Training Pre-season 2026

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

He may well prove to be the failure you're saying, but for me, he’s shown so far to be a decent small forward AT TIMES. Always seemed to fade in games, and needs to kick a few more goals imo.

Having watched the training videos and the comments from Caesar on PRE, who attends most training sessions, it appears on face value that the penny has finally dropped with Rioli, and he’s the fittest he’s ever been at this time of the pre-season.

My only worry is how he comes back after the Xmas break, but I’m hoping he does what he did after the AFL season ended, get involved with a personal trainer and work his ass off. Apparently, he has been up the front in some of the full ground running drills at training, so hopefully his endurance has reached the levels required to perform at AFL level. If it has, and he fails to perform again this year, then yep, he will be gone I’d reckon. But until then, I’ll support him.
He is on our list, so I’ll sit back and judge his performance in 2026 and make an assessment then. I don’t think he’s good enough but I want every player on our list to succeed, but we know that’s not reality.

Outside of his chat with Rhy all he does is summarise other people’s content. He needs to create his own brand and content to be of any interest to me.
OK. How about you don't watch it.

And then not comment on it and him.

Just as a guide so we all know which players you have written off
This is bullshit. If a player is on your list he has the opportunity to succeed and show what he can deliver. You want me to put out a list just so you can say I was wrong. Okay for you I’ll name:
Sonsie
Rioli
Ralph-Smith

There are a couple more I won’t name as I need to see a little more of them.

Retirements I won’t go into as performance will probably determine that.

It’s very early days for our young mids.

Remember, Naicos played more than a season off half back before being deployed into midfield. Scheezel more than 2 x seasons. Ed Richards and Hayden Young more than 5….Heeney about 7, NWM 4 years, and so on …

I agree with not wanting to see many CBA’s with all of TT, Prestia and Hopper in 2026 … but there’s also plenty of time to give midfield exposure, and if this means some youngsters attend very few CBA’s in 2026, doesn’t mean that’s their lot for their whole career.

Exactly.

All I am saying is that I hope we roll about 7 or 8 younger guys through. Not too much, but see what they do and what they can learn.

If we learn that MRJ adds a lot with his speed and pressure, then we've got something. If we learn that Sonsie has the tools, but not the wherewithal then we learn a useful thing. If Campbell shows enough that we know we can play him inside at times then awesome. And, of course, the 2024/25 draftees should get some time in the midfield. Enough to know what is required. Not enough to smash them about. So lots of time for these guys playing other roles. It's all about 2028 onwards

show me you haven't looked at the channel and are just making assumptions without telling me.

LOTW has just gone first.

Of the first 12 videos / lives that show on my channel right now, 1 of them is based on someone else info.

And me using someone else content or info to then give my own take and view on which is my own brand and content as a FYI, is no different to anyone starting a thread on the forums based on a journo or a club tweet that you then go and participate in.

thankfully though your tick of approval isn't high on my list of things I wish to achieve in 2025 and beyond.

Don’t be so sensitive. You know what I am saying is right.

You use PREs training reports, journo stories, other content creators info, RFC website news to create your videos. I can get all that info from the original source. I don’t need your summary.

Be original and it might just increase your views

You don't need my summary but yet here you are on a footy forum giving everyone your own summary and views based on topics derived from the media or the club in multiple threads on the exact topics that came from those exact external sources you speak of.

If you truly believed in what you're accusing me off you wouldn't post in any other thread other than ones you created yourself.

Interesting.

It's almost like that's how the content eco system works, and you're part of it without even knowing.

Again, inbox me whenever you're ready to jump on to a live show with camera / name on to discuss your points and we can go over whatever Richmond topics you want, would love to hear your take on it all!

This happens every post season, people get bored and just start arguing with each other for absolutely no reason.

Pick up knitting or something. Get off the forums for a little bit... Watch a new show. Start cranking the hog, I don't really know or care just do something else lol

Haha here comes the thought police again. Making YouTube videos in your garage and you act like you work for the club now.

People can say whatever they want about players despite it hurting your feelings, get over yourself.

Embarrassing post.
having a crack at someone who is putting in some effort to put some content out there for the tiger supporters who want it, whilst you sit on your fat arse pissing and moaning behind a keyboard. Good one champ!

Back on topic.

Jasper Alger will play Round 1 and be a best 22 lock from then on out.

I reckon this comes from a snowball effect of Seth pushing up a bit higher.

The biggest question for me is how do we use the 5th spot on the bench.

we are entering an area where we could go the extra mid / kid for more games and some speed around the ground, but that would leave us a bit exposed in the ruck area assuming Sims isn't playing early in the season.

Unless we are happy to go the Balta hybrid model again at times.

You can hear my take on here. I don’t need to appear on YouTube to feel good about myself or my opinion but keep up the good work 😀

Here’s a few ideas for you.
1. Get down to training yourself
2. Do a livestream from training
3. Interview media and journo about challenges in the future for Richmond. Not just other amateurs
4. Set up a selection night live panel chat
5. Do a live commentary of a VFL game
6. Get some diversity on your panel. Old boring white blokes ain’t that interesting

All these things I’d be interested in

The ruck rule changes will have an interesting impact. Generally you think they would favour a leaper. Nank has a distinct advantage over oppo rucks as he is left sided. He engages with his left leg raised and taps predominantly with his left hand. This hurts oppo rucks. They don't like it and have traditionally crossed the line under the old rules to engage him and nullify his jump. Our second ruck option will most likely be a leaper, so Noah would have to be a real option and Sims when he plays. The other might be Kelts.

No faith in Ryan Kiwi?

You could be on the money there.
He’s put on size, great foot skills/finisher , strong overhead.
The only query I have is endurance?
But even IF its an area he needs to work on, no better place to build on it than in the AFL system

1. Would love to, but I work a full time 9-5 job, have a wife and 3 kids and live over an hour away. so unfortunately not an option.
2. see point 1
3. think you will find most actually rather the views of another regular punter and are sick of the media. Happy to try it though.
4. already happens during the season
5. legally not allowed to unless I was invited to do it officially by the VFL / Club
6. I have invited you on 3 times and you are yet to accept. Outside of you not accepting, The Monday night show is a staple and that panel has worked well for years. There is a team selection night with tigs. then there is an opposition supporter show on the thursday. 3 shows, 3 different sets of people.

Plus the countless other guests from different clubs / channels / walks of life that come on for random videos / lives and I'd say it's fairly diverse.

Not at all saying it's for everyone, if you don't like it thats fine, I'm not here to change your mind.

enough about your obsession with me though, no one really needs to read about it.

get back onto the footy topic.

Who takes the 5th spot on the bench round 1?
