I don't understand the fixation with ladder positions, especially this early in the year.

I can honestly say that i haven't looked at the ladder since 2006, perhaps even earlier.
It's totally irrelevant until the last few rounds and even then it's only worth looking at if you're in a tight battle for the 8 (or the top 4).

I like to look at all the positions. Doesn't hurt when I see us on top.

Worry? I just like to see us up there. The ladder is a form guide.
Geelong are the form team of the competition even without a proper preseason. Save for injuries, I only forsee improvement for us. Given 2008, and 89-95 for that matter, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I'm feeling pretty confident about how we are travelling this year.

In recent years, Scarlett has been arguably our most important player, but since Taylor has assumed his position as the most dominant center half back in the competition, Scarlett is just the icing. When Scarlett goes, he will do so in the knowledge that his vegetable garden is in safe hands. Geelong's future is still very, very bright. Exciting times.

Massive Call. I don't really care as long as they finish top 4. Id rather be sitting where we are now anyway. The team thats on top always get the most attention.

i think we've been spoilt in the last 3 years - i remember the day in the mid 2000s when we beat the dons and the ladder appeared on the big screen at the G and the crowd erupted in applause because we were in the 8.

we are oh so lucky to see such an awesome Geelong side over the last 3 years. so.. enjoy where we are guys - its not going to last forever!

there is no other team.

To say you wouldn't have had to look and look twice at the ladder throughout 2007, with our dominating percentage would tell me there's something wrong with your devotion and love for Geelong. IMHO anyway...

Wouldn't say Round 5 though, on the radio last night it said we'd have to beat Carlton by 20 goals to take top spot. Probably wont happen, but I'm fairly confident we can take up the rest of the percentage we need at the Richmond game next week.

Oh okay, i stand corrected.

I don't love Geelong because i don't masturbate over the ladder like a geeky teenager with too much time on his hands? Dear God.

I judge the quality of a football team with my eyes, i don't need a ladder to tell me that we're a quality team and Richmond is an ordinary one.

As i said earlier, the ladder is only relevant during the last couple of weeks of the season, and even then only if you're in a tight battle for the top four or eight.
We've not been in that position during the last three years so i've had no reason to look at the ladder.

If you enjoy perusing the ladder each and week and use it as a guide to form that's fine, each to their own, but don't you dare question my devotion to our great football club.

That is just ridiculous to say you haven't looked at the ladders for 3 years. Absolutely ridiculous.
Ridiculous to you perhaps, but true nonetheless.

yeah sorry Exhale You, I'm just not believing it champ.
You can't imagine the amount of sleep i'm anticipating losing over your non-acceptance of this fact.

I call bullshit as well.

How else do you know who we will be playing in the finals come the end of the season in 09.

Also knowing when we've gauranteed a top 2 spot is good info to have if you're having a punt.

Not to mention footy tipping.

I'd put money on it that you've commented on the ladder in a post in the last two years as well. Probably around the time the discussion about resting players came up last year. Can't be stuffed looking though.

Also, you happen to be watching the news; they show the ladder.

You read any paper; they show the ladder.

That means that he pays no attention to the ladder positions and battles of any other team, which is very weird.

People quickly forget how good Egan was. In 2007 took best forward every week and killed them. Better man-on-man than than Harry, though Harry is a better kick.

You can tell we've got a Monday game.

Are you serious? The football media in Melbourne is at saturation point. One can't turn the television or radio on without football being discussed yet i apparently need to look at the ladder to know who we're playing or might play in the finals? Hmmm.

Also knowing when we've gauranteed a top 2 spot is good info to have if you're having a punt.
And one can only find out that information from looking at the ladder?

I'd put money on it that you've commented on the ladder in a post in the last two years as well. Probably around the time the discussion about resting players came up last year. Can't be stuffed looking though.
So one can only have knowledge of their teams ladder position if they've actually looked at the ladder? Some bizarre logic in this thread.

Also, you happen to be watching the news; they show the ladder.

You read any paper; they show the ladder.
I'm hardly going to avert my eyes when it's shown on the news but i certainly don't pay any attention to it, same goes for the one in the paper (on the rare occasion i actually read the physical edition).

That means that he pays no attention to the ladder positions and battles of any other team, which is very weird.
Why would i care where two random teams are on the ladder or which random teams are fighting for eighth spot? I care about Geelong and Geelong only and whilst i enjoy watching other teams play i've got no interest in them past that.

One last time.
The ladder is only relevant for the last few rounds and even then it only really matters if you're involved in a tight tussle for a top four or eight spot.
In the last three years we've been lucky enough to not have to worry about such things so the ladder has been wholly irrelevant to me during that period.
Not that hard a concept to get ones head around, i'd have thought.

Exhale You has just trolled you all, who gives a two sh**s if he hasn't looked at the ladder since who knows when. The ladder and what we get from it differs from supporter to supporter, people who love the league (as in watching other clubs play), not just their club, like to keep up-to-date with their passion for the game. If he remembers exactly when the last time he took notice of the ladder, then he is obviously out for some kind of "oh my gosh" reaction from people.

PS. Geelong 2010 Premiers.
