Ok now we have lost on Maguire, who will Carlton be picking in the Pre-season draft?

I reckon we should try get a pick to maybe take someone like Panos or Daw in the PSD so they can go straight onto the list instead of rookie list, I'm sure one of the reasons Hughes went for best available rather than talls is because he thought we'd get Maguire

We would have to cut someone to get a pick. Unlikely except if we effectively demote someone to the rookie list. Johnson was seen as an option but seems won't happen. To my mind Fisher would be the ideal choice as I don't see a spot for him in the ones barring injury. Others might suggest Wiggins but to me he is more likely to add something in the ones. Alternatively, could we look at shifting Tiller to the rookie list as he needs another year in the Ants I think. Could even more than one be shifted?

Time will tell I guess.

no point delisting anyone and then redrafting them as a rookie as we can elevate 2 rookies to the senior list at anytime because we have no veterens (like last year). Besides there is noone exceptional out there that we couldn't wait for the rookie draft anyway.
I'm sure they'll take a tall in the rookie draft and there are a few that didn't get drafted - Grimes, Panos, Hill, Casboult, Archer, Daw etc....

As someone else pointed out, the GC get a handful of selections in the RD. So the question is, would our 'project tall' last until effectively pick 17 or so?

Anderson would be my choice, if we had to make a demotion to the rookie list. Unlike Fisher, he'd be pretty close to minimum wage.

Russell Robertson could be a wild card. Might be able to squeeze the better half of the season out of him and he's still got the x-factor about him.

I personally think he's still got it in him to turn a couple of matches. He's only looking for a one year contract to boot, very little risk involved with him with a potential for high reward.

I could be wrong but I thought that you could only have 2 international Rookies/Veteran choices at one time. As we have 2 Int'l Rookies, wouldn't this rule out the elevation?

I am not going to criticize our drafting strategy even though I was surprised like many that we did not take a tall in this or last years drafts. Ive spoken to a recruiter from another club who was absolutely shocked (as some supporters and media are) that Carlton didnt pick up at least one tall in this draft. But obviously Hughes believes the players we picked up were the best at their pick. So I will trust him in that.

I am still concerned about our depth of talls. We let four go this year, either traded or delisted four KPP's in Fev/Cloke/Edwars/Hartlett and picked up one in Henderson. We had little depth in this area at the end of the year even with these four.

My concern is that we are relying too much on hope that our KPP stocks will be OK:

Will Warnock stay fit to allow Kruezer to play forward?
Can Kruezer become a quality KPP?
Can Henderson become a quality KPP?
Will Waite return to form after ACL surgery?
Will Ausin become a CHB?
Can Jammo play on the Gorillas (ie Brown, Fev, Hall etc)?
Will T-Bird and Bower stay fit all year?

To me these are still unknowns.

By all reports there may just be a couple of project talls that slipped through the national draft, My plea to Ratts and Hughes is to delist at least one (or two) player/s and pick up a young KPP in the PSD.

I am no expert and Hughes will know who is the best available but 1-2 of either Panos, Daw, Thorpe or Temel would be great.

Lets get the jump on the other clubs!!!

With only one live pick (Rich) currently in the PSD we could get the jump on the rest and get the best KPP available rather than waiting to pick 11 in the rookie draft.

It would not be good for club-player harmony to do the dirty on any player by delisting one so late. We still have too many good ordinary footballers on our list and with the concessions afforded to the newbies, I am afraid it is going to be a very long decade unless Henderson develops into a champion. Sorry for the pessimism boys - I hope it is just the result of my food poisoning :(
