Xavs look verrrrryyy sharp early, destroyed the three teams in front of them. Obviously the competition will be De la, st bedes and st bernards ( who they have this week), but going on other results (de la beat bernards, scotch beat de la, xavs beat scotch by 80 points etc...) Xavs look the early favourites. Thoughts?

Xavs have been that good this year! Bernards are a threat to them though! Will be an interesting finals series! Xavs mids playing really well. Healey up forward on 49 goals going into the last round! Good player. If they dont win it this year it has been a serious let down of a year!

Old Xavs into the Grand Final again! Great game of football at Central Reserve, Bedes were very good, very stiff not to win, Killed the xavs in the clearances all day and had more of the footy but didn't capitalise when it counted. The Big names for the xavs stood up in the last, Healey, Batten, Skene were important in the last. Lachal was prolific down forward, kicking 2 insane goals and sparking the boys in the last. Ongarello kicked the sealer and gave the Xavs a week off. Bedes Bernards next week will be a belter...Bernards are dangerous but i reckon Bedes will be keen to make up for this loss and win by under 15 points...Xavs Bedes granny will be a corker!

Rooster... thoughts? De La excuses?

Absolutely no excuses MUF. Quite simply 4 sides clearly better than us this year. Perhaps the only thing you might say is that plenty of our U19s played seniors all year but this was the same for St Bedes and St Bernards. Hopefully we can be back in the mix next season.

Great effort by Xavs to make their 5th GF in a row. They would be hoping to add to just the 1 flag achieved in that period.

SKOB had 7 in the seniors all year too, Kanakis would have won the comp medal by a mile looking at the votes.

Don’t doubt that Brian. Just that I know a lot more about the other clubs as we play against their seniors as well.

If you wanted an absolute certainty for the 19s B & F it would have been Jake Williams who is massive chance for the Woodrow next week. If her played unders he would have polled 50 votes!

SBMT were too good on the day.
Brett Denton - played 4 senior games this year, before returning to the unders. He made a mid year move with 5 best on performances in a row. If he was to play the first 4 games in 19s would have won it easy! Was rested the last 4 of the 5 rounds with a niggling shoulder injury. The bloke can seriously play dont take anything away from him
With the league best and fairest.

For those that didn’t notice, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers beat Old Xaverians to win the U/19 Premier GF yesterday. For those that missed it, this is how I saw it.

1st Qtr: The game was an intense arm wrestle early with neither team able to take advantage of opportunities. Bedes tackled anything that moved, always a good sign that a team is ‘on’. Xavs by 5 pts a fair reflection of play with Barry outstanding for Xav’s and D’Andrea tough and creative for Bedes.
2nd Qtr: O’Toole, Cross and Denton took control in the middle. The comp’s best onball combo smashed Xav’s inside and out, getting first hands and spreading with purpose. Bedes got their running game going with O’Kearney, Hard and Bower providing great defensive rebound. Beckwith and Moloney’s creative class became important whilst Hoy loomed large against a nervous Xav’s defence. The ½ time margin would have been greater but for Barry’s continued excellence and admirable, desperate Xav’s defence whilst increasingly inept umpiring continued to have an influence. Bedes by 31pts at half time.
3rd Qtr: Too good a team to lie down, Xav’s come out from the long break breathing fire and took back the momentum with six unanswered goals. Xav’s half time strategy of aggressive, targeted man-marking (tagging) paid immediate dividends around the stoppages as, propped up be more dubious umpiring, the silvertails played the game on their terms, taking control in their air. Bedes struggled to get any meaningful possession as Skene came into the game to give the favourites much needed leadership and purpose. Supporters found their voice as Xav’s players found their strut and attitude...this is the script as they thought it should be. Bedes were not done though as Nicoll’s dogged toughness, Dalzotto’s footy smarts, Whalebones chase and pressure and the continued dominance of Wighton and Capp over the much vaunted Xav’s key forwards brought back a balance to the contest. A late goal to Bedes was critical. Xav’s by 3 points at ¾ time...Game on!
4th Qtr: What a great qtr of football. It was tough, unforgiving and intense, both on and off the ground as coaches D’Andrea and Rush made move, counter-moves and more to find an advantage. The game was played with such passion that no ‘neutral’ spectator could be found at Trevor Barker Oval and the noise from beyond the boundary rose and fell with each play and decision. The atmosphere was electric as both teams gave their all to put on a show which will be long remembered by all. With the game on the line, the 48 stars on display stood up and gave all in pursuit of a flag. In an even qtr however, the move of McCready forward was a triumph for D’Andrea as his 2 goals, ball use and presence helped Bedes variety and potency in the fwd 50 whilst Xav’s inability to deal with emerging star Matt Hoy (3 last qtr goals...6 for the game) will haunt them. Final...St Bedes won by 6 points.

One other point...surely VAFA should acknowledge the importance of the premier junior footy comp in VIC (outside of TAC Cup) and appoint capable, unbiased umpires for the GF. The VAFA hierarchy and more specifically, umpires boss Goodman should hang their head in shame at the umpiring yesterday.

Well done to both teams on a wonderful contest which was one for the ages.
Finally, congrats to St Bedes on a great season, a fantastic finals campaign, a memorable GF and a well deserved premiership. Enjoy the celebrations.
