People had their knocks on Newman but I was always settled with his shot on goal and with his sweeping in defence right to the last.

Likewise I like Grigg. He was until late the ghost player. You didn't notice what he did on ground but he was doing plenty. Then he swapped with the role Conca would have played. I like the communication between Grigg and Deledio.

I'm expecting a lift just in communication with those who've been on our team a while.

Putting aside our new recruits, I'm expecting maturity of our group to be a big plus this year.

It's about roles and position on field in a given situation and I think we have a solid core of players that know that now.

That and a influx of players who could impact from the get go and then I think we've a really competitive team come 2016 season.

I just want to see every player on our list play at least 1 NAB game. Guys like Conca will probably need to play all of them
Exactly my thinking.
Not stressed about the nab challenge at all as long as good form is shown by the players who are inclined to take the next step this season.

Agree to disagree I guess. I hope neither of us are proven right or wrong and he has an injury free year. We need more inside grunt and he has that. If he has a string of games on the trot, who knows what will happen to his confidence.

His physical appearance this season hopefully means everything is stronger and less susceptible to injuries.
When conca plays there is no doubt we play better as a team, he is not only an inside midfielder he also adds a bit of class and speed, his around the ground kicking is also quite impressive. Year of the hugger

I thought we were gonna play our full side from nob cup rd 1 this year, cos they played 1 nab game in the past 3 years for bad regular season starts and 3 elim finals exits in a row.

pretty sure I read this somewhere, that we were gonna play our experienced side from nob 1 this year..... god forbid, we might actally win a few early games in the season proper if we did this :drunk:
We've done both and started like shit irregardless.

hate them all
Usually I think it's the 2nd game more of the wannabes get a run. So my guess would be many of those wont get a run game 1. Although how many on a team?...especially for WA?
Cotch, Rance, Dusty, Jack will all play IMO.
no chance NAB1. they will be in Melb when the game is on.

Rance maybe as he may want to go back to WA to visit family, plus he had a shorter preseason, but as for the rest I doubt we'll see them week 1 of the NAB
They'll play a very young squad for Round 1, then start bringing the senior players into the side for weeks 2 & 3
this, we generally play all kids NAB 1 then filter the players in, NAB 3 will pretty much be Rd 1 side. pretty much anyone fit that doesn't play an of the games will spend the yr in the VFL

personally for nab 1 and 2 i would like to see a decent balance between our better players and juniors.Get enough good players around the juniors and give them a chance to shine rather than just throwing a whole pile of them to the wolves and when they inevitably struggle have an excuse to not play them.
I would also like to see some of our running players in particular tried in different roles.McIntosh of hb, Vlastuin as a mid Houli on a wing and so forth.
i don't mind throwing them in, 1 or 2 that may not be in the running for games this yr may play well & put thier hand up for Rd 1.

Might alter a little this year. Play a few more experienced guys against the hawkies at beacy then send mostly kids too WA. last game make it look a little more like round 1
