I was at the club today and they said MM was really happy with the win and players are very happy to get a week off because they were battered and bruised from the Weagles tackling and pressure. That was partly the explanation for the last quarter. On a positive note, they are hoping WC batter and bruise Geelong in similar style in the prelim. It was all very upbeat.

Please merge this with a more appropriate thread but I just wanted to say that despite much negativity around Collingwood this final series, some things have really gone our way this weekend.

Geelong will now have a more difficult Preliminary Final.

a) Vs West Coast....WC have adopted a similar press like us...you may think it will help Geelong adapt to the press better for our game BUT in a crunch game it will enable our coaching staff to see the raw tactics Geelong will be using to combat the press...nothing can be held back in the prelim. We will also see how Geelong handle the big forwards.

b) Carlscum will run Geelong off their legs at least for the first half and have troubled Geelong in recent games

Our preliminary final will be more of a slog against the Swans who will have been "up" for six weeks by this time and will find the MCG harder. Against the Hawks, well their injury concerns are worse than ours and they have no reprieve. Either team could be broken by an early start by us.

It now means, with the boys pumped up from the recent Cats game...knowing that finals victories will not come as easily after fighting for the WC game...we will be well placed to know all we need to do to defeat the Cats.

Any edge in the finals is an advantage and this weekend helped us a lot.

I like you thinking. But you are also betting on the cat's to make it.......which they should.

Not sure if mentioned but if WCE win, it's been confirmed it's a Saturday afternoon Prelim.

Think that actually helps WCE in that particular match (think they are better in the day games than at night generally) - and personally I think it's a better tuneup for either of those teams for the GF than playing the Friday night.

Same ground, same time, that sort of thing.

Mind you, half a day's additional break if we win next Friday - I ain't knocking that back, particularly if David Buttifant can work some more recovery magic.

I was talking in expectation terms...I for one am not sold on the Cats hype and do rate WC a chance to beat them...I was looking today at GF quinella odds for Coll/WC...your right Cats should win but....

Don't think a warm sunny day will help Geelong either and if Pies and Cats make it through to the GF the weather will be sunny and 24 like the replay last year which won't suit some of the older Cats and will be very suited to Collingwood's younger list.
