Brilliant come from behind win by the Panthers today. Very ordinary for 3 quarters and 30 points down at 3/4 time then Trinity kicked the first goal in the last. Panthers 36 points down and won by 8. Adem Yze with 5 in the last, 2 were absolute freak goals. Every player lifted in what was one of the best last quarters seen at Bulleen.
As said before with 6 of last 9 at home the Panthers can do some damage.
Next week is a must win against Old Scotch otherwise the 4 could be set at the half way mark.
Bit rough arent you Max? What makes him a ring in? Did you consider James McDonald a ring in at Xavs last year? I think you should take a deep breath, deck Hayden Heta out in a school blazer and tie retrospectively, and work out how Old Ivanhoe are going to avoid relegation; maybe with Big Owen who is of course a good Ivanhoe grammarian? How can you talk "top four", when you rely on a ring in to get you over the line.
Who have you got lined up next week to beat Scotch, another "old boy", Brendan Fevola?

Every club would love to have him, there is no doubt about that. Certainly Carey have been able to bring in some talent of recent years, and good on the Panthers for doing so. Ever the cynic; you have to ask what he is getting in return... You don't rock down to an Ammo club in your mid 30s for naught. Ill get back in my B section box now. Hopefully see you all next season and maybe a little Yze magic.Comparing Heta, Weatherly and McDonald to Adam Yze is absurd. McDonald went to St Pats but played U19s at OX as did other family members. He retained strong links to he club and later returned as an asst. coach and then player. Believe he also had some involvement at the school. Heta & Weatherly played at OI for several years and were in their 20s when they arrived. They also committed to playing every week.
The Yze situation is totally different. Whether he plays or not is entirely a matter for Carey but you can understand the strong views against it Might be different he if had some links or history with the place, was 10 years younger, played every week or was likely to play on next year. He is still a star at this level but not sure the argument about young blokes learning from him has much merit. Could be argued that they are also learning that development and loyalty are cast aside whenever a big name makes himself available.
I recognise that my opinion probably means very little but as this is a forum and opinions are welcomed my own view is that this sort of thing does nothing for the fabric of a club and is actually an impediment to building a strong club culture. But at the end of the day it is entirely up to Carey, as ultimately they will either have to wear the fallout or reap the rewards. Chalk up yesterday as a reward.

Well said and well said. My point, though maybe a little cynical sorry Max and i hope you avoid relegation as i have always had a soft spot for the poo browns, was that all sides have recruits from outside their schools. Yze may have just arrived, but who is to say he will not play 2 or three seasons before retiring. Maybe he will play only one season. It is very harsh to brand anyone a ring-in however. Yes Weatherly was great for OI, but i am sure when he started he was simply an outside recruit who had played a fair bit of professional football elsewhere;ditto McDonald, ditto Heta, ditto Yze. Now i feel a bit like i have come from a Ghost rerun, but that is my point.Well said. Hats off to Carey. Great for them that a first gamer can come in and prosper. Carey and Adam seem to be kicking goals here. Whether you are an ex student or a recruit who didn't attend, you should not be judged as a ring in or not a ring in. Strong clubs develop a strong environment for this to occur.
Need to be a bit realistic . Carey are not a traditional football school unlike other A and even B grade sides. They do not have the benefit of a strong school football program. They currently do not have a side in the APS year 10 competition due to lack of numbers. Therefore they need to supplement their school program and likewise their old boys need similar supplementation. Nothing wrong with this . Good luck for the rest of the season.
Why the need for large bold font in your posts, Rooster 24?![]()
Interesting few posts re school ties. Whether you went to a school or didnt, gives you no less cred at being at that club. Dozens of players run around every week for every school associated Ammos team throughout their seniors to unders teams. If any school, and this includes all APS and AGS sides, had only school tie players, they would rarely be in the top grades of the ammos. Simple as that. Set your net wide and far and you will prosper. Good recruiting is required internally and from outside the hallowed turf of ones school.
I dont think the argument is so much against players not from the 'old school', rather those gun players that just drop in and out of a club for a season like mercenaries (in some cases, just playing the handful of games as well). These are the type of player that is generally frowned upon, and usually leaves "experts?" like ourselves asking questions about the club in question (whichever club that may be) in terms of culture and list management.
If the Yze brothers stick around for a few years (which will probably take them to the end of their careers), then no doubt they will be much more highly regarded than if we don't see them in the comp after this season.
