Xavs to smash STBM and then a 50/50 GF with Wesley. Plugger Lynch again brilliant on Sunday. This man loves September and loves controlling the pace, tempo at Elsternwick.

Looking very familiar. Doubt OX will smash STBM but do enough to win.....definatley took the foot off the pedal on Sunday. Coll will be having nightmares even though they are in the Big One already. Only have to win a final by a point...

Don't go quiet lads, this is the business end of the season.....

Looking forward to another beautiful day at EP on Sunday for the Prelim Final..should be a terrific contest ..Xavs knocked out the Students and Gollum who has now got to find somewhere else to sharpen his selection pencil..gee the mood around the Varsity changerooms after training will be a whole lot different next season won't it..
Brindisians you would think will come out snarling after last Saturday's loss to the Crumbles who may have set themselves up to win the Cup in 2011. Good reading the web pages of the Premier Section participants after last weekend. Well done to Collegians on the words written about SBMT's Shakaib who it seems was badly injured in the last term just when things were getting interesting. It's a cruel game when a injury can strike you down just when you think it may be heading in the right direction. Could his injury be the spur the Bogans need to climb the Claret and Stout mountain. Not sure they will but what I saw of them a few years ago they are a proud unit who stick fat when it matters.
Can anyone tell me when I might get a call from Gerald Fitzmichael to tell me my ticket in the Irish Bogus raffle was indeed one of only 18 to be sold and I'm getting a refund??
Does anyone know if Rah Rah has gone Gah Gah at the prospect of travelling to Werribee next year??
Finally does anyone know if the kids train has been booked to work again on Grand Final weekend at EP...it is after all the best way to move from end to end each quarter to stay at the most wind dominated this side of NZ.

OSOM

Really not looking forward to going back out to the shit pit next year.

It's been a refreshing couple of years without having to listen to those pathetic supporters on the hill.

Thanks SKOBS for stuffing up for everyone in A grade

If the Violet Crumbles bring their "A" game reckon they'll get the choccies. That said, they've put in some ordinary performances in recent weeks, one of which was against St Bedes which will give the Brindisi Street crowd plenty of confidence. Let's hope the wind doesn't stuff up a good tight game.

I'm going for St Bedes Mentone Tigers to win the grand final. However, the most crucial moment of the whole game for me will be the coin toss to decide ends. If St Bedes win the toss, will the Tigers do what they did in 2008 and kick against the wind, in the hope that when Collegians have the breeze, St Bedes would hold them scoreless like what they did 3 years before? You would think that the Lions would not want to fall for it a second time around. And as far as Collegians is concerned it will be a case of 'unfinished business', having lost last year's grand final to Old Xavs.

Jascave...gee its been a while there fella since you graced the A Section page but a few taps of the keyboard and you are back in amongst it for the big one!!

Watched the Prelim final on Sunday at EP and if SBMT bring the same back again this week it won't be the same game as the 2nd Semi appeared to be from the results..their mid field won the day and pressure all over the park was too much for Xavs..despite the cool conditions it was terrfic finals footy to watch.

Warmer day forecast for the GF with a northerly which sounds a little like the 08 GF..Collegians to bring back Sauntner and one possibly two more from the 2nd semi which will hurt three contributors who did plenty to get them there and will feel robbed of a chance..could that be unsettling??

Did see plenty of luminaries there last Sunday...Bigfooty's own BS and Brad Beitzel in the tan overcoat...and was that the media mogul Gerald Fitzmichael in a long grey trenchcoat amongst the SBMT three quarter time huddle...gee he knows how to jump ship early.

OSOM.

Are you sure OSOM? Thought he was done and dusted for the year.

Saunter plays then Collegians must start favourite, along with Croft major marking power for the Purples which Bedes will find difficult to stop should the air conveyance travel swiftly and sweetly.
Saunter will not be the failure that FW was in 2008, should he play then Bull and Taft become major keys for the Purples.
Zimbachs down back is perfect, good decision maker, run, carry and hits targets, Tyrell must match him, doubt he can, Tyrell a lurker still capable of hurting if he gets off the leash.
Phibbs v Scott, classic cracker, the better performer here on the day will go a long way to helping his side hold the Cup, both terrific players, hopefully they both play well. If Scotty has space his kicks over 50 will hit forwards on the Bristols
Collins is a gun, often thinks too quickly for his teammates and opportunities go begging, BOG for mine.
Bedes must man up Jorgensen, he can’t be left to play a kick behind play, and anyone can play on him cos he ain’t that good.
Ries, Strachan, Blumfield V Tyquin, Anstey, Hellier, St Bedes have the points here on paper, simply too physical. Ries like Scotty is a cracker when it comes to use with foot skills.
Liston is a match winner, he must have a big say in scoring assists, Purples need the right man for the match up, good luck.
P’ships are often won in the clinches, if this theory is proven to be right again then St Bedes simply just win. If game is opened up then the Purples will be hard to hold out.
Best two teams for the year have advanced, congratulations.
I will be sitting in the roof of the Trott pavilion listening carefully, news will travel fast to Mentone when Saunters name is read out.

Good luck and congrats to both Collegians and SBMT this coming weekend. Should be a cracker of a game. Saunter coming in will be massive but I would back Rat Wintle any day of the week, not many better defenders going around.

SBMT had an off day in the second semi and I am not tipping they will have another, winners by 4-5 goals after winning the toss and kicking into a breeze.

Again congrats to both clubs, lets hope there is some atmosphere at the poo heap The Wick is.

With news that SBMT captain, and best on baller are both in doubt with injuries, it should be a Comfortable Collegians win by 10+ goals. $1.45 looks too good to be true @ Betstar

Careful Perty..a fool and his money can part easy!

Grand Finals are won by either quality sides but more often by quality clubs...selection can play a big part especially how team/players react when players with reputations return from injury and then don't come to the dance!

Injury can and does inspire teams too and SBMT without Hiwad played very well last week..sometimes the player coming in finds a new level and boy can that flow on thru a team.

Reckon it will be a terrific GF..scoring shots in the 2nd Semi perhaps give a fair indication that the teams are pretty even and if one side can get a hold on the game early it just might be the difference.

Great match ups right across the oval in the key positions and on ball..don't think for a minute Jorgensen will get a free run in the CHB hole like he did in the first final..interesting reading the Age Newspaper summary post GF last year and manning him up was the only real tactic Xavs employed on the day.

There could be some niggling too with a few suggestions around last week that the violet crumbles may have been trash talking to a few Brindisians during the 2nd Semi.

If Sauntner plays SBMT will run off him every time they gain possession..Handley got the treatment last week so if the hammy is dodgy EP will surely test it big time...and if SBMT have a player with a niggle or two will they risk it or bring in fresh legs??

Can't wait to hear Shollsters powerful and inspiring voice on the microphone presenting medals and the Cup to the winners..one to savour each year!!

Congratulations to Collegians today. The Lions' strong second qtr performance set up the victory despte St Bedes Mentone Tigers making a spirited comeback in the 3rd qtr. However, that was as far as the Tigers would go, with Collegians drawing away to a well-deserved win.

I reckon the VAFA Premier Grand Final day is (irrespective of who is playing) one of the best football days of the year. The atmosphere is great and the VAFA seems to run the Premier Grand Final Day far better than in comparision to other comps such as the SFL and the EFL.

Congratulations to Collegians. Clearly the best performed team over the last 3/4 years and a well deserved premiership. Many teams in their position would have crumbled considering their finals history but the violet crumbles (pun intended) rose to the challenge. Inglis, Fergeson, Bull and Taft were outstanding.

Having attending both the top efl and vafa grand finals you can't be serious. 10,000 cram into bayswater to watch noble park v scoresby. Whilst a a mere 2000 went to the wick. I'm a ammos man but there the efl grand final day is clearly better.

Fergurson was outstanding! would have to be a chance to be picked up? classy small forward!

you can not be serious about the VAFA having the best GF Day when the finals are played on that dung heap that they call Elsternwick Park :thumbsd:
