be a monopoly with prices sky rocketing, or the government applying the usual measure and involving its own cartel measures of setting the price which is ALWAYS above the market norm.

The government in collusion with the housing industry has been foxing the house price market through land banking, rate price fixing, home grants and negative gearing for 15 years and no one has said a bloody thing despite it being one of the biggest burdens on young Australians in outside the great wars. Friggen joke !

Ultimately the prices which have been fixed were no where near the inflation we have endured in other areas of the economy, nor what we will endure when China's middle class starts to awaken (the last twenty years of low inflation are a direct result of China's manufacturing boom, when their middle class rises we are all going to get the rug pulled from under us, book mark it, we have all up crap creek without a paddle due to our personal greed). The Visy price fixing scam was merely an agreement to not put each other out of business and set a fair price and not poach each others customers.

The rest of it has been a complete media blow out. The reaction of the politicians is evidence enough, an unconsidered shoulder shrug at best.

People (the judge included) are rattling on about other countries laws, and how it wouldn't be tolerated. Yet the U.S., the one he singled out, had the mafia running their recycling in New York, has the Vice President being the major shareholder in a no tender contract for the largest milityary supplier in an illegal war ?!! WTF !

85 policy advisor's (writing and enacting legislation) through the executive and legislative branch of the U.S. Bush Administration were former industry lobbyists in their current field. And you consider a duopoly preventing a price war to be more immoral. A price war which the government would go to great lengths to prevent as it ultimately results in a restriction of competition and higher prices (DER !!) (See the reduction in the number of Banks, media owner ship etc, etc, etc for evidence of your life being screwed by lack of competition and price fixing).

To bring up the U.K. is just farcical, the PM enacted a 200 year old veto clause to prevent an enquiry into a bribe paid by the House of Saud into the 50 billion dollar contract to deliver the Euro Jet.....nothing illegal there, but oh, Pratt has to go to Jail.

You have no idea people. You are left gaping at what you are drip fed while you barely flinch at unfathomable abominations are carried out. Unless you are told when and how to react, you remain seated like the lobotomised automatons you are.

When someone can put up the relative costs of inflation on these boxes, the impact of higher oil prices etc, the international prices of boxes etc, lreative to the prices charged in the various industries along with the capital costs over the period along with any other incendiaries, then maybe, just maybe we can have a discussion over Visys activities. And throwing up the $700 million dollar money grab by a no win no fee ambulance chasing grubbers then don't hold your breath for a response.

Get a grip.

No-one is above the LAW. And your long-winded "independent" argument waffled on with little or no consideration for the legal system in Australia. (Let alone an understanding of economics)
If you have a problem with the way we live in Australia, may I suggest that you remain in London?

Aaaaaaahhhhh!
How funny is it to see the Carlton supporters arguing with each other.
It's like a civil war!

Let's face it, if it wasn't for Dick Pratt, Carlton would be heading to the Gold Coast or folding!

That's funny coming from the supporter of a club whose president sold them out to the Tasmanian Government.

Time to card this troll mods

The truth hurts does it? U could ban me from this forum but that won't change anything. Pratt is still a thief and u have defended him. I bet if he wasn't associated with Carlton u would be screaming blue murder like most other Australians. But just b/c he is doing some good for Carlton your sense of right and wrong goes straight out the window. Have no fear this will hurt Carlton. If Pratt really cares he resigns

Your use of emoticons and poor spelling almost had me convinced.

How is Pratt being generous with other people's money when the price fixing occurred between 2001 and 2004?

He built up Visy into a successfull business over decades and was already a billionair before the price fixing started.

I guess you're saying Pratt became a billionaire and made all his money in those four years?.

They've already been fined $36 million (which, I might add was $4 million less than the maximum figure they could have been fined) and are facing a class action.

The money will come out of Pratt's pockets, not your's or mine.

Stop being such a drama queen and a whiny bitch.

Your club would take Dick Pratt's money ahead of Dick Smith's on everyday of the week.

Why should Dick re-sign as President when the offences were three years ago and he pleaded guilty?

He isn't in the same class as Elliott who was a poor business men who bankrupted every company he was involved with, traded whilst insolvent and left everyone high and dry.

There isn't one good reason why he should leave Carlton when it isn't football related.

It won't hurt Carlton.

I'm all for his company being fined, and all for any victims seeking redress in civil courts. He'll take his lumps in civil court and good luck to the plaintiffs. That doesn't mean he has to go live in a cave, wear sackcloth and eat ashes to please fools like you. You're attempting to apply penalties above and beyond the laws of the land and to discount every good he has done and will do, which makes you a tool. The fact that you're pushing your barrow so eagerly also makes you a troll.

Trolls get banned, even ones with pretend Carlton accounts.
If Pratt really cares he resigns
If he, or anybody else for that matter, has any sense, or indeed care for the club, he won't take advice from ********s like you.

I would be very careful nutcase referring to someone as a thief as I dont think the fine imposed on Visy can be seen to infer that anyone on the board is a thief .... its called slander and you are treading the line and im sure your anonymity will be exposed if you keep up with your line of slander by the very nature of your threads ... so let the appropriate punishment be handed by the regulators...and its time you had your pills and went to bed ..
