Don't think there's anything wrong with drinking solo at the pub but don't think I could do it.

Can barely eat by myself without having to listen to podcasts.

When the GF and mother got their hair done/nails done/some spa thing done in Bali I'd stop by the closest place and have a couple Bintangs while watching the world go by.

When I lived in the London, if we had nothing on, the missus would drag me to one of big shopping centres. I could usually handle 30 mins of wandering around aimlessly why the missus shopped. Luckily the shopping centre had a pub and I would head there and have a couple of pints by myself reading one of the daily papers. The missus came and grabbed me when she was ready to go home.

It was not a bad way to spend a afternoon and I was not the only one in the boozer doing the same thing.

Drinking at a franchised mall pub sounds pretty depressing. Akin to airport bars or those hellholes in Melbourne Central. Nah seriously I've become less snobby about pubs these days.

I do feel like British pub culture is dying out a little bit. Quaint little pubs where everyone knows the barman, and he's pouring Tetleys with a pump. Unfortunately it's all dried up counter meals at Wetherspoons pubs I think. A similar thing has happened in Australia where you either have total dumps or shiny stainless steel joints where you're forced into James Squire at $12.10 a pint for an easy pale ale.

While travelling I probably engaged in some pretty destructive and embarrassing behaviour. I didn't get bonafide sloshed by myself but when I was in Berlin, everyone I went to a bar with was checking out the next morning, so I was hanging out by myself every day and then wanting a beer which I had to have alone at 4pm. Jagermeisters is so cheap there so I was grabbing something from Kebab Baba (the best place in Berlin. Easily), four Bitburgers, and one of the shot sized Jager bottles. Doing that every arvo for four nights was pretty lame – shots is too much.

Either you live in Ringwood or Point Cook because I don't think there has ever been more choice in Australia, well in Melbourne at the very least to drink at quality pubs.

I know there is a different, but Australia has had a pub feel too.

Proper pub feel to me is a place that feels sort of homely and old-fashioned. If you've been to the All Nations in Richmond, that's the best way to describe it. Those sort of places which to me are really enjoyable, and a nice throwback to days gone by have been replaced by different sorts of pubs. People my age in particular will hardly ever venture near a place like that.

Just don't smoke weed solo every day, that's when you end up depressed and a shell of a person. I have nothing against marijuana fundamentally but this idea it's some cool, zany, creative drug that should be celebrated is beyond me. I have more respect for a girl swapping cuddles with her best friend once a month at a club, than I do for some pseudo-tweed wearer who's basically listening to the same album they always do but going through pangs of angst, neurosis, and fatigue while doing so. I know a few people with zero interests outside of ******-level Bush Doofing and scummy sharehouse facebook page politics as a result of smoking cones every single night. They're impossible to converse with and very, very odd when you manage to.

Off topic, but still relevant; daily weed smoking has got to be one of the more corrosive, paralysing activities of all time. I spent most of last year high as kite and although it seems enlightening at first, it becomes a major impediment. As you've mentioned, your habit patterns stay the same - same music, same movies, same opinions. You get stressed for no reason and you wake up groggy and grumpy.

There's no doubt the first times you get high with your mates are some of the best experiences you'll have, but once it becomes routine it lures you into a bit of a black hole. It's also a seriously expensive pursuit; I was spending upwards of $50 a week on dope. Plus, there's no chance of leaving the house once you've gone down the rabbit hole. At least when you're drinking you're up for a bit more adventure and haven't entered the safety zone.

I'll still have a cheeky Friday spliff with a few mates, but it certainly isn't what it used to be.

Yeah I've only smoked a few times. Honestly compared to other things, I don't rate it too highly, although yet to really give it a crack on my own.

Couldn't imagine sitting at home daily though. There's a lot of truth in the stoner stereotype I think. Had a mate who was smoking fairly heavily last year and he wasn't much fun to be around for several months.

THC hasn't developed in your brain. I didn't feel the high till the third or fourth time I smoked up.
