Given this is such a huge upcoming game, selection will be fascinating. Loving the meat tray all year thought it deserved its own thread this time around.

Possibly in the gun - Cowan, Kolodjashnij, Bartel, Ruggles.

And in the frame - Hendo, Bews, Cockatoo, Smedts, Kersten, GHS.

For me Hendo naturally comes in and, although a fan I think Kolo is slightly off and will be an unlucky out.

The other is Ruggles, as good as he's been he was found out last night. Feel his role will be shared amongst Guthrie, Bartel, Cowan and SSelwood at various stages. Also unlucky but...feel we need some x-factor and Cockatoo forward is it for mine. Can take a mark and apply extreme pressure to opposition defences which is crucial to how we set-up.

Obviously who we meet may become a factor, think Bews v. Crows, but for mine it's

In - Henderson, Cockatoo

Out - Kolodjashnij, Ruggles

Thoughts?

After watching Scott's presser, I'm not sure about hendo. Kinda looked away and uncomfortable when asked about him at the end.

cowan has no chance of being dropped, he isnt even fringe anymore

but i agree with those changes

kolo and ruggles were putrid

bartel was also very slow, i dont know what they should do with him

cocky's forward pressure, aggression and x-factor is needed and he would have been better than bartel

if bews was in better form id say they'd bring him in and drop bartel but we know this wont happen, smedts would be too much of a risk

Wash your mouth out! Cowan isn't in the gun he is a gun. He body lines the footy every time, gets to a heap of contests, uses it really well, applies great defensive pressure and is one of the safest ball users on the team. Incredibly, massively underrated on here.

And Bartel's slowed down but he was pretty good last night. He played a defensive role on Gibson really well and stood up with some big plays. He's not in our bottom 6 let alone in the gun.

For the meat tray - Henderson for Ruggles

Cant see Bartel getting dropped. Horses for course though. If we play Giant in prelim, drop Ruggles, if Adelaide drop Kolo, if North, give Dangerwood a rest before the GF and give some new kids a bit of a taste.

Agree on Cowan. Love him. Just that his name has been mentioned here a fair bit over the last month. Those voices are becoming a lot more hushed now..

Would depend on who we play.
if it is Giants or Crows Bews will come into the side to cover Greene or Betts.
Henderson will come in for Kolo. Need his clean marking against any of the 4 other sides plus he releases Harry to be the third man

Henderson for Kolo in my eyes. Ruggles butchered some chances last night but his desperation was pretty good. I love cockatoo but I think bringing him in for a massive preliminary final could be a mistake.

thoughts on ruggles missing the PF for the shot on rioli? very little in it, but people have been given a week for less this year. perhaps just a fine, or maybe it will just be considered 'in context' with the rest of the night.

ruggles was terrible last night, but he has been very good for the majority of the year. first final, against some very dangerous small forwards... when he is at his best, he is very valuable. id persist, but let him know where he went wrong last night.

very tough decisions coming up, i wont take a guess, but i will say im glad its not my decision.

if he goes, Jordan Lewis does too.

Via Jon Ralph on Fox Footy just now:

- Steve Hocking confirmed this morning that Hendo is 100% certainty to play, more likely forward
- Hendo, Cockatoo and Kersten trained this morning and are the only three under consideration
- We will have solid sessions on Thursday and next Saturday and ramp it up in the week leading up to the prelim

:D:thumbsu:

Agree with you re: Bartel. He is still an important player to the side, even if it is a few touches.

Not mentioned. Could have been Ralph taking poetic license but he showed footage of Hendo, Kersten and Cockatoo on the track this morning and said 'if they have any changes for the prelim they'll come from those three' before going on to say Hendo was extremely close last night.

The session this morning could have been a fitness one as they all were under a cloud to some extent.

Really want Cocky in the side but don't want him to touch the ball haha :P His pressure is elite & he tackles hard, alongside McCarthy our pressure I50 would rise a lot. But Cocky doesn't use the ball well at all, so if he were to come in I want him inside 50 at all times.
