Roast Preliminary Final Umpiring Thread

we still would have lost. Ben Browns in ability to hold a mark was the main reason we lost. FACT. He is a VFL player. at best.

Idiotic comment. North had enough chances to build the lead and/or even stay closer but to squarely call out Brown is very naive. Is it Browns fault when his teammates miss a shot on goal as well? Is it Browns fault when the umpires are second guessing and not doing their job properly?

Meh it wasn't that bad, so we got a couple of decisions that were kinda there but soft... But geez get perspective, the hold to Darling was paid with Lecras in the clear about to kick it from only a few metres further out, and then there's the obvious jumper drag down not paid to Kennedy in the goal square... Umpiring decisions clearly evened out, it's just that one team lost and needs excuses, the other wins and gets over it, and neutrals get led with the media hyperbole, same as every week.

Congrats on a great season. You'll be hitting the finals from higher than 8th next year for sure.

The free against Waite for blocking when he took the mark.

I wasn't gonna comment in thsi thread again but people keep pointing out bad decisions I'd forgotten about.

I'm over it now so i'm starting to laugh.

Ha ****en ha.

LeCras was not in the clear, he was tackled and should've got pinged for holding the ball. Kennedy didn't get the goal square free because he staged for the previous one, the umpire is never going to give him that the next time.
It's not the reason we lost but it shifted momentum to West Coast in that 2nd/3rd quarter. I'd be curious what the free kick count was.

Genuinely sorry for you guys, you looked the better team to me. We were robbed as well in the 2011 PF, also 2001 PF, not as blatantly and we probably would have been smashed in the GF anyway by the Cats and the Lions, but I know how it feels. You just don't give a stuff about the grannie after that. No reason you won't have a great season next year though.

whatever, hawks supporters whinge about the umpiring even when they win

It was 18-9 at one stage and the damage was done. They got it to 22-17 in the end with some cheap frees in out backline and on centre wing

Kennedy didn't stage for the first. You just sheep-follow what the umpire incorrectly claimed ... Replay clearly showed he was held back from running on and soccering it through, so cheers for reminding me that should've been another goal to us.

In the end, my feeling is we tired, and just weren't quite good enough. The better team probably won. But only probably. There is no way to measure the effect on things like confidence and morale and energy when, after busting your arse, putting your body on the line, and getting hit and hurt, you have the incredibly hard-earned momentum of the biggest game of your life completely reversed unfairly.

Mentally, it has an effect, and probably physically, too. It only takes a drop-off of a few percent to change a game at this level, and we'll never know whether our drop-off was organic or orchestrated.

No game of professional sport should leave you wondering like that, much less a high-stakes final. Disgrace.

If an eagles fan ever complains about umpiring again I will HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA lol in their face. Royal treatment year in year out how is it possible that they always get the better of the umps at home and ALWAYS win the free kick count? Questions need to be asked.
Home ground advantage should not mean umpires advantage. I can't believe I will be going for hawthorn next week..
Its a ****ing disgrace!!!

No one can say its the normal rub of the green that teams get when they are a top side.

I remember when we were dominating in the 90's, we would often get a lot a 50/50s.

Even when the eagles were a shit side, they still get the rub of the green at home.

Tonight was dead set ****ing cheating!

Something needs to be done.

If Petrie or Brown got the protection that Kennedy gets..well I'd be happy.
So **** off with Kennendy possibly being robbed of 1free kick!

How about you **** off to your own board? I saw about 35,000 sheep following what the umpires claimed tonight and loving it.

It's not uncommon knowledge in WA. Margetts is WA born and bred, so not hugely unusual for him/his family to barrack for a WA team.

Shouldn't have been umpiring tonight.
Even if there is the perception of bias he should not have been umpiring this game. However his inability to be imparial now has an explanation. Totally inexcusable by the AFL for putting him in this position.

While the umpiring was a disgrace, have a ponder over the below.

We were beat in every quarter except the first in disposals, tackles, inside 50's and goal success percentage from inside 50's.

We were even beat on marks and 1 percenter's. 67 to 35 which s huge when it comes to 1 pecenters.

We had 10 more clearances around the ground and almost double the centre clearances than the Eagles but we couldn't convert that into any meaningful inside 50s.

Goldy did not dominate as he usually does (44 vs 49 tap outs) but surprisingly, our mids still won the clearance battle against a very good Eagles midfield

They were simply the better side on the night.
