Hampson is a ridiculously good athlete, I just wish the penny would drop with him.

Hopefully Mabior lights a fire inside him.
Hampson is a monster of a man, arms like tree trunks but as many have said he looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane. May sound a bit of a joke but i at one stage questioned his eyesight, some of his worst bloopers suggest really poor hand eye coordination, his hands seem okay so that only leaves on thing.

Plays alright when he's injury free, problem is he seems to be injured constantly. One of those players where a small injury just turns him to shit.

I do agree to some degree but his size/development has helped him maintain his balance and momentum when being dragged from behind. That's why he is rarely successfully tackled.

He still has burst but now he has power and brute strength.

He needs to improve endurance. No one would argue that.
I would like to see him burst away then KEEP on running instead of just booting to a contest. If he keeps running we will retain the ball more.

I have a serious question that needs to be raised.
Where on earth is Sarah Hart?

Actually, Hampson did have problems with his eyesight at Carlton. He was shortsighted and had laser surgery to correct his vision in 2012.

Apparently Chris Yarran completed a big running session today on his own. Can anyone tell me what sort of work he did?
It wasn't a run. He was on a bike. And that bike has wheels. And those wheels have training wheels. And until he can prove to the Richmond playing group, leadership group, coaching group, management group, administration group, board group, the supporter group and the membership group that those training wheels are no longer required then he will just need to continue to use those training wheels until he pulls himself out of the fat group.

He just better bloody do it in time for round 1 so he can kick a couple snags from the boundary and give every one of those Carltoon flogs the bird on the way back to the half back flank. Kind of like that scene in "The Natural" when Redford hits a home run into the lights, and there's fireworks going off left, right and centre and everyone is going bananas in the stands about how amazing it is blah, blah, blah. Fecking Ace. Do it.

After my Chaplin rant today I decided to go to Footywire to understand where Chaplin went in the draft. And it got me on a tangent to understand how many first round picks we have on the list (yes, Chaplin was a first rounder):

2003 Chaplin #15

2004 Deledio #1

2006 Riewoldt #13

2007 Cotchin #2

2007 Rance #18 (priority)

2008 Yarran #6

2008 Vickery #8

2009 Martin #3

2009 Moore #9

2010 Conca #10*

2011 Ellis #15*

2011 Elton #26**

2012 Vlaustin #9*

2013 Lennon #12

2014 Ellis #12

2015 Rioli #15

Conca through to Ellis in 2011 were during the compromised drafts hence *. Elton has the ** he was taken at pick 26 which was declared in the first round for that year. Including Chaplin it means we officially have 16 first round picks on the list, 13 drafted to the club and 3 traded in.

Now, what does it mean? Well on paper (arguably) all but Rioli should be in the side as our best 22. Which means 15 of the first 22 are first round picks. Forgetting the bullshit of the compromised drafts, are there many other sides with that number of first rounders in their best 22 outside of GWS and maybe GCS (I haven't checked but assuming because the draft was analised over that time there's a whole other discussion to be had).

Opening up for discussion. Pre-season has been very ******* disappointing. Come at me you campaigners.

Righto, so I poked my head in at training again today. Really shitty trying to watch from through the fence next to the merch shop and I wont be doing it again. Anyway, here are some bits and pieces gathered from what I saw.

Yarran, Hampson, Batch, Griff, Morris and Drummond all restricted to running laps at various paces. The one that seemed closest to full pace was Drummond. There was no sign at all of Lids, McKenzie or Chaplin. Pretty sure I accounted for everyone else including all the rookies.

Despite the early rain yesterday, training was a dry affair but with a pretty strong breeze which noticeably affected kicking.

First drill looked like they were working on exit kicks from stoppages deep in defence. A ruckman (either Maric or McBean) would contest against the speccy bag tapping to players goal side of the contest who would quickly kick towards the vicinity of the boundary. Looked pretty scrappy to be honest.

Next drill, a few of the boys put in mouthguards and many of the mids were doing stoppage work with 2 players in blue vests trying to defend a stoppage against a ruck (Ivan or Soldo) and 4 mids. Notable inclusions in this group included Moore, Townsend and Vlaustin. No sign of Cotch or Titch. Townsend is a mongrel and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Based on what I saw, he would be ahead of Moore to get first crack at the inside enforcer/protector role. His skills are definitely better.

There were other all ground drills etc but my eyes starting glazing over and I pulled the pin and moved on.

The only other things of note:
- Lock Alex Rance in for his 3rd AA. He will improve again next year.
- Ben Lennon. Looking fit, sharp and aggressive. Knocked more than 1 bloke over throughout training.
- Marboi Chol. I'm not sure what the knock on this bloke was that saw him slip to the rookie draft but he has some really exciting traits. Clean hands, a big leap and a neat left foot kick. If we don't sponsor him, then I'll be filthy.

Was too hard to focus on too much. Hopefully I can give a bit more next week when I can sit in the Jack Dyer stand and write stuff as I go (and actually see whats going on). Feel free to ask questions but like last time, I probably wont be able to answer them.

I said it earlier but it looks like Lennon's core and hips have really filled out, his shoulders buffed up last season and we saw how much confident he was getting the footy.
If the same affect happens again and he starts hunting the ball we might have a brilliant big body to contest both in the air on he ground on the HFF.
