What will the defence match ups look like? At a guess;

Andrews - Hawkins
Dizzy/Starcevich - Danger
Lester - Rohan
Ah Chee - Miers
Rich - Ablett

Danger probably the one that needs the most attention when he plays forward though not sure we have a match for Stanley (maybe Ratugolea) when resting forward. I guess Lester moves to the resting ruck and rotate smalls? Stanley been pretty handy last few games.

Those seem about right IMO. Probably move Dizzy onto the resting ruck, however Stanley spent a lot of time in the ruck tonight and Blicavs seems to play more on a wing when he's not in the ruck. I feel like they tend to rest a midfielder in their forward line even if Dangerfield is in the middle. That non-Dangerfield midfielder would probably be a good forward to play Birchall on. Or we play Birchall on Dahlhaus.

Collingwood were terrible tonight.

Truly awful terrible.

Really, it wasn't much more than a training run for Geelong so I'm not getting too overawed by their performance.

When we played Geelong back in round 5 , we fell apart in the third quarter after having their measure until half time. When we regained our composure, we came back and actually won the last quarter.

We "won" three of the four quarters that night and that was at a neutral venue, the SCG.

We are a more seasoned and mature side even since then and with our home crowd behind us on Saturday night, I'm very confident the lads can get the job done.

I'm comfortable with playing Geelong rather than the Pies if for no other reason than the Cats won't get nearly as much of the crowd support than the Ferals would have enjoyed.

GO LIONS!!!!
Geelong lost two players against us before half time at the SCG, but Clug was also injured, although kept playing. Agree with you we are a better team now. However I posted last week Lester cannot keep up with Rohan, so it must be Starc who has improved each week and has pace. I think we win-just. Hopefully our mids dominate and Dangerfield has to spend more time in the middle instead of the forward line because he is a real threat and Gardner will have his hands full. This is the key without Danger in the forward line, our defence can two up on their main target Hawkins. If Geelong's mids are breaking even then Danger in the forward line presents another key target.

Yes, we haven't dropped back after last year.......it wasn't a flash in the pan.

I too will be upset if we lose, particularly having the chance to play in a GF at home with our Qld supporters there in the majority......but in the cold light of day (down here;)) I will be chuffed that we are as good as we looked last year and our boys are now fully fledged mature players who give as good as they get, and we fans can sit down to watch a game knowing we stand a genuine chance of winning that game.

No, I will be as proud as punch of them for all they have achieved and if it happens to be a Premiership win, I'll be one blubbering mess in a good way

Our boys have arrived and are now men and we can look forward to some good few years ahead

I hope Brisbane can beat the Cats next week and then for Port to beat the Tigers as would love to see an all non Vic GF. When Hawkins and Dangerfield both are playing in the forward line wouldnt the way to beat them be to play an extra man in defence?? Anyway good luck for next week everybody and we here in the West will be right behind the Lions cheering them on.

Yes, the non vic teams will be wanted by everybody bar the media. You watch their narrative over this week!

Interesting that the side that played Geelong earlier in the year is the same side we are fielding now, with the exception of Coleman in for Tom Berry. Having been 10 points up at half time. We stopped like we had been shot in the third quarter as Geelong dominated in the midfield. I wonder if it might be wise to give Robbo a midfield tagging role this time around to try and negate Selwood or Dangerfield.

I think it was more so that the two you identified - Selwood & Dangerfield - went ballistic, and overwhelmed our team, than we stopped. We didn't lift and match. We have to be fully switched on thru out, and possibly be ready to lock them down - as you wonder.

Basically they both, together, at the same time, did a 'Michael Voss'

That game was the perfect lesson we should be less likely to get ambushed

But worried about the general public tickets for this one. Might be a long shot, but if anyone has a member code they’re not planning on using I’d be happy to send some cash your way in exchange. PM me

Have to try something on their mids, because if the Geelong mids are doing well and that means Dangerfield goes forward for significant periods, Geelong Win.

Andrews to Hawkins
Gardiner to Danger
Ah Chee to Rohan
Starcevich to Ablett
Rich to Miers
Lester to Stanley or whoever else is down there

Neale, Lyons, Zorko and Berry need to be “on” from the word go. Best way to stop the Geelong midfield is to get the ball in our hands first.

Entry into forward 50 is important too. Can’t just bomb it in.

Yeah good luck with that. You'll be hard pressed finding someone whose forked out their $ helping out someone whose only hope otherwise is a general public ticket, sorry. #Signup

For the sake of selection to cope with the opposition strengths ....what do you think of bringing in Payne to match it with Hawkins this week and then Lynch or Dixon in the big dance the following week leaving Harris to deal with someone else less strategic to allow intercepting? A different type of pain for an unlucky current best 22 tho. Lester admitted this week he wont get Rohan as he was to quick for him last game. Not sure who should go or if this is feasible but selectors know best.

For me:

Rich - Ablett
Ah Chee - Myers
Starce - Danger
Gardiner - Rohan
Lester - Stanley..?
Andrews - Hawkins.

Port did play McKenzie on Hawkins with good effect last week as it allowed their intercepting backs to float in front of him. So wouldn't be surprised to see Lester start on Hawkins next week.

Assuming we go in unchanged you are correct in the Lions team will only have that one change from round 6.
Steph was all but a passenger that day and should not have played the following week on form.
He did play again in round 7 and was worse than round 6. His next game was round 18 after club advised he had a back problem.
i would not be to concerned about that game and we are playing better now.

What i have liked about us this year is the coaches come up with a plan to beat our opponents and the players enact that plan.
I believe this is why we had some close games against weaker opponents. They stuck to the team plan.
i hope the plan works this week. Can't wait to get tickets for this one.

Last night Geelong would have had a plan to beat the Pies.
I am certain the Cats players at a certain stage abandoned that plan and just went in for the kill

Harris has been in trouble with Hawkins the last few times he has had to play on him. He has win this contest. Darcy was also out marked continually earlier this year when we played Geelong.

Key backs have to stand up

You need to watch the Geelong v Richmond game to see the blueprint, they were really crowding up the Geelong forward half allowing no space for Hawkins, Grimes was constantly peeling off to intercept, mind you Cats were coming off thumping Essendon and Tigers completely shut them down so my jury is still out on them.

I think if Payne had of been given a few games earlier in the season I would say yes to the above, but now feel Starc will take Rohan and Harris will just have to be the 1 v 1 defender against Hawkins. Being All Australian would hope he at least evens the contest. Gardner will have his hands full with Dangerfield.
