Last year would have taken four more wins, and some decent percentage.
North Melbourne were 3 goals off an 11 win season too though. You still have to get over the top of other teams who are good as well. Brisbane, Dogs, Hawks and Gc shouldn't be as shit next year, we just have to go as hard as we can and hope injury stays away, players improve and we keep winning the close ones.

So over that last 8 games when he returned to the team, Sav averaged 530m-gained per game- ranked 4th in the league over that time.

Since then he's reportedly dropped 5kgs of unnecessary bulk and presumably been given the "Joey license to attack" keys.

Hoping he has a real breakout, full year.

Interesting that like Dunstan (who likewise came back into the team late in the year to play career-best footy), he gives a lot of the credit for his turnaround to Emma Murray, who also worked with Richmond last year, and has been given huge wraps on the work she did there (including group meditation sessions apparently). Dusty in particular is said to have benefited greatly from his work with her.

Very glad she's with us part time as well, as it sounds like she's doing a ripper job at both clubs.

Tough patch brings out the best in Savage:

Is she a new appointment? Don't think I remember hearing anything about her at the club. Mental strength is a huge part of overall success so if we can add that to the group then that is great.

First I heard of her was in the articles on Dunstan where he basically gave most of the credit for his form turnaround to his work with her, and I've heard lots of wraps on the work she did with the Richmond group as well, in particular Dusty, but haven't heard how long she's been at either club.

Such an important role to get someone good in, as so much of sport is played above the shoulders.

Doesn't matter how much or hard you train if your head's not in the right place, and/or you don't believe in yourself.

Armo reckons he's done "pretty much a full preseason", which is great news, for depth, competition for spots and experience, at the bare minimum.

Saints bond as midfielder prepares to return to deeper engine room:

Article the other day on Koby said that Armo is getting specialised treatment multiple times a week on a German-developed machine that exercises specific muscles in the groins and lower back, that traditional exercise equipment don't get to, so hopefully that works well for both him and Koby.

If we are top 4 due to natural improvement then I'd agree with you, although with the loss of Roo and Joey I'm just not sure I see enough improvement to take us into the top 4. Top 8 yes but top 4 is a big jump from outside the 8. Let's hope I'm proven wrong!
I guess you could say....."never say never"

With the Tiges....I thought losing 3 elims in a row told everyone that that's as far as that list will go......2016 just confirmed that to me......I really didn't rate too highly their recruits from late 2016 either.

WRONG....big time !!!!!!

I had a chuckle yesterday when going thru some magazines(read big clean out) I had in the lounge.........the Herald Sun pre season footy mag had the end of 2017 season tips for 18 "experts".

Not one of them tipped Richmond to finish in the 8 let alone winning the flag.

Been a while since I have been on here, so this may be old news but will share anyway. I am hearing very good things about Ben Dixon's appointment, my source is credible. There has been a huge focus on goal kicking this pre-season as you would expect. Membrey absolutely smashing it (but no surprises there). Billings has also been on fire in goal kicking drills, and has been the 2nd most accurate kick over the pre-season. Would love to see this translate into game day. Will be a star if it does.

Finally, was also told to expect vastly improved kicking from Jack Lonie this season. They have put a lot of work into his technique. Not only has his accuracy gone through the roof, he has even managed to find another 5-10 metres in distance:thumbsu:

That's a clear indication that the club is starting to 'fine tune' some of our players to ensure we can get maximum performance. My take from that is that the team is reasonably comfortable and settled about all the larger issues like running ability, strength levels, team patterns, and specific roles. Players are now able to find the time and space to work on the little important things that make a big difference. Exciting times, and I'm pretty confident we will improve as a whole.

People go on about Lonie, not sticking tackles blah blah blah.

His results last year are 6 goals , 14 behinds, and 7 goal assists from 12 games.
He still has plenty of potential to be a 25 goal a year small forward if he can make some of those behinds into goals.

He wins plenty of the ball, contested ball, and if he gets a bit bigger and stronger he may win more ( and stick more tackles ).

Steven Milne was 21 before he played, and he still looked tiny, he couldn't have weighed much more than Lonie.
(I know that Lonie doesn't have Milne's freakish ability)

Aaaah pre season optimism. Lonie has only ever shown he is not up to AFL standards.
He is not going to be Milney and will be lucky to get a handful of games this season.

His answer on the surgery was less than convincing. Sounds like his body is breaking down

Lonie was perfectly good in his first season. Played some very good individual games (including 20 disposals and 2 goals 3, 17 disposals (11 contested) and 2 goals, and 18 disposals and a goal, and was generally best 22.
