Prediction Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) – who should get picked up?

The Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) runs from Wednesday January 6, 2021 until sometime prior to the start of the 2021 season.

It's an opportunity to rookie list any players who nominated for the draft but weren't selected, or anyone who has previously been on an AFL list, not including anyone who has signed up to a club academy for 2021 as a 19 year old.

Clubs must have an open spot on the rookie list in order to make use of the SSP rules (a spot can be created by moving a retired or injured player to the inactive list).

So we have a list of delistees here:

And a list of everyone who nominated for the draft in 2020 (although they'd also be eligible if they nominated in previous years):

Obviously anyone who has already been added to a club's list or academy over-agers I mentioned don't count, but I'm not sure where to find a list of those.

Do we know of anyone who has permission to train at clubs yet? Anyone you have your eye on and hope gets picked up?

Already one article: https://www.afl.com.au/news/528890/nine-clubs-14-spots-who-will-get-an-afl-lifeline-for-2021-

Official list of delistees: https://www.afl.com.au/news/retirements-and-delistings

In short: Nine clubs, 14 spots currently. Saints have 3. Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood have two. Carlton, North, Essendon, Port and Sydney have one. Adelaide may open one up (by placing Gibbs on the inactive list)

St Kilda are gonna be busy, could be like when we signed Marsh and Rowe a couple of years ago. Will almost certainly leave at least one spot for the mid-year draft. Hard to see what we'll do though, could consider giving a cut player like Marsh, Parker or Sav another shot.

Does the player choose which club to train at if he has multiple interest from clubs?

I reckon most clubs will just keep spots open for mid season draft instead and bypass SSP

track how players go in the first half of the year as opposed to training and prac match form
They could but the draft has an order and the SSP doesn’t, so if you know who you want in late pre-season it’s better to sign them then than wait for round 4 with potentially 17 other clubs having their choice before you do.

They might, but then with the SSP you can get a player in, see how they train and bond with the squad and skip the risk of someone else drafting them.

Sounds like one of Tom McDonald or Jono Marsh will get a spot at Carlton (both have been granted permission to train there)

Dogs have another list spot open with the immediate retirement of Sam Lloyd

Have you seen a permission to train list anywhere?
Nothing consolidated, just individual club mentions in different articles.

Expect the unexpected with Richmond as we have 2 spots and possibly 3 if Soldo is placed on the inactive list

Alex Rance & Cyril Rioli is a possibility ;)
