Agreed. I've seen more tragic/debacle/disgraceful finals matches at EP than I've had hot breakfasts. Would love to see our showpiece game at Optus or somewhere else with a beautiful surface and some wind protection/non bayside. Amateurs indeed!!

Down to the nitty gritty:

SBMT v Scotchies
Blues v Bernies
DLS v Caulfield
Old Trinty v Collegians
Old Carey v Xavs (wishful thinking!) :)

I agree with the previous two comments re: the Premiers. Tragicaly it could all go down to the conditions of the day.
Knowing Elsternwick Park it could be gale force winds off the bay, accompanied by rain and hail to make an absolute debacle of what should be a "show case" game. Why the member clubs of VAFA continue to put up with this sub standard playing surface and environment is beyound me. Why another arena/ground cant be secured for the final series is just a joke. The answer is simple of course, the Amateur competition is run by amateurs. Its just a disgrace.

If the weather is good i think that EP is a perfect ground for finals, great size and proportions. However, i do agree that if the weather is bad they might as well play the game on Elsternwick's ground out the back. I think for the past few years the weather on GF day has made for a pretty good spectacle.

I will admit last year the Final series was OK, weather wise. Invariably the facilities for the players, re: changing etc. are compromised. (raw sewage one year). No one has put up a plausable explanation as to why they cannot move them, except to say "they ran out of time to organise" Well realy, I thought they would have had 12 months to settle someyhing. What would be better than the Junction Oval / Optus to exhibit our game. Ample seating (pretty much none at Elstern) superb surface, protection from the wind sanf parking.
This would probably be the furtherest thing from the VAFA officials minds as they wing their way to Ireland for their annual rort / junket/pissup.

Weather prediction for Sunday, cold and wet and windy. Never been anything else on my many trips over the years down there. How do people live in Elsternwick?????

SBMT v OS Go Tiges
Blues v Bernies Young side just need to concentrate on the footy when not going their way.
De La v Caulfield Could be ugly
OT v Collegians Again could be ugly
OC v Xavs Panthers, Panthers, Panthers, on a roll and getting better.

The idea mentioned of finals at Princes Park, Optus, MC Labour are an excellant idea but can't see
Ammos renting a ground when they have their own but a good idea for many reasons. Much better for spectators and players alike.

SBMT v Scotchies
Blues v Bernies
DLS v Caulfield
Old Trinty v Collegians
Old Carey v Xavs

Scotch because they need to win
Bernards in a game that means nothing
De La by triple figures for the second week in a row
Collegians; Trinity Hopeless
Carey in a game that will setup their season

SBMT v Scotchies
Blues v Bernies - fancy the Bernies here, but will stick with Uni at home.
DLS v Caulfield
Old Trinty v Collegians
Old Carey v Xavs
I concur with U Mick, except maybe Carey/ Xavs? The second Yze will be avail (Hawthorn play tonight).
The ground will be wet and boggy, at Carey Bulleen (ex tip site) and the ball will be nice and heavy. Could develop into a real slog!

Just watched last weeks vafa tv. Is brett eddy any relation to robert eddy of st kilda?

Scotch
Bernies
DLS
Collegians
Xavs
(gee my tipping has been conservative)

Xavs v Old Carey game is at Sportscover. Bulleen is in superb condition. With Trinity probabbly the best grounds in Premier. Considering the amount of rain it is a credit to the ground staff.

Scotch disappoint again. From flying at 5-2 to now being 7-6 and slipping out of finals calculations. Hats of for their ability to keep away from relegation, but with depth of numbers they really should be pushing for a flag some time soon. Also, why change the jumper from red to maroon?

Ill have those. Are we actually wasting our time here lads? Haven't seen any type of ladder for around 6 weeks.

I think so BS, I think OTP has picked up his flags and gone home, not happy:(

We may have left him in the previous stratosphere of BF.:D

On my calculations Im leading both A & B grade tipping threads:p

Cheers

Xavs 3.11.29 def Carey 2.7.19
Must have been a bog as that scoreboard hardly reads 'free flowing game'

Absolute slog in the mud. Carey wore their white jumpers but by the end of the game difficult to tell them apart from OX jumpers. No indication for either club, OX took advantage of OC errors and they scored. Could have been very interesting if D. Yze has kicked a goal from 10 metres out which would have put OC 5 points behind with 6-7 minutes to play. No idea who OX had missing but OC missing Rowe, Murrie and Smithwick from last weeks team. Gave them a chance to blood another young player which brings total for the year to 48-49 players in the Seniors.
Both teams will be sore next week after todays slog.
Might be an idea for Ammos to "limit" the number of games on the ground if possible. More rain and lots of games between now and finals time there will not be a blade of grass on the ground.

Rowe and Smithwick massive outs! Long term?

And, in the longer term, Bayside Council spend some money and replace the existing surface with the drought proof turf Glen Eira are re-surfacing all their grounds with.

Went to the Xavs/Carey game and support neither. Handley nearly took Yze's head off in the first 3 mins. Yze off concussed, no report!!! OC probably should have won it. Yze brother missed one goal in 3rd heading to scoreboard, 2 sitters for goals in last that missed and a set kick that should have at least scored. When are the Umpires going to penalise Xavs for taking on the tackler, grab the ball, try and break free, go to ground....ball up. Its been happening for years.
