As a mature aged recruit you'd be better comparing him to some of the Barlow types who came in and had an immediate positive impact for their clubs.
Yeah fair point, Barlow certainly came in and started fairly well.

Gov Jr is another one, but his first year was mostly injury interrupted, before breaking through last year.

Point probably still remains that for 3rd rounder even mature aged, having immediate impact is more the exception rather than the rule.

Guess everyone was just hoping for the exception, I was.

More devastated for Willie than WCE

Agreed.

Mr Bas, is getting outrageously ahead of himself.

I was hoping.. not expecting for Rioli to debut round 1 and be an instant success, but chances are he comes in for 5 or 6 games at the end of the season shows a bit of magic and then really explodes next season :)

Take a deep breath buddy. We havent played with a genuine crumber for years. It just means the potential to cover a weakness has had a set back. The chances of Willie playing in the first half of the year were slim at best.
All good mate. I'm not getting wound up. Just stirring him up. ;)

Hopefully Rioli gets back in ten weeks, comes through the WAFL at EP.... injuries happen to Rioli's especially hamstrings. Cyril is managed through every season he has played , West Coast need to do the same with Willie .

Tahir Bayok is a long way off but maybe he could play a crumbing forward role one day ...IF he makes the grade to AFL level.

I think Willie will explode before next season

From the Hagdorn article on Rioli

While Rioli is certain to be sidelined well into the new season with his adopted outfit his fellow mature-age Eagles import Drew Petrie is poised for a stunning debut against his old club after crossing to West Coast as a rookie choice.

Petrie, 34, is understood to have controlled the ruck through a searching and rain-soaked Eagles intra-club showdown on Friday.

The 316-game for Kangaroo is believed to have rucked for long stints against another recruited big man Nathan Vardy and emerging ruckman-forward Fraser McInnes.

Petrie is tipped to start the extension of his decorated career sharing the ruck with Vardy as lead pair Scott Lycett and Nic Naitanui recover from knee surgeries.

Another handy backup big man Jon Giles continues to be troubled with knee soreness and also suffered a nasty hand injury last week and did not play the scratch match.
Two things - Firstly, Hagdorn has had a massive hardon for Petrie ever since talk first surfaced about him coming to West Coast so it's no surprise he's still pumping Drew's tyres

Secondly, I hope the talk coming from west coast that Lycett might be ready sooner than expected isn't a result of ongoing injury concerns for Giles. If were rushing Slyce back prematurely because Giles won't be ready I'll ******* spew

Agreed, don't want to see Slyce rushed back. Even without Giles, there are still options, with Vardy and Pettrie. Then going to worst case McInnes, Gov or Masten.

The intra club saw McGovern play in the forward line for most of the game with some time in the middle as well - Emac back to form will release him up the ground so much more.

FF Lecras Kennedy Rioli
HF Cripps McGovern Darling

What a forward line. Best in the comp if all fit. Give it enough supply and it will kick 100+ points a game.
