Webster running with the midfielders?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I kept saying at the end of last year we should try him on the wing. He's got some pace, bravery to hit the packs hard at speed, loves a one on one contest and can spread and at times gets himself into trouble running ahead of the play to make a link up option. If you get him further from defence what was a liability can become a strength.

One thing I'm happy about is the options we have now.

Even is McCartin doesn't come up ( I hope he does of course ) we have plenty of players who can fill his position -Bruce , Membery , Goddard , Battle , Marshall.
Same goes with our mids - Steele , Dunstan , Steven , Armitage , Stevens , Acres , Ross , SInclair , Billings , Gresham Freeman , Newnes , Weller , Savage and with Longer and Hickey we have 2 good rucks in case one breaks down.
Then our back line we have strength - Carlisle , Roberton , Geary , Webster , White , Gilbert , Rice , Austin.

and who knows how Minchington / who was injuried for the best part of the year , McKenzie , Lonie , Long , Wright , Hunter- Clark , Coffield , Paton go next year.

Things are looking great

I had a look to see what Knightmare was saying before Webster was drafted ( because i could easily find it ) , also Quayle.
Seems he was never pigeonholed as a back before we got him.
He probably hasn't developed fast because he HAS been injury prone, 2017 probably his most consistent shot. Wouldn't it be great if what we needed was there all along.

Jimmy Webster (TAS - Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 71kg, DOB: 28/06/1993
Recruited from: Glenorchy
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Really nice left footer. Has nice penetration on his kick. Great user of the footy. Good pace. Didn’t stand out as much as I had hoped during the champs and because of it has gone down my rankings. But looks like a really solid prospect none the less. Really talented outside mid who can go forward and have an impact.

The Hawks' draft position and strong list mean they can just grab the best players they can, but I could see them opting for at least one onballer, maybe two, given a few decent ones should make it through to the mid-30s and that they could continue succession planning for the likes of Burgoyne, Mitchell, Sewell and even Hodge. Players such as Jimmy Webster, Sam Kerridge and Shane Nelson could push through

Koby had groin surgery after the end of last season , maybe he’s on a reduced work load for awhile.
Nah it turns out he did I think the whole session, I just didn't recognise him at the time because of the hat he was wearing. I'd been wondering who the other one under that hat was apart from Steven and once I got home and looked at the pics it revealed Koby.

It’s always better if it’s cloudy . The sun messes up photos all the time with shadows and reflections etc . You did well considering the bright sun .
Sunny is fine if it's more at your back (like with the ones of Hickey, Gresh etc running laps, or walking towards me from the right), but a lot of the rest needed a lot of photoshopping just to get them presentable!

The past 2 premiership ruck man roughhead and nank. Very robust strong fellas with fantastic football ability. I dont see it in any of our ruckmen so far. If marshall can put on a bit of size he could be our best option going forward. Ge has the tricks to cause headaches for the opposition.
You been picking wild mushrooms again?

It makes sense considering the multiple options we have in his role a la Rice and White just to name two

I'm big on thinking outside the square and I've seen far worse ideas on here.

Not only give us some decentvrun and spread and serious aggro... But also opens a spot for White or Rice.

Longer is taller than Nank, similar weight, and averages 14 more hitouts per game.
20 more than Roughead.
Once Billy settles more and doesn’t rush his disposals, plus takes a few more grabs, he’ll wipe the floor with those bit-men.

Marshall isn’t a full time ruck.

Agreed re Marshall but he can be that fwd/ruck that most teams are keen to develop

He wouldn't be longer if he wasn't taller. But Jordan would still have a rough head.

( OK you'd better holler for the Marshall and lock me up ).

I have a concern about that

If he moves onto the wing, who does he displace? Newnes, Sinclair, Billings and Acres all play on the wings, so does he take the place of one of these guys?

Longer will be a great ruckman as soon as he picks up those skills he’s shown no sign of in six years in the AFL.

Reliable hit out dominance (that our mids can bank on) and good tackle numbers will do me fine thanks. Anything else is icing for billy, but if he gives us that he is golden as far as I am concerned.

Ruckmen rarely improve after 24, do they...
Especially not ones coming off their first season after a year out

Look for Jarryn's reaction when the reporters start talking about Melbourne's players cancelling their Too Hard session. About all he could do to avoid laughing out loud. I'd love to be in the team playing the Demons first up next year, some serious sledging material that will need to be drilled into!
we LOL at your pre-season. whilst you guys are bitching to the PA, in our downtime we are rupturing our testicles practicing a sport we're not even paid to play. imagine what our real stuff is like
