Predictions thread

I have been cooly biding my time and surveying this board like an omniprescient gargoyle (i.e. playing Halo and masturbating, usually at the same time) for a while now.

I have compiled a list of predictions which will happen.

1. Phoenix to make the WCFs (at least). Nash will turn Warrick into a middle class man's Amare, and Childress will beast with Nash. Moves incredibly well off the ball. The key is Hedo. Can he play without the ball, or will he handle sometimes so nash can play spot up shooter. I think they'll make it work. 60 wins minimum.

2. Miami won't win the championship. The trio is not as egoless is advertised. There will be problems. And their middle is still very exposable. Bosh is weak as piss, Haslem is undersized and Anthony is a 10 minute backup. Im not sure another big will expose them, but teams will score on them. Wade and Bosh have never been really interested in defense.

3. The oldies won't go anywhere. Dallas, Boston and San Antonio are all right there.

4. Andre Bynum will kill the first 3 months of the season and then will have an ongoing knee injury in the last half of the season. Just a hunch.

5. At some point (probably after a 20 point pantsing of Minnesota or GSW), Funkyzeit mit Matt will declare "this is the year Dallas are legitimate contenders".

6. Oklahoma City will still only be a 6-8 seed.

7. Chicago will still only be a 6-8 seed.

8. Milwaukee will miss the playoffs and Bogut will demand a trade, oranother ball to play with at least.

9. New York and Atlanta will want mulligans over their summer signings.

10. Greg Oden will miss a game through injury, maybe even more than one.

Miami Heat - Just think they have too much fire power, LeBron is very hungry, will want to silence doubters etc etc Orlando close 2nd

West:

LA Lakers - No brainer here..picked up a couple to stengthen their bench, dont see them going anywhere

Champion:

Lakers - see above

Smokey:

Boston Celtics: Wont go away, also strengthend over the off season adding the O'Neal bros and Gloria James' other half, would love another Celtics v Lakers finals

Big Improvers:

Miami - obviously
Chicago Bulls - with the addition of Boozer, Rose & Noah getting better, shooters to stretch the floor, Tim Thib as coach...i think we'll scare a couple of teams this year, teams wont want to face us in the playoffs

Oklahoma Thunder - Durant and Westbrookproviding the most exciting young duo in the league...will be great to watch, i can see them finishing 2-4

Big Dissappointments:

Denver Nuggets - Just see them sliding down, especially if Carmelo goes

New Jersey/Minnesota - Another long year for these two sides id say

MVP:

Durant/Lebron - Durant will probably make his mark (if he hasnt already) as equally the best player in the league...Lebron to average near a triple double

ROTY:

Derrick Favors - Can see him averaging 15 and 10...which will probably be best stats for a rookie this season (also just have a feeling that John Wall wont get it)

Anyway thats my picks, we'll see how it all unfolds shortly i spose

I predict OKC to continue to be terribly over-rated and for them to be tipped as high as 2nd in the West, whereas really they're not that good and will struggle for top 4/5

I'm not convinced. Their starters missed a total of 6 games last year due to injury. All 6 to Krstic. If they have a year that say Portland had this year with their star missing 20 games and some injuries to supporting cast then there's no way they get near 50 wins. Durant is a freak, but at the moment I'm not convinced of the players around him nor of his ability to drag average players that high, especially if they get any injuries.

Well he just dragged a decidedly average cast to a World Championship (comfortably I might add). Of course if he gets injured, they are rooted. But their supporting cast is every bit as good as Clevelands was, and Durant is becoming every bit as good as LeBron is. They won 50 games last season, I don't think they get worse.

Against who though? They were winning with or without KD. No Parker, Gasol, Dirk, Kaman, Yao etc. It's fair to say they didn't come up against the likes of a Lakers side or Dallas. Also Durant hasn't shown nearly as much willingness as LeBron in passing the ball.. If they have things go their way again (Durant, Westbrook, Thabo, Green playing all 82, and Harden, Krstic, Ibaka rocking up with 75+ again) then 50 wins is a near certainty, but below that things just fall down and I'm not sure they can have 2 near perfect years with injuries.

I have compiled my own list of predictions which will probably not happen.

1. Phoenix to make the WC Semi Finals (at most). Nash will try and turn Warrick into a decent player - but a polished **** is still a ****, and Childress will brick many of the open looks Nash gets him. The key is Hedo. Can he play without his pre-game pizza, or will he end up at Phoenix nightclubs drinking late-night shooters. They won't make it work. 50 wins maximum.

9. New York will become relevant again through the play of Amar'e and Felton.

10. Portland will want a mulligan over their 2007 draft choice.

You forget to mention where he declares it as a danger game beforehand

Optimistic about the Spurs getting to the WCF. Everyone's healthy and rested at the start of the season for the first time in a while, RJ surely can't be as bad as last season (please God grant me that wish), and with Splitter to take some of the load off Duncan everything looks pretty good.
