Vic Predict the outcome of the 2018 Victorian State Election

Politics isn't football, it's not like the liberals need to hit the draft and train a new crop of elite MPs. There's no reason they couldn't win in four years time, the question is how much they're willing to learn from this wipeout and the impending federal one next year.

There will always be white collar assholes like myself who want a pro-business party to put more bacon on their tables. And a lot more of us white collar assholes would have voted liberal in this election, if the liberals weren't also packages with 1950's social conservatism.

That's the existential crisis they find themselves in. Are they a party of socially conservative wowsers? Or is their raison d'etre the liberalisation of the economy? If it's the message itself that is on the nose, their core principles, then what can they actually do to win back an electorate that has passed them by? To have any chance of forming government (in Victoria at least) in the near future they need to expunge the party of these religious conservatives and reinvent the party because at the moment they really are seen as a bunch of "homophobic, anti-women, climate-change deniers" which is going to appeal to a smaller and smaller portion of the electorate as newer generations are added to the electoral roll.

For real? Michael O'Brien is about as moderate as they come in the Liberal ranks. Literal antithesis to Kroger.

This despicable grub surfaces again

"If the Greens and Labor wanted more Liberal women in the parliament they shouldn't have run against and beat them" - Vic Lib MLC Bernie Finn:

This is how the Liberal party see women. They shouldn't be respected and supported in key positions on merit, they can only win by being handed something.

This was just insanely moronic from Finn.

It's Labors fault that Finn said that. If Labor didn't defeat them in their electorates, there would have been smarter Coalition MPs to get a statement off.

Agree they could win particularly if the economy hit the skids and the Liberals do have several usually safe seats to use to bring in some talent.

Safe seats like Wentworth or Hawthorn....

Take nothing for granted in modern politics, a lesson the Libs are still learning.

They are currently bringing in 'talent' from Family First and the like. Libs woes go way beyond just voting patterns

If Scott Morrison and the rest of his government saw the final results of the Victorian election, it would’ve sent shudders down their spine, because if the results was replicated at the next federal election, the Coalition would lose all their seats in Victoria by a big margin.

Morrison got Cormann to explain the Vic result to him and by the Belgian's maths they only lost by three seats. It's the real reason the PM isn't concerned.

And you won’t be seeing the PM campaigning here in Victoria, focusing more on NSW and Queensland, because that’s where the majority of the marginal seats are, and it could be the difference between winning and losing the election as far as the Coalition government is concerned.

Sam Hibbins winning Prahran a travesty. You shouldn’t be able to win from third place. Ever. Time to scrap preferencial voting for the third candidate. Should only apply to 1st and 2nd.

Really? I like it, that's the beauty of preferential voting.

And Sam Hibbins won't do anything to improve Chapel Street, who are a million light years behind compared to what they were in the late 1990s-early 2000s.

no state based local member is going to make or break Chapel Street

high rentals, sweet * all parking, shitty easy access in and out, and the growth of high end brands in the CBD, Chadstone, Doncaster, and so on killed chapel street

my wife used to go there all the time, doesnt now because the clothes are s**t and its a pain in the arse to get to.

its a council issue to sort out, not a state govt one
