Prelim 77 Footy Record

Came across this Footy Record after cleaning out my old bedroom at parents house. Sept 17th 1977, Prelim Final V Hawthorn.

Did you know in 1977 a brand new Datsun 180B was $4799.

The starting salary of a Police Constable was $10,005 p.a.

Every single North player had a full time job.

How times have changed!

Great find Gasometer! That was the game Cable took the Hawks apart and had almost 40 touches wasn't it?

Hey, does anybody have that 77 Prelim vs the Hawks on video? I'd love to get a copy if anyone does.

Pity the VFL was not as money hungry as the AFL or you would have been able to buy the triple pack like you can for 96 and 99 but then it would have been one short of a six pack anyway...

Channel 7 didn't keep copies of the games back then.

Ring Name-a-Game and ask they do have the last quarters of some of the finals in the 70's.

Thanks Melly, but I have tried Name-a-Game and they have the 1976 Prelim, but not the 77 one.... strange but true!

one k grieg with the aid of his son is still working as a plumber to make ends meet, although his knees give him hell getting into cramped pipework areas.

On closer look through the pile I have the Records of the

QF 77 Hawks V Roos MCG Sept 3rd
First Semi Roos v Rich VFL Park Sept 10th
Prelim Sept 17th Hawks v Roos Sept 17th VFL Park

I went to all those games as a mighty 9 yr old.

Dad queued at the G for both GF's and we missed out. We went to the '78 and I bawled. I got to the 96 and finally got Dad a ticket (off a Blues supporter mind you, so he was stuck amongst them all) to the 99 GF. Seeing his happiness after the GF win in front of the Hilton is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. He had never been to a winning Roos GF.

i was 11 and had gone to all finals

missed the draw as i went to a birthday party, and my uncle who took me to the games was os.

he thought we were joking when we told him of the draw and therefore we made it for the replay

great memories indeed
