The point I'm making is, that to completely dismiss DAICOS as having NO talent, is completely off the mark, and undermines the credibility of the "contact" and should have been reported in that way accordingly by Northpie.

To me this same contact has an axe to grind by bagging Daicos. Who knows what his motivation is.
It was Blair I tell ya!

For home and away or pre season matches I get that, but an intra club that’s effectively a simulation with tackling? Well for that I dip my lid to you!

The current regime have robbed me of that same raw passion I once had for the club. I tolerate the lows because that’s professional sport, but the way the clubs run these days that primal connection I once had is gone because the hope is manufactured.

Maybe it’ll return when I have kids of my own, but for now I couldn’t think of anything worse than 2 + hrs of driving on a hot February night when I could stream it on a 60 inch TV and sink piss from my living room.
Still yet to decide if I'll go this year but better than 50/50. I like the relaxed atmosphere at the IC games and it's generally the 1st opportunity to check out a few of the new kids. Holden Centre isn't a great venue and it means battling peak hour traffic across the city, the early start may be the deciding factor.

In the same boat lol, already been hooked up but haven’t been forced onto it yet thankfully.
Same boat. Been available here since about March but having made the swap yet. Bendigo internet service is deplorable and NBN hasn't done much to upgrade it unless you opt in for the top end speed packages.

I would disagree. Have spoken to lots of AFL people over time and found them mainly pretty free with their opinions and ready to chat. A lot of competitive types and a lot of egos and often as ready to bag someone they don't like as to tell you of their own feats...
So true. Footy board members are perhaps the least discreet - after a few drinks, many can't help themselves and enjoy being the centre of attention.

I personally have the high speed packages with cable anyway but honestly it comes down to line congestion and packet loss, you’d hope that NBN is better on both accounts but....

My experience is that as well.
People LOVE to talk.
Just simple human nature.

I’m with GC in that Northpie wouldn’t have shared if it weren’t what he/ she were told.

My thinking would be that the list management group have NFI what they’re doing at the best of times (we all remember the Mayne “mix up”) so how on earth would an unnamed player know 10 months out? Yeah him getting chopped might be a possibility, but if he comes out and averages 4-5 goals a game at VFL level and shows something at the next level I doubt he gets the snip!

On Daicos’ talent no one has actually taken that seriously I assume? Talent is the most subjective thing to gauge in sport or life in general.

People’s views can wildly differ on players. For instance Cox has less talent than most posters on this board, IMO. He in no way has the talent to succeed at the top level. What he has though is unique attributes and the right mindset! That will take you a long way, but if his talent were even moderate he’d be a multiple AA by the time he retires. The counter argument to my POV on Cox is that people will swear black and blue that he’s gotten to where he is on his natural talent which hasn’t been realised fully yet because he’s late to the game. They may even argue that those attributes and his mindset form part of his talent.

The thing is both POV’s are accurate to a degree because there’s no right or wrong to assessing talent it’s only a best guess because even the greatest professionals get it completely wrong!
The "if he doesn't come on this year he won't get a new contract" can equally be applied to any new player at the club who is up for contract renewal so I'd assume context would be key.

I guess it depends on what kind of social awareness we’re looking at. I guess in my optimistic way I hope that people who have specific PR training against this kind of stuff would help stamp it out.

Gone Critical, can’t say I’ve talked to plenty but generally they seem competitive, yes, but also genuinely loving of the club and their job. Potting a coach or an opposition player is one thing, but a teammate I feel a bit hard to accept as common practice. Simply, if that’s your attitude you should not be playing a team sport as you’ll never make it.
I'd say it's not common to absolutely bag your team mates as such, on that you're right.
But to make a passing comment, they might do at that.

Eg the way John Smith is going he just isn't applying himself enough. Might be gone if he doesn't grab his chances.

(Then to put himself in the best light: I've even offered John smith to do extra training with me, he hasn't done it.)

Doesn't mean it's in a harsh tone, might just lack subtlety etc.

Colomobo's got nothing if you mean your bolded quote above G C.

The only thing my in depth analysis gets from that is he "may" be a friend or relative of yours??
Well I do know northpie reckons he was the best footballer in his family but that can be disputed. Suffice to say it also proves there are no Collingwood footballers running around in his family if he is in the consideration of the best.

I don't know the player he is talking about but he is a good player, definitely best22.

Oh Mrs Columbo she just loves football, my wife.
Loves the game. That's how I know all the players.
Has it on all the time.
Me? No....
I just eat a chilli bowl and concentrate on my job.

And you know what, it's the little things. It's the little things that keep me up at night.
My wife, awww she sleeps through anything. Mrs Columbo, she's a sound sleeper.

Oh and my cousin Vinnie, he also loves football. Knows everything about every Daicos that ever played. Told me there has been two of them. The father.... great, great.... great player. I have to take his word for it.

Totally agree with this. Met plenty of them over the years and some of them are very quick to tell you all sorts of information and bagging out team mates is pretty bloody common.

The tales from former (now retired) players about their former team mates is even worse!

That obvious? Hasn’t been mentioned this off-season and no injury news either. It grinds my gears that a guy like Blair gets slagged off, but by and large this guy escapes the same level of criticism.

Again though it’s SUBJECTIVE it is not black and white.

I don’t agree with the POV, but I can at least acknowledge that because it involves the surname Daicos it automatically makes it taboo with some so I’m out.

It was never about Daicos per say IMO - it was simply a question of the motivation of a guy bagging a players talent against all available evidence, and opinions to the contrary.
