Port Adelaide
West Coast
Western Bulldogs

Early Exit

Essendon
Carlton
Melbourne
Kangaroos
Richmond
Adelaide
Geelong
Collingwood

Lot's of whimps who won't have a go at a precise order.

Allow me. (hey, what have I got to lose?)

1. Brisbane (will finally crack it for minor premiership)

2. St Kilda (will get it right...at last)

3. Hawthorn (will draft well in the midfiied and get some supply to the forward line)

4. Essendon (will trade smart and finally get a quality ruckman)

5. Sydney ( overachieved in 2003 but have an excellent coach and team ethic)

6. Port (will suffer a downer but will beat up on Adelaide and enough weak sides to get into the 8)

7. Geelong ( Ablett will star and back line will be settled enough for them to scrape in)

8. Freo ( aura of invincibility at Subiaco will disappear after other visitors copy the Bombers game plan....willl just squeak in)

9. Richmond (will finally have a decent clean out and start with a bang.....will be 4th with 6 rounds to play and then blow it completely with 6 losses to finish in their customary position)

10. Western Bulldogs (the kids will start to grow up, they'll get lots of good pick-ups from the draft AND trading period and will be the big improvers)

11. West Coast ( will struggle to cover retirements and one or two aging stars.....still no full forward and will realise too late that Phil Matera can't kick all their goals)

12. Kangaroos (the heart and spirit won't help a lot with a crappy list)

13. Carlton (will be competitive most of the time but too many holes to fill with too little resources......Big Jack will call for Pagan and the board to be sacked)

14. Collingwood (will take half a season to get over being thrashed in the 2003 GF and willl really struggle when they are asked to actually play their share of REAL away games. Eddie will put it all down to a Communist plot)

15. Adelaide. (a third of their list will retire mid-season to pursue other interests......the Geraitric Olympics in 2020)

16. Melbourne ( no even years revival this year Dees!.........Neitz will try to play FF and FB at the same time....... after they are 1 and 12 after 13 Rounds, Daniher will be sacked and head off to the snowfields)

Top 4 (in no order)

Swans
Lions

What game plan is that, hope like hell half the Dockers side chokes?

Obviously thing will change after the trade period but.....
1. Port Adelaide... the belly burns, too much talent
2. Brisbane... more talented, more depth than any other team
3. Fremantle, 9th favourite for the flag, if they are paying $1.75 or more for the 8 - get on
--------------
4. Sydney... backline a worry, but strong from the middle to forward
5. St Kilda... not quite a top 4 team but getting there
6. Collingwood... average list playing at their peak with a great coach, need a slight rebuild
7. Essendon... can Hird, Fletcher and Lloyd combine for 15 games on the park together?
8. Adelaide... need a good run with injuries
9. Weagles... 11 wins, Freo to sweep the Derbies
10. Kangaroos... missing a couple of vital ingredients
11. Hawthorn... inconsistency a killer
--------------
12. Richmond... Getting better?
13. Geelong... Good young list, decent backline, no good forwards, big trade season needed.
14. Doggies... Grant back will be huge, another couple of big fellas and they'll be challenging for the 8
--------
15. Melbourne... Expect the YoYo, the trick this year is walk the dog.
17. Carlton... won't attract any big names, might give Fitzroy of 1995 a run for their money, if you can get $3.50+ for the spoon load up.

1. Sydney (Great coach, skillful, fast, will do well)
2. Port Adelaide (Next year or never...)
3. Brisbane Lions (Will be a force, could surprise a few in September like this year)
4. Fremantle (Will probably only drop 1 or 2 at Subi)

5. Essendon (Better than average year, no huge threat. Will win most of it's games, expect to recruit well. 2005 is looking much brighter. IMO, their spine of quality players Lloyd, Hird, Fletcher, JJ, MJ, Wellman etc.makes them a finals team and these players are too good to miss out in September.)

6. Adelaide (Will surprise most - almost unbeatable at AAMI)
7. Collingwood (Grand Final belting would have scarred, their quality players will do enough to get them to September ... where abouts - who knows)
8. Hawthorn (Will be way, way over-rated over the summer ... will scrape in- but don't be fooled)

---------------------------

9. West Coast (Shame they miss out, but will be leading canditate to replace Hawthorn)
10. St. Kilda :)rolleyes: - Rate them at your own peril. Will be EXPECTED to make finals next year and for this bunch of kids - you don't know how there gonna take it. Perception at Moorabin they will be the next 'super team' - we'll just wait and see. Pulling arrogance from somewhere when they havn't earnt a 'rating' as yet.
11. Richmond (Hmm...)
12. Melbourne (It's an even year- so who knows)
13. Western Bulldogs (Will improve - slightly)
14. Kangaroos (Could finish anywhere)
15. Geelong (Put $$$ on first coach sacked - sorry MT)
16. Carlton (Sorry!)

1 Port
2 Collingwood
3 Brisbane
4 Hawthorn
5 West Coast
6 St.Kilda
7 Fremantle
8 Essendon/Crows tied on % (decided by coin toss!)

Under this system, Port and Pies lose in the first week. Power pray for a bomber win (they can't beat anyone else), Eagles too good.

Hawks v Pies - Preliminary
Lions v Eagles - Preliminary

Lions win 4 in a row...

Buckley picks up another medal somewhere along the way (no flag though)... lucky he left Brisbane to play in Premierships...

2004 Betting tip 1:
Bet on Port week in week out during H&A (get god odds)
Put your house against them in the Finals (unless playing the Bombers...)

Port Adelaide
Brisbane
Sydney
Fremantle
West Coast
Essendon
Collingwood
Adelaide
------------------
St Kilda
Kangaroos
Geelong
Hawthorn
Bulldogs
Carlton
Melbourne
Richmond

A bit hard to tell yet.

One collingwood in the league is bad enough, but two?
Seriously, what are you trying to prove with the miss-spelling?

Mark, I usually respect your opinion (and this is not a troll), but I guarantee that Essendon will finish higher than your mob next year.
Guaranteed.
:)
Fait enough you have faith in your team. If your best players, particularly Hird, play close to a full season you shuold make the 8. Hird & co playing a full season is far from guranteed and the result if they do is no certainty anyway. As for finishing above Collingwood, we'll see but I strongly doubt it. The teams have been moving in opposite directions while rebuilding and crossed 2 seasons ago so I see no reason for any reversal. Collingwood will have a stronger list and natural improvement going for them. Essendon will have plenty of talent but some of it is fragile.

Who will give up their spot from this year?

Brisbane have the weight of bodies and experience to haul themselves into finals until Voss actually explodes (so long as painkillers aren't banned).

Collingwood have a decent coach who took a light young team to the GF, you'd expect they'll be top 4 again, at least top 8.

Port still have an excellent coach and great teamwork, they came first without great quality (and their two best out) so finals is almost a cert despite losing players. They could slip 7 places and still make it.

Sydney have a fine light young side and seem to have a good coach. Sides will take them more seriously in 2004, but they'll mature. Still they did well to make 4th, I'd expect a litle dip beforn they rise again. Very likely finalist in 2004

Bombers had a shocking year for injury and still cruised into the finals. Sheedy will bring them home again, and if fit they will be a real flag threat. Top 4.

Adelaide. They look old and battered, even though Roo McLeod Hart aren't 30. Still massive midfield quality will probably get them there, but to me they are the second most likely to drop out.

Eagles and Freo. Both young lists with young coaches who played out of their skins this year. Both sides showed lots, had great room for improvement, and the tremendous home ground advantage (but they bravely overcame the travel difficulty the other way).

West Coast have an edge in experience and tradition that will see them play finals in 2004, but Connoly has a lot of work to do to see his boys don't slip. We've seen year after year quality players leak out of underperforming Docker sides. It'd be a tragedy if this group disintegrated after one taste of finals. That's what I think will happen.

Clubs most likely to rise: Hawks, Dees (even numbered year), Saints (unless they're waiting til they have 18 first round draft picks). Probably only one of these will get in, I'd say the professional Hawkers.

Top four

Port Adelaide - They still have the talent and home ground advantage
West Coast - When their midfield is on fire its second only to the lions
Brisbane - The only team that will knock them off for the GF will be themselves. Scary amount of talent, can they keep it going?
Collingwood - MM is a fighter and will pull them up again but I don't think you'll see a GF apperance again

Rest of the eight

Adelaide - They have another season left with their aging stars
Sydney - not sure about if they can continue on from this year. Will definitely make the 8 but I doubt if they'll be a top 4. Other teams won't underestimate them this year
Fremantle - So much talent, so much home ground advantage, but will still get knocked out in the first week of the finals
Essendon - At first I had the saints at #8 but how could a team with Hird, Llyod and the Johnson's not make the 8

Knocking on the door

St.Kilda - My smokie, could do anything with their list, including fall on their sword
Hawthorn - See St.Kilda, but if they lose Rawlings it will hurt
Kangaroos - The best of the rest
Geelong - Will improve next year but far from the leading teams

Long, long season ahead

Melbourne - Need to totally rebuild midfield and spine. We are still a couple of years away *ouch* that hurt to say
Richmond - More of the same
Bulldogs - There will be improvement but not enough
Carlton - Another hard year ahead but this won't be a bad thing, the blues can afford it with plenty of supporters and it will give them a chance to further rebuild a brittle list

I would pick Brisbane winning the flag over Manchester United winning the EPL. Brisbane had a fairly average year this year (compared to the other 2). They seemed to be struggling and then still won the premiership. They will retain their core group of senior players and will have a better year than this year.

I will make a prediction now in response to all the ladders that have been put up.

There is absolutely no way that Fremantle will finish ahead of Adelaide next season. Not a chance in hell.

Not just because Adelaide have a far, far better list, but also Fremantle has the lowest standards in the leauge. I mean honestly, how could the Freo players live with themselves, basking in the applause of the Subi crowd after their embarassing display against Essendon?

Freo are a bigger chance for the wooden spoon than the top four.

As for the other places, a lot of it depends on injuries. However I worry about Port Adelaide. You can't lose players like Paxman, Stevens and Kingsley without it having some effect, and I doubt that Wanganeen and Tredrea will have the stellar seasons they had this year. Francou will need to be fit.
