People forget that Hawthorn got rejected by guys like Ratugolea, BZT, Henry in 2023. A year later, after making finals and having a huge jump up the ladder, they go and get Barrass and Battle

Things change very quickly
Hawthorn have also shown they know how to be a successful club , we are yet to prove that so its a no brainer that players would trust the staff at the Hawks more than our club

I don’t hold much concern for your lack of understanding but to try and bumper sticker it, the club has not tried effectively to bring in a top 3 pick or a superstar 25yo midfielder, which I believe we require at least one of.

I can't see how you have come to this conclusion. They've gone hard with massive offers to a number of free agents or trades over the last few years.
Degoey
Callaghan
Merrett
Ldu
Brayshaw
TDK
Etc

They have also actively tried to actively move up the draft this year and couldn't get it done. Every team was trying to move up this year so the cost of doing so became prohibitive (see the north Melbourne trade).

So it seems to me that what you're complaining about the club not doing is incorrect.

Training Report - 27/2/25
Wood, Henry, Jones, and Roh in full training. Only Rehab I think is Carroll. No King, Sinc's. Doogs on the bike in the gym arm in a sling.
No Tauru. No Arie.
Travaglia off talking to the training with a leg issue. Not sure the issue, flexing a left knee.
Stock standard leading drills.
A bit of in close ground ball drills on the other side.
Forwards, mids, backs training at relevant parts of the ground. Hammer with the forwards.
Henry in the mids Heath v Dodson.
Wilson, Clark, Jones, Steele, Macrae, Hugo, Boxshall mids.
Keeler forward.
Next drill, cross field coast to coast ball movement at speed. Quick movement, run by support. Very much Lyon's style ( or is it now Enright). Really quick side to side movement. Better be able to run in this team.
Roh and Carroll kick to kick, don't know Carroll's problem.
Good talk in the coast to coast drill.
Green v Yellow now, Hammer forward on Cordy.
Clark, gets a poor handball, blind turns Wood, breaks Windy tackle, hits forward on the tit.
Now red v Green. Collard, Keeler, Hastie, Wilson, Webster, McClennan. Hugo beats McCrae to Jones who slots from the angle.
NAZ goes for a run, to Henry then a magic over the head to supporting player.
FMD Henry is looking good. Moving well, hot caught in a great Jones tackle, no problems. Hitting classy passes in traffic. Looks like the knee is fine.
Travaglia still pumping the legs on the bike. No issue.
Half field defensive work. Going with Wilks, Cordy, Webster, Hastie, Stocker, NAZ. Hammer, Sharman up forward.
NAZ loose in defence killing it, uncontested marks.
Hall slots a beauty post height from 50. Nice set shot.
Guess what? Naz is an absolute class act. Give him 17 mill over ten years. Barrett is very tidy and is surprisingly big for his age.
Henry talking to a coach, saying he is getting there, just the mental.part after a knee.
Sharman takes a nice marks turns and slots it from 50.
Boyd doing a lot of one one with Keeler about positioning at the ruck contest.
Ok campaigners, that's all folks,

As always thanks for the report Joff.

Hopefully Trav's knee is nothing to worry about.

Sounds like Henry is still a chance for round 1.

We were offered Houston and we turned it down.
DeGoey was a chance, as were many others
We clearly have a strategy in place, but you can lead a horse to water...but you know the rest.

I reckon we along with North and Gold Coast are always approached by managers as a negotiating tool for better contracts for players at incumbent clubs, fair enough that's the market.

There is a reason we got Crouch as a free agent as he had issues, but we got a good plug and play player.

Hill is turning out to be a bonus off the field as is Mason Wood, even Paddy Ryder and for that matter Dean Butler players that have come into the club and made it better.

This seems to be creating a bit of gravitas to Saints as a destination possibility which we were not 10 years ago and used purely as leverage for negotiation.

Whether we get 2 DKs or LDU which would help our cause we are building a strong internal culture that is being recognised by the industry, results will follow in time.

By comparison look at the cluster f@%k Essendon are today and Tigers were for years until they sorted out internally....Melbourne may also be on an internal combustion pathway as well.

We are going okay and building but the process is never a straight line upwards trajectory sadly.

There was an indication that Travaglia hurt his knee in that 4th quarter against the scummers. He didn't play in the Sandy match as a result.

Thanks for that mate.

Seems king is in doubt for round 1?

Tauru hasn’t trained this week either?

Carroll said he knicked his calf a couple of weeks ago. Will be right by next week. Thinks his lost his spot now. Webster also off and into trainers room late in match sim.

After several meetings with various specialists over the past fortnight, the club decided it was best to send the full forward in for surgery to mend the problem and set him up for a successful 2025 season upon his return.

It is the same knee King had knee a reconstruction on to repair his torn ACL in his draft year.

While the club is hopeful he will remain “touch-and-go” to play against the Crows in the season-opener in three weeks, it appears a long shot.

Not good. Just get it right, don't rush him back.

FMD. How long? Can't read it. :madv1:
Misson says he's touch-and-go for Round 1 - just an arthriscope.

HS says we've had "the pre-season from hell" cause apparently we're the only club with injuries

Pretty annoyed at this.

He has been on and off the track for nearly a month. Just get the god damn surgery done early to let the guy build into round 1 or 2 as opposed to now throwing him in.

Club was happy to tell everyone he was on track for round 1 over the last 2 weeks.

Just shitty communication and management in my eyes.

I'd say if we can't attract players on crazy contracts, it means we haven't done enough of the ground work yet.

Keep drafting and playing to get higher up the ladder and make ourselves look attractive. The Hawks have done it through a reception of momentum.
We have a list in the youngest 5 in the league and it’s arguable - But we can say it’s loaded with young talent now.

Under this path we have made finals and missed finals - but looked like we put it together late on.

The only thing left to tick is that spike season where you crack the top 4-5 clubs. Which if that’s the ground work you are referring too - we shouldn’t ever go after players until we achieve that

Misson also talks a lot of shit and never gives a proper injury report.
“Explorative surgery” also indicates they had not the foggiest of what they were hoping to find.

So hopefully it needed a minor clean up and away he goes.

Have not tried effectively?

Is that the same as ‘their efforts have been shithouse in recruiting a big name?’

Or

They haven’t managed to snag a player?

If its the former then I’d like to hear your reasoning.

And if its the latter then remaining dismayed is probably a reasonable state of mind.
