You must be kidding yourselves! To suggest NO players are getting $$ is just laughable. I was involved a few years back at 1 B-grade side & I know for a fact a few were on some good $$ , & to be honest we (players) were thrilled to have them on the park with us. You want to be successful in the higher grades you HAVE to pay. Don't for a minute think these ex-AFL footballers play for free. The NFL & EDFL &EFL offer these blokes a fortune , you really don't think they knock back $700+ a game to play for fun. Cmon get serious.

What a load of crap....can't actually believe I am replying to it, but it is the offseason and boredom has set in.
Name the club.....and the players that you were happy to play with who were getting big coin.

Can we just cut and paste the off-season thread from last year, or the year before, or the year before and just use that instead of posting the same stuff on paying players. It gets tiring.

I can't comment on lower sections, but in A grade and most B Grade clubs the "old boy" networks are good enough, deep enough and strong enough to provide potential new players with rewarding career paths. This is much more of an incentive than a few $$ a game with nothing set up for the future. This is why ex-AFL and some big name local league players can come and play amateur footy, and why the VAFA is so successful in maintaining a competition laden with talent, without the additional burden on clubs of finding funds to keep a playing list together..

Agreed!!!!
Name just one player and it may have 1% of cred.
Ammos players are not paid. Put up or shut up.

Firstly, disappointed that I will have less time to read this stuff now that I have left the dees for the cattery down in Geelong. Secondly, if you were involved with a club which openly paid players, I hope you felt a warm feeling inside while you cheated each week. I think you will find the risk versus reward of paying induviduals in any grade is too high. As we have found in the years gone by, recruiting high profile players to carry a team simply doesn't work. Most come and go very quickly. Forming a nucleus of mates to play for each other will take any side alot further. If there are some high quality or ex-afl players among the bunch, then great. It is certainly not the be all and end all. Pretty standard post for this time of year from people who see the top grade as too hard to get too, so throwing mud is a much easier option. No doubt when Cam Bruce lumps down at the aquarium next year to play with his mate, we will see another one of these posts accusing them of paying players. Good on them for attracting a talented footballer if it comes off.

So Carey confirmed what we all expected in regards to the new coaching appointment. Any more senior coaching pieces to fall into place?

Well whoever it is had better win something after they lost the seniors, seconds and under 19's flag ( oh and they haven't won the APS for 10 years !).

Poor old growler..the only Xavs coach not to win for over 20 years!

They may not have won flags this year but 4 or maybe 5 ex students got AFL Premiership medallions hanging around their necks and another one has a Brownlow!!!!!

And players do play for nothing in the Ammos, sometimes the connections are more valuable long term than the folding stuff in the pocket.

Some early whispers to get the ball rolling.

If delisted by St Kilda Jason Blake will play for Beaumaris

A few St Bedes lads being courted to join Sam Anstey who is coaching an under achieving neighbouring SFL club.

The new Carey coaching team lured on the promise of even more big names getting on board for 2013. However the brothers Yze are no certainties to be amongst a start studded 2013 Panthers line up.

De La going to have to cover the retirements of a few top liners.

A couple of Uni Blues big names lured on the promise of employment to walk as said jobs did not eventuate. One big name looks certain to go back to the EFL.
Early bragging rights to Jimmy who correctly called a number of these a month ago. Not sure how "exhaustive" the Carey search was as the mail suggests these appointments, while only publicly announced last week, were pretty much stitched up after rd 17. Mail on the De la retirements also spot on with Aaron Shields and Jarrod Moloney already announcing their retirements with maybe 1 or 2 more to follow. Like all ammo clubs a few travellers may be missing next year including a few big names. Also some of the best young talent being heavily courted several VFL clubs. Depth to be tested but with ressies and 19s both Premiers we should be able to cover most absences. Some great young talent at "the bell". So what's the news from other 'A' grade clubs?

As said earlier, De La look like they are losing Moloney and Shields to retirement but what about the best in their ranks, Eddy?
Rumour has it that he will be gone also. Any confirms, denials or dont knows at this stage?

Brett is a VFL listed player who has played just a handful of VAFA games over the last 2 seasons. De La fortunate to get a few games from Brett late in the 2012 season as he recovered from a knee reco but it is fully accepted he will be back at C'wood next year and rightly so.

So i notice that Xavs are going with the co-coaches model as well, with Nick Bourke and Dom Berry as co-coaches for next season.

Have had a little bit to do with both over the last decade, and i must say Xavs have done well here. Both know their stuff and will bring a lot to the club. Quality!

Have heard from a good source that Old Carey are set to announce a couple of big signings from Div 1 Efl Team.

The new coaching team promised some big signings so cant wait to see who they are.
