Predictions for 2025

So much so they will miss the finals hey, you sound the kind of bloke I would like to have an enormous wager with before the season starts. We have lost 1 player, likely to bring in 3/4 that will strengthen us and as far as I know we still playing games on the Gabba. I think you are wrong.
It's the fact they've been up there for 6 seasons, with the second oldest list in the league, and coming off the height of their success. It's not about losing players, the remaining key older players will drop off due to age, fatigue and lack of drive from winning the premiership at the end of their careers, which will affect the whole team very negatively, they'll have to restructure. They showed signs of their decline in the first half of 2024, but were able to get back together for one final crack with that list which worked out in the best way possible.

My prediction is that everyone who thinks they're savvy in predicting Freo and Hawthorn to make top 4 are going to be brought back down to earth only a couple of months into the season.

Hawks went on a brazen run, it won't happen again, they're just not that good or stacked across the ground yet. Teams main focus will be combatting those small forwards and setting up better on defensive transition.

Freo are a poor team coached by a poor coach. 2 player additions is going to change stuff all. Will see the same dour football with the odd decent win thrown in to keep the media and 'i told you so's' interested.
horrible call.

Collingwood won't be any better or worse, battling for the 8, wouldn't be surprised if they miss again.

Carlton, same old, comfortably finish in the bottom end of the 8 and complain about injuries despite everyone having injuries.

1st. Geelong
2nd. Brisbane
3rd. Swans
4th. Port

No one is challenging other than those 4.

Sacked: Longmuir, Nicks

And I think Macrae's philosophical primary school teacher approach at collingwood is going to get tiresome and will start losing the playing group.

Astute football analysis.

It's unpopular, but I tend to agree with this.

Throw in unexpectedly losing Daniher on top of it.

Been hearing that for years, but The Crows rely on their veterans too much, their younger players aren't pulling their weight. Some of my "wild" predictions in the past have come true, like Geelong missing finals in 2023, and Hawthorn making finals in 2024.
Chat to you in August

Similar to Geelong 2023, aged list and they made the most with the last time their squad will be collectively be in their prime again. I think winning the premiership is enough to satisfy the aged players, doubt they'll have that drive again.
Fair argument about motivation after achieving the ultimate goal and being at the top for some time. A lot of players coming of rehab group is another fair point. But Lions have a great depth as they showed last year when hit with 5 ACLs and a lot of young players delivered.

Definitely disagree with aged list argument and comparing it to Cats 2023. The list is well set up for next 4-5 years.

Here is Fox predicted best 23 Opening round. Beside Zorko 36, it's Neale 31 and Cameron 30, Big O 30. Lester 32 is a role player. The rest is in prime with a lot of young players.

Sure they will need to find a KPF but I suspect they will as they attract players and academy is delivering too.

BRISBANE LIONS

HF: C. Rayner 25, L. Morris 19, J. Berry 28

FOLL: O. McInerney 30, L. Neale 31, J. Dunkley 28

  • Top 4 is Geelong, Collingwood, Port and surprisingly Carlton.
  • St Kilda surprises everyone with a finals appearance.
  • Sydney will miss the finals.
  • Richmond finishes bottom and will win 4 games.

Restructure? We gunna drop our old players are we ? Who? Can tell you Neale will play on-ball and maybe slip to a top 5 player in the league, Charlie will play forward and do what he does, Oscar will play ruck no question and Zorko played the best footy of his career last year. Other than that other are young or in their prime. You might want it to happen but it won’t. They gunna go to Lachie and ‘sorry mate- your over 30 now, we know you are a champion on- baller but we are restructuring so your playing forward pocket’. Guess that’s big footy you can make ridiculous suggestions and its doesn’t really matter does it.

I honestly have no idea how anyone is so definitive on any team bar Richmond. They had to send off half their senior players for me to be sure they were bottom 2 locks. I'm also confident the Eagles and North will be bottom 6. Every other team has an 8+ range on their finishing position.

The competition is crazy even these days.

Neale, zorks and Lester may drop off. Add to that no daniher. But where our success come from last season for the most part was our youth. We were a different team when ashcroft made the field. Our improvement came from Starc, Wilmot, ashcroft, Fletcher, lomann and Morris. All blokes under 24 (maybe not starc) and only going to get better. The middle aged blokes like hippy, rayner, bags, Berry and bailey won't be any worse either. Maybe ah chee is showing his potential. I think we may surprise this year with little to no drop off over all.

Very, very good team.

Port fans have a free run this year.
If Power go poorly - It is Kens fault.
If Power go well - It is Carr's influence.

Big call though on the Port V Hawks GF, as I can see both of them missing finals.
They have been saying that for a couple of years
