Just have to accept the fact that only 20/30% of players play a full season, it will depend on who is out, for how long and at what stage of the season = luck plays a big part in winning a flag.

I've had moments of hope but reckon we will be around 8-12 team this year, let's see.

Sadly, McStay, Moore and Howe all have histories where seasons were significantly disrupted by repeated minor injuries. Unfortunately for those guys, it’s rarely a case of one and done.

The upside from a development point of view is that Buller, West, McInnes and maybe even Smit will get plenty of opportunities - but that won’t help us win matches this year.

A 9th-14th place finish seems most likely to me now but I’m looking forward to seeing some fresh faces as we transition our list.
Yes you make some good points here. McStay and Howe have had really interrupted seasons recently but Moore seems to have improved in body resilience and unlike back in 2018 can push through injuries. For eg last year they say he carried the shoulder for most of the season and he played all games in 2024 and most in 2023. But as you say, the only way we get games into the younger ones below is if our veterans either are managed or are injured. So this may be one of these blessings in disguise. Howe mainly plays on a flank we seem to have plenty of potential half back flankers if they can stay fit. Reading reports Tew is struggling with his body a bit. And also the reports seem to hint that Moores injury was related to ruck work so maybe not have him doing rucking.

Yeah guys wow season hasnt started yet and we have injuries already.

Moore
Howe
Houston
J Daicos
N Daicos. (minor)
Mcstay
Qaynour
No Bobby Hill AND A FEW MORE

WOW WE ARE GONE BEFORE SEASON STARTS
2026 FORGET ALL OUR BACKLINE GONE JUST ABOUT
ONLY WAY AROUND THIS IS IF THE NEWBIES AND THE OTHERS STEP RIGHT UP OTHERWISE BRING ON 2027

Moore we can’t replace but Howe playing less than 10 games in 2026 might actually be good for our list moving forward
Agree Howe being injured could be a good thing. It forces selectors to look to the future. Personally I think he should have been retired off last year.

Reef straight in.

Lots of doom and gloom in here. Some minor injuries in January means we won't be playing finals?

McStay, Howe, Moore and IQ should be training again by Australia Day. It sounds like Josh and Houston will be back very soon too? I know an interrupted preseason is never ideal though it could be so much worse. There are clubs with key players missing very large training blocks.

I think there was more context to just January injuries in the comments, if you think injuries stop at the end of Jan then look again, it's the long-term impact (potentially)

Clearly, I'm more insinuating that you'd prefer to get them early and be minor than later and long term e.g. Day, Motlop, Hogan, Greene and a bulk of North players.

No doubt McStay, Howe and co. will be injured again though I'm happy they're short term for now.

could it be something to do with the ground being so hard over summer, do they let the grass grow a little more or even water it just to take the edge out of the surface

seems like just the older players at the moment are being impacted

Saw a few hawks fans crowing over our injuries and ageing list yesterday

Nek minutt - Will Day with season threatening shoulder at training today

We don't play finals in January.
I’m not saying that the sky is falling, I just don’t think we’re contenders this year.

We have one of the hardest fixtures in the comp, are having an injury-interrupted pre-season and, most importantly, the best footy of most of our top dozen or so players lies behind them, not in front of them. That’s not true to the same extent at Bris Crows Freo Hawks Swans Suns Giants Cats Saints Dogs etc.

It’s pretty hard to deny that, in relative terms, those teams’ lists are now pulling away from ours. It happens. Footy is cyclical.

I’m looking forward to seeing what our underexposed players can do with greater opportunities and responsibility.

It’s a transition year. We’ll be competitive, but the best teams will shred is I suspect. So the injuries just mean more game time for the fringe players. Which is fine.

I was watching nine news last night and the intro into the sports segment before the adds was another Collingwood star injured. I wait for the sports news to come back on and there's one or two stories leading the segment, then they cross with devastating, and yes that's the word they used, 'devastating' news for Dan McStay with a hamstring concern, checks notes as of the 14/01/2026 where he will miss a few weeks but should be right for opening round.

That is all part and parcel of supporting the Pies though, so it's good footy is on its way back.

Van Hattum is going to be a huge man.
I had to do a double take tbh. Usually a 17 year old that tall would be an absolute rake but he’s got the body of a 25 year old already 🤯

Let’s see if I have this right

IQ
Howe
Houston
Hill ( I know )
Moore
McCreery
McStay
Daicos x2 coming off something

All soft tissues?

It’s not the minor injuries that worry me, just the delay in training and conditioning leading up to the Saints
The less players in the state of origin the better.

Darcy Cameron hopefully doesn't play

You must be great at parties. FYI, Moore hasn’t played less than 24 games in a year since 2021, he’s well past the “soft tissue prone” phase he had whilst still growing in to his body. And McStays issues by and large have been knee ligaments not traditional soft tissue injuries.

Yes,we’ve had a few injuries already, but it’s only mid January and the first game of the season is almost two months away. All the players currently injured should be right to go by round one.So there’s no need to panic or be pessimistic just yet. There’s plenty of time for that.😝
